1 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time October 21, 2018 TOO MUCH INFORMATION! There is a common expression: Too much information! We usually use it when people tell us details about their lives that we don t want or need to know. Today, when James and John ask Jesus a simple question, making their request for places of honor in the kingdom, a simple answer might have been in order. Instead, as he often does, Jesus answers a question with a question; today it s about drinking the cup of suffering. Then, once the others are indignant over James and John s outrageous request, he proceeds to give them what may have been too much information for followers who were simply interested in the pursuit of glory. But this information, though it can sometimes seem too much for us, is essential for our lives as disciples. In Isaiah, in Hebrews, and in Mark today, we learn this information. It is in suffering, in weakness, in self-giving service to others, that we come to understand the kingdom. It is the information we need to find our place and come to be honored in the reign of God. (Mark 10:44) Why is it hard to do good works if you will not be acknowledged for them? For next weekend October 28 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time The Eyes of Faith Jesus said to him, Go; your faith has made you well. Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the on the way. (Mark 10:52) What have your eyes of faith helped you see in a new way? Baptizing Your Child at St. Timothy Requirements for having your child baptized at St. Timothy are: registration at St. Tim s (or another parish) and attendance at a pre-baptism class unless it has been less than two years since you have attended our class previously. Parents are encouraged to take the class before their child is born. This class is normally offered once per month. The next class will be held Monday, November 5, 7:00 8:30 p.m. in the church. It is necessary to preregister by calling the Parish Office. You may not schedule a baptism until you have attended class. For more information or to register for the class, call the Parish Office at Godparents are also welcome to attend. In Memoriam Let us keep members of our parish in our thoughts and prayers especially Lucille Johnson who has recently died. Let the grace of our prayers enfold the family and friends of this parishioner as they mourn the loss of their loved one. George Scholarship. This scholarship fund is awarded to graduating high school seniors to recognize their involvement and service to St. Timothy s parish. New York Times Bestselling author Dr. Mary Neal presents: Living a Joyful Life Sunday, Nov. 11, :00 p.m. Church of St. Timothy, th Ave. NE, Blaine Free and open to the public Healing Hope: Grief Support Group at St. Tim s Healing Hope is facilitated by licensed and trained therapist, Bob Bartlett of Phoenix Process Consultants. Bob has over 30 years experience in counseling various family issues, including grief. Meetings are held at St. Tim s on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. in the parish center. No need to register; the sessions are free. The group is best-suited to older teens and adults. Dates for fall meetings are November 8 and November 29. For more information please call Bob Bartlett at St. Tim s Youth Ministry Youth Group: St. Tim s Youth are going to Trick-or-Treat for the Food Shelf this Halloween! Meet at the parish center on October 31 at 6:00 p.m. and divide into groups to walk around the neighborhood asking for items for the food shelf. Please bring bags, warm clothes, and a smile. Parent chaperones are needed and Halloween costumes are optional (but encouraged!) We will meet back at the Parish Center at 7:30 p.m. Contact Kristen for more info. High school students (St. Tim s member or not!) are invited to join us for youth group on Nov. 7, 14, and 28 for food, games, faith, and just a good time! Mission Trip 2019: Registration is open NOW for the summer 2019 mission trip to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana from July Current grades 8-12 are invited to travel with us as we minister to the Native community through running a kid s camp, working on houses, and other service projects. Faith Formation Teaching Mass on Oct. 24 from 6:30-7:45 p.m. Join us for a Mass with teaching moments about why Catholics do what we do during the Mass. This is a scheduled middle school night, though parents, other family members, Confirmation students, and parishioners are invited and encouraged to attend! Middle School Next session is the teaching Mass this Wednesday and then again in the parish center on Nov. 7th. NO class on Halloweenbut come trick-or-treating for food shelf items with us! Never has the use of violence brought peace in its wake. War begets war, violence begets violence. Pope Francis I St. Timothy s Food Shelf Garden is in need of bags of fall leaves to be used next spring for weed control. The garden is located south of the Parish Center. Bags can be dropped off in the north end of the garden. The food collected will be used for St. Timothy s Thanksgiving & Christmas Baskets as well as the Food Shelf. Each & every item of food you donate helps one more family.
