THE DEACON S CORNER We have now had about two months of Nar-Anon meetings, and they continue on Mondays at 6:30 pm in the St. Albert the Great Chapel.

While we support NA and what they provide for addicts, Nar -Anon is about those who currently have an addict in their life and are suffering from the chaos and debilitating effects of living with

6 THE DEACON S CORNER We have now had about two months of Nar-Anon meetings, and they continue on Mondays at 6:30 pm in the St. Albert the Great Chapel. But there remains a misconception of what they are about. Many continue to mistakenly believe this is a NA meeting, addressing addicts and their recovery. It is not. While we support NA and what they provide for addicts, Nar -Anon is about those who currently have an addict in their life and are suffering from the chaos and debilitating effects of living with addiction. It is a program to deal with the damage done to the family and friends of the addict, through the experience of others, and by connecting with their God. This is a program. Nar- Anon is not a onetime event. Those living with and needing help and recovery in their life with an addict are encouraged to come and participate in the program offered, and come back as often as needed. It contains questions to consider in one s daily meditation and prayer, to help with our spiritual growth. I am finding them to be quite enlightening and helpful. A MIRROR OF QUESTION What dreams did I create last night? Where did my eyes linger today? Where was I blind? Where was I hurt without anyone noticing? What did I learn today? What did I read? What new thoughts visited me? What differences did I notice in those closest to me? Whom did I neglect? Where did I neglect myself? What did I begin today that might endure? How were my conversations? What did I do today for the poor and the excluded? Did I remember the dead today? When could I have exposed myself to the risk of something different? Where did I allow myself to receive love? With whom today did I feel most myself? What reached me today? How did it imprint? Who saw me today? What visitations had I from the past and from the future? What did I avoid today? From the evidence why was I given this day? For more information, please contact Mike Woshner at , John Major at , or Bill Beck at REMEMBERING OUR MILITTARY As Christmas fast approaches we were hoping to be able to send Christmas packages to any members of the parish who are serving overseas. The idea is to stuff Christmas stockings with necessities and small gifts that the men and women can use and enjoy. If you have a family member who is currently serving or will be serving overseas during Christmas, please notify the parish office with their name and an address where a small package can be sent to them during the holidays. The deadline for receiving names will be the end of November. If you would like to help with this effort, please call Fr. Steve at the parish office: ext. 203 PRE-CANA 2018 Understanding all the planning that goes into a wedding, advanced planning for the 2018 Spring Pre-Cana Program at Holy Apostles Parish has begun. It will be held at the Parish Office Building at St. Albert the Great. It will begin on Friday, March 16 with registration at 6:30 PM at Holy Apostles Parish Office Building at St. Albert the Great (3198 Schieck St., Pittsburgh, PA and end on Saturday, March 17 at 3:30 PM. Refreshments, program materials, and lunch on Saturday are all included. There is a donation of $60 per couple for this essential training. There will be another offering on September 14 & 15. So get us on your calendar now. More details will be forthcoming in January. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our parish office at and ask for Deacon Mike or Deacon Jim. VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED. If you have a soft spot for remembering the men and women from our parish who are currently serving in the armed forces overseas we are looking for your help. We would like to form a committee who will gather the names and address of those serving, so the parish can send them cards and a Christmas package to remind them they are in our hearts and prayers. We would also like to have photo boards to display in our churches to remember them at Mass. If you think you can dedicate some time to helping form the committee, please call the parish office and leave your name and number so we can schedule a meeting and open-house for others who may want to help. While this process involves many aspects, including studying how our parishes are structured, fundamentally it is about fostering relationships rooted in faith and love. We are all beloved children of God and heirs to his Kingdom. We cannot forget this as throughout the coming months and years we get to know even more of our brothers and sisters in Christ. While we are anxious about what we might lose, we must be confident about what we will be able to gain as we grow together. The cost is $ We will be selling them after all Masses at all the Churches, on the weekends F Dear Parish Family, Grace and peace to you in Christ Jesus our Lord! What a joy to be able to share more of my heart with you this week! This week I had a wonderful conversation about prayer with an acquaintance of mine. He said that he was at a conference with 100 Catholic leaders from all over the US. These leaders were together for important church business, and he made a point to ask many of them over the few days they were together about their relationship with Christ Jesus. Much to his amazement, many of these church leaders were unable to articulate their relationship God. Some people might say that they are not sure about knowing God in a personal way, but they are sure to say their prayers. If this is the case, you might ask yourself, who are you praying to? Teresa of Avila says that in order to really pray, we must know who we are and who it is that we are talking to. Think about it, you cannot have an intelligent conversation unless you know who it is you are talking to. If you called the pizza guy and started talking about your hard day in the office, he is going to hang up pretty quick. How is it that we pray, but do not know the one we are speaking with? Remember the lady I quoted last week who said that she prayed 5 hours a day but did not feel Catholic enough? What she was really expressing by saying, I don t feel Catholic enough was the fact that there was something deeper missing in her prayer life that she could not define. That something deeper, was a real living relationship with Jesus Christ! My children in the Lord, Jesus is obsessed with you! He gave and continues to give everything for you! Please return his love, and yearning by getting to know Him. The most basic way to do this is to read the Gospels. There we learn all about who our God really is! Take a 2 minutes a day and read a chapter or the daily readings and you will be amazed at how you come to know our Lord! Be blessed! In Christ, Fr. Levi
