2 My Dear Parishioners, This weekend marks the Divine Mercy Sunday. All the readings for this Sunday are about God s mercy, the necessity for trusting Faith and our need for the forgiveness of our sins. Divine Mercy is abundantly given to us in each celebration of the Sacraments, instituted to sanctify us. Today s Gospel vividly reminds us of how Jesus instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a sacrament of Divine Mercy. Jesus showed his mercy to the doubting apostle and emphasizes the importance of Faith. Are we willing show mercy in our Christian lives? I take this occasion to express my appreciation and gratitude to Fr Suresh and Eric Thompson for preparing the RCIA candidates. My appreciation and thanks also to all the sponsors for their help and prayers. Thanks to all the parish families of four parishes for your support and prayers. Congratulations: St. Mary s, Neoga had Confirmations on Friday, April 6. Congratulations and God s many blessings to all the 17 who were confirmed. Every Wednesday evening we gather to pray for Fr. Bud and for all the sick and suffering of our four parishes. The service begins at 7:00 P.M. and takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes. The prayer service is at Sigel in April. The 2018 St. Michael Church Picnic is just around the corner and the Raffle Committee is already hard at work to make this year's event a memorable one. 4 The staff at Effingham Catholic Charities will host a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Thursday, April 19, from 8 AM 10 AM. This breakfast is an opportunity for the staff members to thank the volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication. Volunteers assist with the Second Hand Rose Resale Shoppe, Ramblin Rose school bus, Food Pantry and Mobile Food Pantry throughout the year. The breakfast will be held in the Catholic Charities conference room. Please enter through the Front Office door on the front east side of the building. HELP FOR AGING FAMILIES COMMUNITIY EVENT will take place on April 11 th at the Keller Convention Center between 10 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. the event is open to the general public. The option of lunch for attendees will be $15 per person. Registration is required by April 6 th ANNUAL CATHOLIC SERVICE APPEAL.... If you have not already done so, please send in your donation to help cover the parish assessment on the 2018 ACSA. Any monies short of the assessment will have to come out of the general parish funds. St. Michael the Archangel, Sigel: As of March 27, 2018, ninety (90) parishioners (25%) of 363 parishioners have pledged $12, (101%) towards our goal of $12,434. The good news...we have met our assessment this year; the bad news... only 25% of our parishioners gave a donation to the ACSA. Our sincere thanks to all who have given toward the ACSA. For those that have not, it is not too late to give a donation. Any monies received above the assessment will be refunded to St. Michael s. St. Mary of the Assumption, Neoga: As of March 27, 2018, forty one (41) parishioners (33%) of 123 parishioners have pledged $5, (59%) towards our goal of $8, leaving a balance due of $3, If no further donations are given to the ACSA, $3, will have to be taken from the general operating expense to cover the balance due. St. Mary Help of Christians, Green Creek: As of March 27, 2018, seventy six (76) parishioners (47%) of 161 parishioners have pledged $7, (70%) towards our goal of $10,186 leaving a balance due of $3, If no further donations are given to the ACSA, $3, will have to be taken from the general operating expense to cover the balance due. PICNIC Our parish picnic is on July 15, Chairmen and co-chairmen, get together and start organizing your stand. Everyone between the age of 10 and 70 are expected to help. Do you have a preference on what you what to do? If so, there is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. Please sign up. We will try to accommodate as many as we can. If you cannot help on the 15 th, now is the time to let me know. If you cannot help on the 15 th for some reason, maybe you can take care of advertising or ordering or organizing or something that can be done before hand. Also, calls are going out now to the dinner committee. Anyone under the age of 70 is eligible unless you have a medical reason or you have previously been on the dinner committee in the last 10 years. Starting last year, half of the couples have agreed to stay on for another year and only 5 new couples will be picked each year. Therefore it will be a two year commitment just like the rest of the stands at the picnic. First year co-chairman and 2 nd year chairmen. In doing this, the first year you are finding out what needs to be done and the 2 nd year you can lead and show the co-chairman what needs to be done. WANT TO FEEL BETTER? PAINTING Assumption Hall is getting a new coat of paint! The process started Saturday, April 7 th. All meetings for the month will be in the rectory. If you have a scheduled event, it will be in the hall as scheduled. If you have an event that is NOT scheduled through the parish office, do so now! PSR will continue in the hall as scheduled. Please keep free of the hall so that our painters can remain on schedule. LADIES COUNCIL OFFICERS We are now looking for volunteers to be the new Ladies Council Officers for the next term.
