4 As I prepared for this weekend s bulletin, I reflected on how far we have come as Holy Apostles Parish. Sure we have separate church buildings, but we truly have become; One Church, One Body in Christ. I often think about the prayer Jesus prayed for his disciples past, present and future. I believe this is the most beautiful and powerful prayer of Jesus because he prays sincerely for Oneness among his followers and that includes us. I think of the past three-plus years and how we have become One Body and one family of believers. In so many ways, our parish continues to be to others, a living example of what Jesus prayed so earnestly for. Together we can be a living presence as One Body of Christ, by working together to be the eyes of Christ,by seeing others as Jesus sees them; the ears of Christ, by listening to others as Jesus listens to them; the hands of Christ,by caring for others the way Jesus cares for them and the heart of Christ, by loving others as Jesus loves them. Sure it isn t always easy but we are strengthened by the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of the Lord. Today we celebrate that moment in time when Jesus gathered with the apostles in the upper room, He spoke the words: This is my Body This is my Blood as He instituted the very Eucharist that continues to strengthen us today. Today we celebrate that these same words are repeated all over the world at every Mass. Jesus Body and Blood becomes present on altars all over the world when Christians gather as One to celebrate the Eucharist at Mass. Today is a little more special to me because I not only celebrate the gift of His Body and Blood but the fact that His Body and Blood is what strengthens us to be one Body of Christ worshiping, working, playing and praying as one parish family. Our churches are the large upper rooms of today s Good News where Jesus continues to speak the words of consecration and where we continue to respond to His pray for us to be brought to perfection as One. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world and I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth."i pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. The time it takes is 45 minutes to one hour. We will work to schedule a time that is convenient for both mom and dad to attend. Sponsors are also welcome. 5 By Stephanie Logue Unity A few months ago, a friend and fellow parishioner gave me an article on unity. When I think of unity, I imagine a group of people with the same opinions and ideas working or living together. This article somewhat refuted my thoughts by stating that unity doesn t mean we agree on everything, but it does mean that we respect each other s differences. In today s world, there is divisiveness everywhere with protests in our country and rifts among our government leaders and representatives. The article stated that unity must begin in the family. If we can t respect our own family members, how can we ever hope to respect others? I had two aunts who didn t speak to each other for 14 years because of a petty disagreement. It disrupted our family unity, as no one would invite both of them to the same event. There is a lack of unity in the Church as well. Many don t like the changes that are occurring. Sometimes we disagree with a fellow parishioner or with our clergy. We complain. We say hurtful things. Some switch to another parish. Others give up and just quit attending. The point is, we don t have to agree with everyone. We don t even have to like everyone. Just remember that we are always united as brothers and sisters in Christ. June Festival of Praise The theme of unity was evident at the June 10 Festival of Praise. With a good mix of parishioners and nonparishioners, we were all united in our desire to praise the Lord. Witness speaker, Fr. Jeremy Mohler, said that he prays to be open to whatever God asks of him. He recommits to the Holy Spirit every day of his life. Benedictine Monk, Fr. Boniface Hicks, told us that we must relinquish control of our lives and surrender to the Lord. He said that to be baptized in the Holy Spirit is to fall in love with God. We will not accept clothing, stuffed animals, exercise equipment, furniture, TV S, large appliances, computers, printers, stereo system, fridges, airconditioning units, encyclopedias or textbooks. Other Festival Donations, NEW gift cards, NEW scratch off lottery tickets, NEW small appliances, and unopened beer, wine, and spirits. There are boards in the back of the Churches with tags for the Chinese Auction Baskets.
