1 The Ascension of the Lord May 13, 2018 MISSION STATEMENT Today we celebrate Christ s ascension into heaven and his commissioning of the disciples to carry on his mission in the world. First we hear Luke s description of those events in the opening verses of the Acts of the Apostles. Next we hear words of encouragement and guidance from the Letter to the Ephesians. Finally we hear Mark s account of the Ascension, foretelling the mighty words and acts the Christian community would do in Jesus name. Together these scriptures give us a vision of the mission of the church of Jesus Christ a mission statement of sorts. Like mission statements in our parishes and corporations, this mission statement can help us set priorities and focus our activities. Psalm God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord (Psalm 47). Second Reading God seated Jesus at his right hand in the heavens (Ephesians 1:17-23). Seems like a daunting task! How have I come to know the good news, and in what ways do I express that in my choices and daily living? For next weekend May 20 - Pentecost Sunday: Jesus appeared to the disciples greeting them with Peace be with you, and leaving them with the gift of the Holy Spirit. What do I think Jesus intends whenever he says Peace be with you? or How is the Holy Spirit manifested in my life? St. Timothy s 75th Jubilee Mark your calendar for the community celebration on Sunday, May 20, Pentecost Sunday. Celebratory Mass at 10:30 a.m. followed by Lunch in the Hospitality Center. Games for the kids Bringing Up the Gifts We encourage people to participate in our weekend liturgies by carrying our offerings of money, bread, and wine to the altar. We especially encourage young families to do this as a way of engaging our young people. Please sign up in the binder on the credenza in back of church for any open weekend Mass you will be attending. When you come to church, check your name off so the usher knows you are present and go to the back of church when the collection is being taken. The usher will instruct you if needed. An Invitation to Prayer Weekday Mass (or a Service of the Word & Communion) is celebrated in our Parish Center Chapel at 9:00 a.m., Monday Friday. The Rosary is recited at 8:30 a.m. Also, the Chapel is available for quiet prayer during Parish office hours. All are invited to come pray before the Blessed Sacrament (in the tabernacle), offering their personal intentions, as well as the intentions of our nation and world. With so many important issues and events taking place throughout the world, this is an excellent way to spend time in prayer. The Ascension of the Lord Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. Many volunteers are needed for this wonderful week. Participants and volunteers: registration forms are available in the Church or the Parish Office. Deadline for registration is June 3. Archdiocesan Marriage Day Celebration Bishop Andrew Cozzens invites you to celebrate the beautiful mystery of the mutual self-gift between a man and woman in the Sacrament of Matrimony on Saturday, June 2 at the Cathedral of Saint Paul, 10 a.m. for Mass, renewal of vows, and a short reception. Couples celebrating their silver, golden and platinum anniversaries will be honored in a special way and are invited to attend. Families and friends of all couples are welcome! To register to attend, please contact St. Timothy s parish office, Couples married one year or more may request a commemorative certificate signed by Archbishop Bernard Hebda. Communion at Mass If you, for physical reasons, are unable to come forward for communion at Mass, and would like an usher to lead our Eucharistic Ministers to you to bring you the Eucharist, please notify the ushers before Mass (or have someone notify them for you). They would be happy to help! On a related note, if you are able to come forward for communion, we ask that you please do so, in order that our Eucharistic Ministers have more time to tend to those who are physically unable to come. St. Tim s Youth Ministry FREE CONCERT at U.S. Bank Stadium- Friday, May 18. Featuring Lecrae, Hillsong Young and Free, Jabbawockeez, Nick Hall, and more. Open to all youth, invite friends! In Gratitude Thank you to all the wonderful Guardian Angels who have been busy praying for our Confirmation candidates and anonymously sending them notes of encouragement since last fall. In April the Guardian Angels and Confirmation candidates met each other for the first time. What a powerful ministry and support through prayer these Guardian Angels have provided for our Confirmation candidates as they walk the final year of preparation. God bless and be with all these Guardian Angels. A special thank you to Teena Badzinski for all the help she has given to making this ministry a success. Baptizing Your Child at St. Timothy Requirements for having your child baptized at St. Timothy are: registration at St. Tim s (or another parish) and attendance at a pre-baptism class unless it has been less than two years since you have attended our class previously. Parents are encouraged to take the class before their child is born. This class is normally offered once per month. The next class will be held Tuesday, June 12, 7:00 8:30 p.m. in the church. It is necessary to preregister by calling the Parish Office. You may not schedule a baptism until you have attended class. For more information or to register for the class, call the Parish Office at Godparents are also welcome to attend.

4 Page 4 The Ascension of the Lord May 13, 2018 COMMUNITY & OUTREACH Social Justice News Prayer for Peace All are welcome to join the Social Justice Committee immediately following the 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. Masses in the East Room in the back of the Church or at the Peace Site Bench (weather permitting). Never has the use of violence brought peace in its wake. War begets war, violence begets violence. Pope Francis I Prayer Shawl Gathering We invite you to join us as we create prayer shawls of peace, love and hope this Wednesday May 16, 1-2:30 pm in the parish center. Anoka County Bloodmobile The Anoka County Bloodmobile will be at St. Timothy's Hospitality Center on Monday, May 14 from l:00-7:00 p.m. If you're 16 yrs. or older, in good health, and haven't donated blood within the last 6 weeks, we need you! NOTE: If you are 16 yrs. old, you must be at least 110 lbs. and have a parent's written permission. If you're not regularly contacted, please call Loretta Domino at for an appointment. Also, volunteers are needed to be greeters and kitchen & canteen workers. Please call Loretta if you'd be able to assist. Visits to the Homebound and Care Centers If you or a loved one are homebound or in a care center and would like a visit from our pastoral team, please contact Maggie Philbrook at the parish office, National Catholic Youth Choir Workshop Calling all singers ages 12-18! Free one-day choir workshop at The Cathedral of Saint Paul, Friday, June 22nd from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Train and perform with National Catholic Youth Choir and conductors André Heywood and Dr. Sean Vogt. Learn more and register at Chairpersons Needed We are looking for a Publicity Chair for the Carnival. Procedures and contacts are already set up. It mostly involves calling which can easily be done at home. We are also looking for someone to chair our Raffle Ticket booth. This would involve finding workers and being present on carnival weekend to manage the workers. Everyone is welcome. Bring $1 if you wish to be eligible for prizes and bring your favorite treat to share. Family Promise in Anoka County The Coon Rapids Lions Club will be hosting a fundraiser for Family Promise on Thursday, May 17th, from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Pot Belly Sandwich Shop, Riverdale Blvd NW, Coon Rapids. Dine in and Take out orders will have 25% of the bill donated to Family Promise. (An easy way to help out families experiencing homelessness and you don t have to cook!!) National Catholic Youth Choir Concert National Catholic Youth Choir (NCYC) is coming to The Cathedral of Saint Paul, Friday, June 22nd. This free, familyfriendly concert begins at 7:00 p.m. and will include our very own local, young singers, as well as more than 30 young choristers from across the U.S.!
