Where is love when the river s wide; where conflicts rage and justice is denied? Once there was One who spoke of a world that s close at hand; something inside each of us no matter where we stand. Once there was One who spoke of a better realm nearby; something in us, all around a God who hears our cry. Love is near in every breath you take in the night and day when you sleep and when you wake. Love is here inside each new morn like scattered seeds waiting to be born. One: Do not be impressed by the outward appearance of a person, for God does not see like we do, but looks into the heart. Many: If anyone travels with Christ, there is a new creation, old things are obsolete, all things become new. One: Let us worship this God who looks into the human heart and through Christ Jesus makes all things new.

You were a refugee, seeking safety and freedom, and we did not welcome you. You were naked and exposed, with inadequate shelter and insufficient pay, and we did not fight with you for equal rights. You were fearful of being detained or deported without a just trial, and we did not provide you sanctuary. We seek forgiveness for the ways we have forsaken you, and offer our thanks for the communities, people, and organizations who have extended welcome, advocated for justice; and provided sanctuary to people seeking refuge despite opposition. SILENCE Teacher, your instructions are clear: We shall not oppress migrant people, nor deprive them of justice, nor practice extortion or commit robbery against them; We shall love strangers as ourselves, for we have all been strangers; We shall share our harvest, our homes, and our lives with others, thus extending the same hospitality that you have selflessly shared. Renewing the Soul of Worship: Church-Wide Retreat: July 20-22, 2018, Blowing Rock Retreat Center: Every summer, Binkley folks of all ages retreat to the mountains to relax, play, worship, and get to know one another away from normal routines and stresses. What a gift to be able to sip coffee and share stories over breakfast, to sing around a campfire, to play cards or make a puzzle with children of all ages!

7 This year, our focus turns to worship and its enlivening place in our spiritual journeys as individuals and as a faith community. Brad Berglund, author of Reinventing Sundays, as well as a gifted musician and minister, will be our guide. All ages will appreciate Brad s personal, creative, and engaging style. There will also be time for nature hikes, arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt, outdoor games, and a yearly tradition: a delightful talent show on Saturday evening. All talents welcome! Brad heads up an ecumenical ministry that of worship consulting and renewal seminars. In addition to working with churches throughout the world, Brad and his wife, Rita, who hail from Colorado, lead pilgrimages and retreats. Please contact Stephanie Ford if you have questions.
