1 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time November 11, 2018 THE CALL TO DISCIPLESHIP The core vocation in the Gospel of Mark is the vocation, or call, to discipleship. Today s Gospel passage provides us with one last example of what the vocation to discipleship means, and one example of what it doesn t mean. A destitute widow shows us that discipleship means following Jesus way of service, even if it requires giving one s livelihood (or life). The scribes show us by their bad example that discipleship should entail a vocation to extend God s care to those who are most in need. In our reading from the book of Kings another widow and her son are close to death. They too give what little they have, but they are rewarded by Elijah with food enough for a year. And the reading from the Letter to the Hebrews reminds us that Jesus sacrificed his life to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him (Hebrews 9:28). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Psalm Praise the Lord, my soul! (Psalm 146). Second Reading Christ will appear a second time to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him (Hebrews 9:24-28). Gospel This poor widow put in more than all the other contributors (Mark 12:38-44 [41-44]). We especially encourage young families to do this as a way of engaging our young people. When you come to church, check your name off so the usher knows you are present and go to the back of church when the collection is being taken. The usher will instruct you if needed. Question of the Week For this weekend November 11 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Giving from Our Need Jesus said, Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on. (Mark 12-43:-44) What are you willing to give out of love for God that would be a hardship for you? (Mark 13:33) What would you be doing differently in your life if you truly believed you would meet Christ soon? Speaking to Children & Teens on a Tough Topic: effective tools for parents, guardians, and teachers for discussing complex topics concerning our Church today. Counselor Jamie Mosley will join us on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 4:00 p.m. in the Church to speak on discussing a difficult topic with children and youth. Bring $1 if you wish to compete for prizes. For further information contact Ken Langr, Winter Clothing Collection On the weekend of December 1&2, the first Sunday of Advent, we are collecting winter clothing (coats, jackets, hats, gloves, etc.) for all ages of those in need. Please bring clean, slightly used or new items to the back of church before or after each Mass that weekend. Your donation will be appreciated by that someone who receives the much needed warm layer! Volunteers Needed for Winter Clothing Collection We are in need of at least four volunteers for each Mass the weekend of December 1 and 2, the first Sunday in Advent, to help with our winter clothing drive. Volunteers will check in at the back of church before Mass to assist with receiving, packing, and loading clothing into a truck set up in the circular driveway at the front of church. Even a little bit makes a difference in someone else s life. Would you like to donate a turkey or money to the Thanksgiving Food Baskets?? If so, bring frozen turkeys to the Parish Center by November 18th. Cash donations must be put in an envelope marked Thanksgiving Baskets and put in the collection basket or sent to the Parish Office. Volunteers are Needed for Thanksgiving Baskets Sunday, Nov. 18 9:40-11:00 a.m volunteers in the Hospitality Center (gym) to set-up for distribution of baskets on Monday. Monday, November 19 **to assemble & distribute - in the Hospitality Center (gym) at the following times: 7:00 a.m. pickups & drivers - meet & pick up the food from Cub and bring it back to St. Tim s. 9:30 10:30 a.m. 20 volunteers to fill baskets. 12:00 3:00 p.m. 16 volunteers to help distribute baskets in the gym. 1:00 2:00 p.m. 6 teams of people to deliver baskets to those who are unable to pick up their basket. Teams work great for deliveries. Please call the Parish Center and leave your name if you are able to help. Red Cross Blood Drive The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at St. Tim s Hospitality Center on Monday, November 26, from 12:30 6:30 p.m. in the Hospitality Center. If you are between the ages of 17 and 75, in good health, and haven t donated blood within the last 6 weeks, we need you! If you re not regularly contacted, call Mike Huey at for an appointment or more information.
