Luke 13:1-9 Prepare For Next Sunday s Readings INTRODUCTION In next Sunday s Gospel, (March 31), the readings focus on reconciliation, forgiveness and moving forward. Forgiveness is one-sided; one can choose to forgive, but reconciliation requires two people in the act of coming together. God offers us both forgiveness and reconciliation and does not hold our sins against us once we have asked for forgiveness. Are we able to do the same with one another? Stations of the Cross will be every Friday of Lent at 7:00 pm at St. Columcille. St. Columcille HS youth will host a game night at St. Columcille Church Hall on Sunday, March 24 th for St. Columcille and Immaculate Conception high schoolers from 5:30 7:30 pm. The March meeting of the St. Columcille Council of Catholic Women will be held on Monday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall. A six week DVD series on The Mass by Bishop Robert Barron will begin on Wednesday, March 27 th at 9:30 am at St. Columcille in the Parish Hall and run for six weeks. Join in for coffee and fellowship and learn how to get more out of the Mass. Any questions, please call Gail Loveall at A Pilgrim s Progress. This week the priests of the diocese will meet with Bishop Paprocki for annual spring gathering. The sessions begin at noon on Tuesday and conclude at noon on Wednesday. Mass on Tuesday will be at 7 AM at IC and the two masses on Wednesday: 1:30 at Courtyard Estates in Sullivan and 5:15 at St. Columcille. The sessions with the Bishop will focus on the new restored order of the Sacraments of Reconciliation. Beginning this fall for St. Columcille and Immaculate Conception baptized children will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation before First Eucharist. These Sacraments will be received at the same mass. First Communion and Confirmation will take place for students from both parishes this October 13 th at the 10:30 A.M. mass at Immaculate Conception. Bishop Paprocki will be here for the celebration of Confirmation. I have been very grateful for the participation at the Stations of the Cross on Friday evenings at both parishes. If you have not yet prayed this meaningful devotion with your parish family, please make it a point to do so this week. Pax et Bonum, fr john Mass at Courtyard Estates will take place on Wed., March 27 at 1:30PM. The last St. Columcille Knights of Columbus fish fry is scheduled for the Friday, April 5 from 5-7pm. The cost remains at $8 for adults, $3 for ages 6 to 12, and free for under 6. All brother knights are encouraged to assist. ST. 5 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MEETING March 25, KC Council 7:30PM On Friday April 26th Bishop Paprocki will ordain 8 of our Springfield Diocesan seminarians to the transitional diaconate. Two of these men, Dominic Vahling and Peter Chineke, have spent time at St. Columcille and Immaculate Conception during their formation. Our parishes are sponsoring a bus for those who would like to attend the ordination mass at the Cathedral in Springfield. The bus will leave Immaculate Conception that Friday at 3:30 P.M. and St. Columcille at 4:00 P.M. It will return following the ordination mass and reception that evening. One Woman of Distinction from each parish will be honored at Holy Mass on June 1, 2019, in Springfield. In previous years, Marguerite Bennett, Jan Wetzel, Maggie Kirts, Linda Wente, Betty Brandvold, Judy Rawlings and Denise Cooling were chosen as our Woman of Distinction. Criteria for selection are that the woman must actively live her Catholic faith, display her spirituality and share her time and talents with a cheerful attitude by doing acts of service and leadership toward her parish and community. She should demonstrate the mission of the DCCW to support, empower and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership and service.
