1 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time November 18, 2018 ENCOURAGEMENT This Sunday s Gospel is our final selection from Mark for this liturgical year. It is taken from the end of Jesus teaching in Jerusalem immediately preceding the account of his arrest and passion. In it Jesus gives his disciples hope to sustain them through his passion and death and any persecution or suffering that they would encounter after his resurrection. The words from the book of Daniel also provided hope and encouragement to the people of Daniel s time. The encouragement in these scriptures is meant for us as well, for none of us will escape tribulation in our lives. Followers of Jesus will be able to endure suffering with joyful hope, knowing that Christ s love will lead us along the way of discipleship and give us eternal life with God. Copyright J. S. Thanksgiving Day Mass Thursday, November 22, Mass will be celebrated in the church at 9:00 a.m. Friday, November 23, Mass will be celebrated in the parish center chapel at 9:00 a.m. The Future of the Church of St. Timothy As we gather around the Thanksgiving table we smile with pride and appreciation for the family and friends who make our life special. We helped raise our children, eased our parents into retirement and helped close friends in times of need. We know that we will not always be here to provide that nurturing and support and may have already included them in our estate planning to provide support for them in the future. Your Thanksgiving meal will start with a prayer to a God who has given us so much and whose work on earth we have shared in through our membership in the Church of St. Timothy. Registration forms can be found in the Church and the Parish Center. Registration forms need to be turned in by November 18. Santa s Workshop Saturday, December 1, 9:00-Noon Age 3 (Sept. 2018) - Grade 5 Room 224 of the Parish Center We need many adult and teen elves for this fun event. We ask that you bring one new child s book or puzzle for the Christmas Basket program Healing Hope Grief Support Healing Hope Grief Support meets twice monthly at St Timothy s, and the next meeting is Thursday Nov 29th, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 224 of the administration center. Healing Hope grief support is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one, and is most suitable for teenagers through any age adult. Registration is not required, and you may come to as many or as few of the sessions as is helpful for you. Speaking to Children & Teens on a Tough Topic: Effective tools for parents, guardians, and teachers for discussing complex topics concerning our Church today. Counselor Jamie Mosley will join THIS Sunday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. in the Church to speak on discussing a difficult topic with children and youth. Don t miss the opportunity to help your child navigate the complex topics surrounding our Church. St. Tim s Youth Ministry Mission Trip 2019: Registration is open for the summer 2019 mission trip to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana from July Current grades 8-12 are invited to travel with us as we minister to the Native community through running a kid s camp, working on houses, and other service projects. 4 Page 4 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time November 18, 2018 COMMUNITY & OUTREACH Winter Clothing Collection On the weekend of December 1 and 2, the first Sunday of Advent, we are collecting winter clothing (coats, jackets, hats, gloves, etc.) for all ages of those in need. Please bring clean, slightly used or new items to the back of church before or after each Mass that weekend. Your donation will be appreciated by that someone who receives the much needed warm layer! Volunteers Needed for Winter Clothing Collection We are in need of at least four volunteers for each Mass the weekend of December 1 and 2, the first Sunday in Advent, to help with our winter clothing drive. Volunteers will check in at the back of church before Mass to assist with receiving, packing, and loading clothing into a truck set up in the circular driveway at the front of church. NEED ADVENT SUPPLIES VISIT YOUR GIFT SHOP Advent is approaching. Prepare for this coming Holy season and find what you need at your Gift Shop. They are created by a local artist and have thoughtful messages and some are blank so you may create your own message. The Shop is open during regular office hours, Monday-Friday and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00. Let us help you get ready for the season with no fuss or muss and support your Parish. Red Cross Blood Drive The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at St. Tim s Hospitality Center on Monday, November 26, from 12:30 6:30 p.m. in the Hospitality Center. If you are between the ages of 17 and 75, in good health, and haven t donated blood within the last 6 weeks, we need you! If you re not regularly contacted, call Mike Huey at for an appointment or more information. Appointments can also be made online at Even a little bit makes a difference in someone else s life. Would you like to donate a turkey or money to the Thanksgiving Food Baskets?? If so, bring frozen turkeys to the Parish Center by November 18th. Cash donations must be put in an envelope marked Thanksgiving Baskets and put in the collection basket or sent to the Parish Office. Volunteers are Needed for Thanksgiving Baskets Sunday, Nov. 18 9:40-11:00 a.m volunteers in the Hospitality Center (gym) to set-up for distribution of baskets on Monday. Monday, November 19 **to assemble & distribute - in the Hospitality Center (gym) at the following times: 7:00 a.m. pickups & drivers - meet & pick up the food from Cub and bring it back to St. Tim s. 9:30 10:30 a.m. 20 volunteers to fill baskets. 12:00 3:00 p.m. 16 volunteers to help distribute baskets in the gym. 1:00 2:00 p.m. 6 teams of people to deliver baskets to those who are unable to pick up their basket. Teams work great for deliveries. Please call the Parish Center and leave your name if you are able to help. Family Promise in Anoka County Helping families experiencing homelessness Our next week for hosting families is December 30-Jan 6. Volunteer Sign Up will be the weekend of Dec 1-2 after all the Masses in the back of church. Please consider volunteering to set up and take down which takes 45 minutes to one hour after one of the Masses. This service would be perfect for families to do with their children and for young, strong adults. If you are interested or have questions about volunteering for this service and during our host week please call Kathy Lund at Information on volunteering can also be mailed out to you. Blaine-Coon Rapids KCs The Blaine/Coon Rapids KCs will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 21, at 7:45 p.m. in the Hospitality Center. St. Tim's Men's Club The Men s Club will meet this Monday, November 19, at 6:30 p.m. in St. Tim s Hospitality Center. Refreshments will be served. New members always welcome.
