Why did the first to be encountered by a risen crucified Christ feel fear rather than joy? My theory is that the resurrection wasn t just a matter of a person being brought back from the dead. Rather, the resurrection was Jesus is back! That news caused consternation in those who knew Jesus best. ~ Will Willimon, Fear of the Other: No Fear in Love

We are dragged down by all manner of death Fear may suffocate us: the loss of dreams and hopes for ourselves, our families, our communities and our nation. Sorrow may wall us off like a grave, isolating us with anger, frustration, and grief. Yet the smooth stones of our faith are inscribed not with the marks of death, but with the word, Alleluia! So on this Easter morning, we pray that you will fill us with fear and great joy so that, like those women who came to the tomb expecting death, we may instead find the radiant new life that is ever before us in your resurrection!

In addition to singing with several choirs at Millbrook, his musical and performance background includes involvement with The Raleigh Boychoir, the Carolina Ballet, the North Carolina Opera, and the North Carolina Honors Chorus. Grant is a very talented and impressive young man, and we look forward to having him with us for the next few months. 9 YOU ARE INVITED TO. WEDNESDAY NIGHT SERIES Apr. 19, 5:30 pm, Lounge: On Wednesday Nights, post-easter, a new series begins: "Perspectives on Justice." The Race, Power and Christian Discipleship class desires to share its conversations and commitments with the larger Binkley community, and is sponsoring this series of dialogues with African American members of our congregation. Come, taste, and see the work and joy of movement toward more just relationships. Tammerie Day will facilitate our first conversation on April 19. Check Event in the Friendship Register or make a reservation by noon on Tuesday if you plan to attend. Dinner is $6 for adults, $3 for children. CARE FOR YOURSELF: From the Health Committee: April 19th is National Health Care Decisions Day. This is a great time to be certain that your health care power of attorney and durable power of attorney are up to date and that you have indicated your end of life desires on the state s MOST form (completed with your primary care provider). REGISTER FOR THE WOMEN S RETREAT: April 23 is the deadline to register for the May 5-7 Women s Retreat at Trinity Center in Salter Path. We will focus on the Divine Feminine. This is your year to go! Registration forms available at Stephanie Ford s door. LAST PUSH TO MEET GOAL FOR APRIL 23 CROP WALK: We have raised $2,635 of our $6,600 goal to help fight hunger. And the CROP Hunger Walk is only a week away! Binkley CROP Walk Hunger Fighters that have joined the team to date include Sherri Davis, Tammerie Day, Marcus McFaul, Margie Billinger, Stephanie Ford, Avery Jenkins, Sheryl Scrimsher, Linda Textoris, April Harper, Nan Pardington, and Kimberly Brewer. AMANDA TYLER VISITS BINKLEY Apr. 30: Amanda, Executive Director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty (profiled in February s Beacon), will be at the Alliance of Baptists meeting that weekend and has agreed to visit Binkley on Sunday, April 30. She will deliver the sermon during 11:00 worship and will also join us for a Lunch & Learn following worship in the Lounge. Please take this opportunity to meet Amanda in person and learn how the BJC is reacting to the many challenges posed by the current political climate in Washington. Lunch is $5, please make a reservation at the office by noon on 4/27, if you plan to attend. PLEA FOR PARKING LOT COMPASSION: It's wonderful that our parking lot is full on Sunday morning! Yet it creates a concern for many people who have difficulty walking. The spaces directly in front of the sanctuary entrance will be renovated this year to include more access for those with mobility challenges. Until then, if you have the great blessing of energy and ability to walk, please park further away from the entrance and save those spaces for those who need them most. Your understanding and compassion will be most appreciated. OUR WIDER COMMUNITY ALLIANCE OF BAPTISTS 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AND ANNUAL GATHERING, Apr : Over four days in April, the Alliance of Baptists will convene in Raleigh to discuss why we have hope in what Baptists can offer the world and to celebrate the good work of the Alliance in the world, while embracing, ever more deeply, the challenging work of justice and love ahead of us.
