1 Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 23, 2018 HOW DO WE TREAT THE MESSENGER? Let s not be too hasty in defining who is the wicked one and who (namely us) is just! We are very quick to label others as evil, because we tend to label ourselves as good guys. We don t like it when we are brought up short by a prophetic voice that brings us some bad news about our own behavior. We don t like to be reproached for transgressions of the law or charged with violations of our training. We may condemn and abuse those who bring us up against these truths about ourselves when, if we were really good, we would thank them for helping to keep us on the right path. This is the way they treated the prophets and the way they treated Jesus. Is this also the way we treat those whose message we don t like? Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

(Mark 9:35) What evidence do you see in the world around you that many do not accept Jesus teaching on power and ambition? For next weekend September 30 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time Setting Priorities Listen! The wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. (James 5:4) What are the three most important values motivating your daily decisions? NEW PROJECTORS AND SCREENS ARE ON THE WAY! New digital projectors and screens will be installed this fall at St Tim s. The new system will feature two digital projectors suspended from the ceiling about 30 in front of the screens. The screens are composed of HD material, and will stretch to 133 diagonally. They will be installed over the existing screens, so no alterations will be made to the walls. The new system is necessary because the 20+year-old projectors are failing. In researching this we discovered that new projectors are not compatible with the dimensions of the old screens, so we needed to either replace the entire system or discontinue using projectors and screens entirely. The new system should provide better clarity, resolution, and overall visual accessibility throughout the worship space. Installation should be completed later this fall. The entire project will cost $45,000, which will come primarily from our cash reserves. If you would like to make a contribution to help off-set the cost against reserves, you are welcome to do so! Contributions can be mailed to the parish office or dropped in the regular collection basket at weekend masses. Checks should indicate on the memo line that the contribution is designated to the Projector/Screen Project, or cash contributions should include your name and envelope number so that we may add that credit on your year-end statement. We will inform you as the installation dates are confirmed and planned. We hope will this will enhance our celebration of the Eucharist and other parish events for many years to come! In Memoriam Let us keep members of our parish in our thoughts and prayers especially Patricia Schuneman Donald Nord who have recently died. Let the grace of our prayers enfold the families and friends of these parishioners as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. 3 Page 3 Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 23, 2018 FAITH FORMATION & ENRICHMENT Finding God in Times of Change a series with Carolyn Kalovitz Everyone is invited to a series of three reflective evenings, Finding God in Times of Change with Carolyn Kalovitz. The first session, Spiritual Grandparenting, is Wednesday, October 10.. The second session, Moving Forward in Sync with your Soul is Thursday, January 24th and third session A Conversation with St. Hildegard of Bingen is Thursday, February 28th. All sessions will be in the parish center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. More information will be available in future bulletins and on the parish website as well. St Timothy s is happy to partner with Carolyn Kalovitz in this series. Carolyn s life work is accompanying people through life transitions. Whether working with tween girls transitioning into womanhood, young adults embarking on new career or relationship paths, people at midlife feeling stuck on autopilot, or the dying as they review their lives and let go of the earthly realm. Carolyn focuses on self-compassion and connecting people to what brings the most meaning to their lives. Carolyn received her graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction from St Catherine University. She has a Bachelor s degree in Psychology, a Master s degree in Women s Studies and because she likes learning so much is close to completing a Master s degree in Theology. Baptizing Your Child at St. Timothy Requirements for having your child baptized at St. Timothy are: registration at St. Tim s (or another parish) and attendance at a pre-baptism class unless it has been less than two years since you have attended our class previously. Parents are encouraged to take the class before their child is born. This class is normally offered once per month. The next class will be held Monday, October 8, 7:00 8:30 p.m. in the church. It is necessary to preregister by calling the Parish Office. You may not schedule a baptism until you have attended class. For more information or to register for the class, call the Parish Office at Godparents are also welcome to attend. Blessing of the Animals Join us, October 7, at 12:30 on the front lawn of the Church for our annual Blessing of the Animals. All animals on leashes, in cages, and aquariums are welcomed St. Tim s Youth Ministry Students in grades 9-12, young adults, and beyond are invited to become small group leaders for our middle schoolers! Lead activities, facilitate discussions, and have fun with students without having to worry about teaching an entire lesson. Sessions are on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:45 p.m. Contact Kristen for more information and to sign up. 4 Page 4 Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 23, 2018 COMMUNITY & OUTREACH Oct. 25 Event organized to help the homeless Anoka Community Connect is a one-day event dedicated to helping people who may be homeless or living with others. It will be held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Church of St. Timothy, th Ave. NE, Blaine. This event gives people who are struggling to find stable housing access to resources and services that can make a difference in their daily lives. Free haircuts, flu shots, blood pressure checks, help with resumes, tips on how to successfully interview and housing information are just a few of the services to be offered. Employers will be looking for people to hire 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and a free bag lunch will be given to those who attend. If you d like to volunteer to be a part of the event, visit for more information and how to sign up! St. Timothy s Sign Choir You are invited to join St. Timothy s Sign Choir. The class started Monday, September 17, but you can still join. The class meets in the parish music room from 6:30-8:00 p.m. You do not need to know American Sign Language to join. You need enthusiasm and a wish to learn. I teach the language through music. It is non threatening and you will find it a fun way to learn. If you are interested, please call the parish office, , to sign up. Children are asked to be with a parent. We would love some gentlemen to join. Teacher/director Nancy Kuehn Blaine Farmer s Market The Farmer s Market is held in St. Timothy Church parking lot, th Avenue, Blaine, every Saturday from 7:00 a.m. - noon and every Tuesday afternoon from 2:00-5:30 p.m. Everything is locally made or grown. Notice: There will be no Gentle Exercise Class on Tuesday, September 25 and October 16. All other Tuesdays class will meet in room 224 from 9:30-10:15. The Gentle Exercise Class will meet each Tuesday until December 18. Come join us and bring a water bottle, 2 cans of soup or hand weights. The exercises can be done either sitting or standing and are good for stretching and balance. Dress comfortably.
