1 Third Sunday of Lent March 4, 2018 KEEP HOLY THE SABBATH There s no better way to deepen our Lenten practice than to review the Ten Commandments. The first three, having to do with our right relationship to God, get the most ink. The one we busy people probably have the most problem with is keeping holy the Sabbath. If we take this commandment literally, babies will go undiapered and dishes will stay on the table, or perhaps meals will not be served. The sick will go unattended and nothing that has anything to do with physical labor will be done. Is mental labor really work? How about changing that dirty diaper (poor baby!)? We need to depend on God to discern how to observe real Sabbath time in our lives. The point of this commandment is that God has given us a great gift: one whole day per week when we are free to rest, worship God, sing, feast, love, and rejoice. As Psalm 19 proclaims: The law of the LORD is perfect, / refreshing the soul (19:8). Our Sabbath rest is a great gift, to be received from God with joy, not with nitpicking. Copyright J. S. What does it mean to me to live the truth, especially today when many claim their own truth in opposition to someone else s truth? Parents are encouraged to take the class before their child is born. This class is normally offered once per month. The next class will be held Wednesday, March 14, 7:00 8:30 p.m. in the church. It is necessary to preregister by calling the Parish Office. You may not schedule a baptism until you have attended class. For more information or to register for the class, call the Parish Office at Godparents are also welcome to attend. New Parishioner Registration If you are interested in becoming a registered member of St. Timothy's Parish you can easily do so after any of the Masses next weekend. Simply go to the West Room in the back of the church right after Mass. Another option for registering as a new parishioner is to stop by the parish office during weekday business hours. North Metro Grief Support Coalition: Growing Through Loss This series is being held at the Church of the Epiphany, th Ave. NW, Coon Rapids. This will support a community of 5,000. Infant Jesus High School Manavanur, Manaparai Taluk, India: Government funding high schools are not available in this area. This school provides education to all students irrespective of caste & creed. The school is in need of updating the girl s lavatory; current conditions have an open roof facility & inadequate sanitation causing disease and poor learning atmosphere. Viacha, Ingavi, near La Paz, Bolivia: A village of dairy farmers who have received minimal rain in the last few years. They have dug wells but have not been fitted with pumps and are not sealed. Much of their water is contaminated. The donation will go to Cross Catholic International who is fitting their well with pumps and cement covers making their water safe for the community. Donations can be made with your envelopes and on our parish website. Thank you for your generosity! Blaine Perkins presents "Coon Rapids-Blaine Meals on Wheels" Dine to Donate For the months of February & March 2018 at Blaine Perkins Ulysses St NE, Blaine Just bring a certificate in anytime during the months of February and March, 2018 when you eat a meal at Blaine Perkins and they will donate 10% from your total bill to Meals on Wheels. Please present this certificate to the cashier and let them know that you are with Meals on Wheels. The 10% can also be applied to the bakery. No coupons will be able to be used with this fundraiser. Certificates are available in the parish office or on the bulletin boards at church. Food Shelf Collection This Weekend The monthly collection for CEAP is taking place this weekend, March 3/4. Please bring your gifts forward at the time of the Preparation of the Gifts. STARS Meeting The STARS (St. Tim s Active Retired Seniors) next meeting will be Thursday, March 8. We will begin with Mass at 9 a.m. in the church followed by the rosary in the chapel then follow with the business meeting in Room 224 of the Parish Center. Entertainment will follow with music by Jim Berner. Lunch will be served at noon. New members are welcome. Call Bev at or Marce at for further information. Family Promise in Anoka County Helping families experiencing homelessness Our next week for hosting families is 4/15-4/22/18. Knights of Columbus Fish Fries The Blaine/Coon Rapids Knights of Columbus are currently having their Lenten fish fries at St. Tim s Hospitality Center every Friday during Lent except Good Friday. Serving from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Menu: fish (baked & deep fried), French Fries or baked potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, bread, and beverage. Carry out available. Prices: $12/adult; $9.00/senior citizens 62 & older, $5/children 12 & under. No charge for children 5 and under. KC Ladies Auxiliary will be selling baked goods also. March Prayer Shawl Gatherings Please join us on Monday, March 5, 7-8:30 and/or Wednesday March 21, 1-2:30 p.m. in the parish center, as we knit and crochet shawls of comfort, love and peace. Knights of Columbus Breakfast Next Sunday, March 11th, after Sunday Masses, the Knights will serving breakfast in the Hospitality Center. The menu will consist of: Scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast, pancakes, French toast, juice, coffee, fresh fruit, sausage patties. A free will offering will be collected.

Cross Catholic Outreach is fitting the wells with pumps & cement covers making the water safe for the community.
