2 GATHERING RINGING OF THE SANCTUS BELL Some traditions ring Sanctus Bells to call worshippers attention to the holy. (Sanctus means holy or sacred. ) Today, the Sanctus Bell rings to signify the holy around, among, and within us. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL AT BINKLEY "Digging for Treasure," June 26-30: Now is the time to register your child and to invite extended family and friends to register for an exciting week of exploring Jesus' parables through story, music, art, science, and games. Registration forms can be found in the Narthex and at the Binkley website. REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR ENDOWMENT FUND GRANTS: The Binkley Endowment Fund produces income that is to be made available for three specific uses: 1. To provide support for special outreach ministries 2. To supplement support for special projects and programs, and 3. To provide for emergency needs of the physical plant. The Endowment Committee is seeking proposals for use of income generated for use in Requests can be made by any church board or committee or from individual church members. The amount of funds available for 2017 is $7,600. Proposals should include a statement of the purpose of the request (one or two paragraphs should be sufficient), explanation of how the request meets one or more of the three allowed uses listed above, and the amount of the request. Requests should be sent to the Endowment Committee through the church office by May 7 th. The committee will review the requests in May and will make formal recommendations for grants to the Church Council at the May Council meeting if at all possible. Ordinarily, funds must be spent or obligated prior to the end of the calendar year. PRIMETIMERS May 10, 12:30 pm, Lounge: Charles Coble will present Teachers and Teaching A Personal Journey. WEDNESDAY NIGHT SERIES May 10, 5:30 pm, Lounge: On Wednesday Nights, post-easter, a new series has begun: "Perspectives on Justice." The Race, Power and Christian Discipleship class is sponsoring this series of dialogues with African American members of our congregation. This Wednesday, class members will share the impact of watching 13th, a 2016 American documentary exploring the intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States. Short clips from the film will shared, and please know that the content is heavy. (A full screening of the movie at Binkley will be scheduled on a date TBD.) Check Event in the Friendship Register or make a reservation by noon on Tuesday if you plan to attend. Dinner is $6 for adults, $3 for children. PURSUE JUSTICE AND PEACE: Postcard Ministry: If you are interested in conversing with our elected officials about what matters to you most, Outreach and Peace and Justice Action Committees invite you on the second Sunday of every month after worship to write postcards conveying your thoughts. We will have tables, addresses and postcards available in the narthex for you fill out to let elected officials know you're concerned and are looking for a response. We ll even pay the postage for you! The first session is Sunday, May 14 th. CHECK YOUR DIRECTORY LISTING: Our new church directory is almost complete!
