2 2 Jubilee Year of Mercy How long, O LORD? (Habakkuk 1:2). With Habakkuk s question echoing across twenty-six hundred years, Respect Life Sunday finds all life claiming sanctuary in our hearts: unborn infant, senior citizen, immigrant and refugee, imprisoned and addicted, people burdened with illness and disabilities of body, mind, or spirit. Even Mother Earth, Pope Francis notes in Laudato Si, bears scars of disrespect for the life she nurtures and sustains. Life is still threatened, as in Habakkuk s day, with ruin and misery, destruction and violence,... strife and clamorous discord (see 1:3). Since our efforts so often seem ineffective, we unprofitable servants cry with the apostles, Increase our faith (Luke 17:10, 5). But Jesus reply might be paraphrased, Not quantity quality. Next weekend marks the Jubilee Year of Mercy s special devotion to Mary, whose willingness to shelter Jesus in her womb and stand at the foot of his cross bears witness to the qualities that Jesus expects our faith to manifest: the willingness to trust, to risk, and to dare to speak up for life. -Fr. Esta pregunta de Habacuc se sigue escuchando aún después de dos mil seiscientos años; este Domingo de Respeto a la Vida exhorta a que la vida requiere de un santuario en nuestros corazones: del bebé que está por nacer, las personas de la tercera edad, los inmigrantes, los refugiados, las personas encarceladas, los adictos, las personas enfermas o con discapacidades del cuerpo, la mente o el espíritu. Aún la Madre Tierra, como lo menciona el Papa Francisco en Laudato Si, tiene marcadas las cicatrices de la falta de respeto por la vida que ella nutre y sustenta. La vida todavía está amenazada, así como lo menciona Habacuc hoy, con ruina y miseria (destrucción y violencia,... peleas y riñas (ver 1:3). Ya que muy frecuentemente nuestros esfuerzos parecen ineficaces, nosotros servidores improductivos gritamos con los apóstoles auméntanos la fe (Lucas 17:10, 5). Quizá interpretando la respuesta de Jesús No es la cantidad, sino la calidad. Masses are usually scheduled weeks in advance, so if there is a particular date on which you want the Mass Intention, please make the request well ahead of time. The suggested stipend for each Mass is $5.00.

Youth & Family Night at Devine s Corn Maze October 12, 6:00-8:00 PM Open to anyone in the parish who wishes to attend. Admission is $5 per person, which includes a pumpkin and all activities. The St. Peter Claver 2016 Gala An Evening of Elegance will be held at the Marriott Resort-Griffin Gate on November 12, Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The Gala features a Live & Silent Auction, Buffet Dinner, Complimentary Wine and Signature Drink Bar and Dancing to the Network Band. St. Peter Claver will recognize and celebrate our 2016 H.O.P.E Award recipient, Ginny Ramsey, Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Catholic Action Center. All proceeds from the event will be used for the construction of a new church and sanctuary. Tickets are $80 per person until September 30, and $85 October 1-October 31. 5 5 Respect Life Mass "A Celebration of Life Saint Paul Catholic Church 501 West Short Street, Lexington October 18 The Most Reverend John Stowe requests the honor of your presence at the Annual Diocese of Lexington Respect Life Mass. The Mass will be offered at 7:00 PM. Music by the Saint Peter Claver Choir. A light reception will follow the Mass. We look forward to seeing you at this joyful occasion coordinated by the Diocesan Respect Life Office. Please invite your family and friends as we join together in our greatest defense of life Celebrating the Eucharist. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. ALL SOULS DAY MEMORIAL CANDLES It is that time again to order Candles to remember our beloved dead. The cost is $10.00 per globe with insert. The DEADLINE for ordering is October 9. Sign ups are in the Foyer. Please indicate your name and the In Memory Of name. Last year s globes may be reused. Inserts for these will be made available when you bring the used globes to church by October 30. The candles will be used in the 4:30 PM Vigil Mass on October 31 and the 6:30 PM Mass on November 1. You may pick up your candle/s after Mass on November 5 or 6. Christmas Bazaar November 18 & 19 We are asking everyone in the parish to join together and contribute to a successful Christmas Bazaar. Please plan to craft an item, make some ornaments, and/or put together a theme basket. These can be made at home individually, as a family, or get together in small groups. Then bring in your donations. We need them soon! There will be forms in the foyer for you to sign up for baskets. We will be happy to offer theme ideas. Also, we will be available to assist you if you gather your items and need help putting the basket together. We are in need of handmade ornaments, wreaths, and donations for the silent auction. We will also be doing a children s table where items will be available for children to purchase gifts for their parents and siblings. Contributions for this table would be greatly appreciated. Year of Mercy Mass For Family Healing Our Lady of Mount Vernon Parish 55 Crawford Lane, Mount Vernon, KY October 8 As part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Mass will be celebrated by Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv., with specific petitions for the spiritual healing of families. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered from 10:30-11:45 AM, with Eucharistic exposition and adoration immediately following the Mass which starts at noon. All are invited to attend.
