1 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph December 30, 2018 HOME IS WHERE THE FAMILY IS The idea, dream, and reality of family is so strong and durable that we use it to describe all that is best about human gatherings. We speak of the family of nations, of our church and parish families. The greatest compliment we can pay a friend or gracious host is to say that we feel at home with them, we feel part of the family. Families are the first crucibles in which love is tested and tempered. Jesus himself was one of three people who lived in the shadow of each other. This family, like our own, did not always get it right, but they always tried to. These three amateurs were on holiday, and one of them got lost. Two were worried sick and took great measures to find the third, a boy after all, who was seeking the meaning of his calling. He found his vocation to do his Father s work but he also returned home with his parents. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

This study looks St. Mark s narrative with greater detail, exploring the vivid and moving accounts that reveal to us the actions and emotions of Jesus, more than the other Gospels. 4 Page 4 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph December 30, 2018 COMMUNITY & OUTREACH Social Justice News Refugee Resettlement Collection: St. Timothy s has helped resettle hundreds of refugees over the past 43 years, both by directly hosting families and by collecting household furnishings and goods for newly arriving refugees, including people from Vietnam, Liberia, Bosnia, Somalia, Laos, Iraq, and other countries too numerous to list. In the coming year, several hundreds of refugees will be arriving to the Twin Cities and Southern Minnesota, and we wish for them to experience that we are a Community of Welcome. Members of St. Timothy s Refugee Resettlement Task Force will be in the back of church next weekend, January 5th and 6th to collect your donations of household goods. To donate, you may choose to Bring a Basket, Fill a Basket, or even Buy a Basket with a cash or gift card donation, or just bring items in other packaging. You may bring your donations to the back of church either before or after Mass. While major household goods, such as furniture, beds, tables, chairs and cookware are provided through the Bridging organization, many smaller items are also needed as people set up their new homes. A list of requested items is found in this weekend s bulletin, at the doors of the church, and at the parish office. Cash and gift cards are also accepted, as well as checks made out to St. Timothy s, with memo line indicating Refugees. These donations will be used to purchase additional needed items. Since Catholic Charities in the Twin Cities no longer provides refugee resettlement services, we plan to give our donations to refugees resettled through Catholic Charities in Rochester, and through one of the other agencies in the Twin Cities.
