1 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 1, 2018 O LORD, BE MY HELP Today we encounter readings that draw us into the mystery of suffering and death. In the past few years we have witnessed the devastation of life and property through earthquakes and hurricanes. So many lifted their lament to God, simply asking, Why? This is an honest expression of anger toward a God who we believe is the giver of life. When we lose a loved one, we can wonder why the presence of Christ is not enough to make that person rise, even from death, as did the little girl in today s Gospel passage. Again we raise our voices and ask, Why? At moments such as these, let us make the prayer of the psalmist our own: Hear, O LORD, and have pity on me; O LORD, be my helper. Let us pray that our mourning will one day be turned into dancing. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

(2 Corinthians 8:9) When have you felt enriched by a sacrifice you made for another? For next weekend July 8 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Self-acceptance [Paul said,] Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would leave me, but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:8) What unavoidable weakness in yourself do you struggle to accept? Parish Office Closed The Parish Office will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. There will be a Communion Service at 9:00 a.m. in the chapel. An Invitation to Prayer Weekday Mass (or a Service of the Word & Communion) is celebrated in our Parish Center Chapel at 9:00 a.m., Monday Friday. The Rosary is recited at 8:30 a.m. Also, the Chapel is available for quiet prayer during Parish office hours. All are invited to come pray before the Blessed Sacrament (in the tabernacle), offering their personal intentions, as well as the intentions of our nation and world. With so many important issues and events taking place throughout the world, this is an excellent way to spend time in prayer. Communion at Mass If you, for physical reasons, are unable to come forward for communion at Mass, and would like an usher to lead our Eucharistic Ministers to you to bring you the Eucharist, please notify the ushers before Mass (or have someone notify them for you). They would be happy to help! On a related note, if you are able to come forward for communion, we ask that you please do so, in order that our Eucharistic Ministers have more time to tend to those who are physically unable to come. In Memoriam Let us keep members of our parish in our thoughts and prayers especially Geraldine Fjeld and Benjamin Burville who have recently died. Let the grace of our prayers enfold the families and friends of these parishioners as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. 5 Pope Francis' Five Finger Prayer Using the fingers on your hand, start with the thumb and pray these intentions in this order: 1.) The thumb is closest finger to you. So start praying for those who are closest to you. They are the persons easiest to remember. To pray for our dear ones is a "Sweet Obligation." 2.) The next finger is the index. Pray for those who teach you, instruct you and heal you. They need the support and wisdom to show direction to others. Always keep them in your prayers. 3.) The following finger is the tallest. It reminds us of our leaders, the governors and those who have authority. They need God's guidance. 4.) The fourth finger is the ring finger. Even though it may surprise you, it is our weakest finger. It should remind us to pray for the weakest, the sick or those plagued by problems. They need your prayers. 5.) And finally we have our smallest finger, the smallest of all. Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. When you are done praying for the other four groups, you will be able to see your own needs but in the proper perspective, and also you will be able to pray for your own needs in a better way.
