Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Text by St. Alcuin * CALL TO WORSHIP Dale Osborne One: From scripture we learn what the Holy One deems good: Many: To do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God. (Micah 6:8) One: From scripture we learn that Jesus understood his Spirit-anointed mission as one which sought: Many: To bring good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captive, recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor. (Luke 4:18-19) One: From scripture, we learn that God has given gifts that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, Many: to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-12) One: We gather to worship the One who still calls us all to such ministry in this world. This is the day which the Lord has made, All: Let us rejoice and be glad in it! * HYMN IN PROCESSION God of Grace and God of Glory 464 CWM RHONDDA * INVOCATION Peg Williams

Many: Thanks be to God. * HYMN O for a Faith, a Living Faith see insert SERMON We Live Storied Lives Keith Herron If anyone wants to provide leadership in the church, good! I Timothy 3:1, from The Message INTRODUCTION OF MARCUS MCFAUL Howard Lee Sondra VanSant Melinda Wilde Marcus, minister of word and sacrament, brother in Christ, friend: You have been called by God through the voice of this congregation to be its minister; you have been called to help lead this people in the way of Jesus Christ. Within this congregation, where every member is a minister, you have been set apart for special service, to equip the body of Christ for its ministry of reconciliation to the world. As we embark on this new chapter of our ministry together, CHARGE TO THE PASTOR & LITANY OF INSTALLATION We charge you -- Remember always that Jesus came not to be served but to serve. We charge you -- live with the joy and confidence that comes from being rooted in the gospel and in knowing the giftedness of life. While your office grants you privilege, it is the responsibility to serve in the name of Christ Jesus. So, in the practice of your ministry, We charge you -- To love and serve Christ s people, in this place and beyond, even as Christ has loved you; sharing our joys, our burdens, our labors, our faith. Be open also to learning from us, even as you open your life to us. We charge you --Preach the Living Word of God, who is Jesus Christ. Teach faithfully, providing for our spiritual life and instruction. Nourish us with wisdom and strengthen us to glorify God. Care for us with patience: young and old, strong and weak, rich and poor, female and male, gay and straight, indeed, making space where all are welcome. Show the love of Jesus to all peoples at all times and places.

4 We charge you -- To joyfully serve all of us with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love, relying on God s mercy and rejoicing in God s promises through Jesus Christ. We charge you -- to seek Christ s presence in prayer, strengthening yourself for your work. Spend ample time in study and do not shortchange it; for only then can you be a worthy instrument. Trust the many gifts bestowed upon you and allow God and this congregation to forgive your failings. Observe Sabbath, take leisure and recreation. Do not be timid in your own transformation. Marcus, do you, in the presence of this congregation, commit yourself to this new trust and responsibility? (Marcus responds, With God s help, I will. ) Michael Usey Will you who witness this new beginning support and uphold Marcus in this ministry? (Congregation will respond, With God s help, we will. ) CHARGE TO THE CONGREGATION ANTHEM Canticle of Fellowship Craig Courtney Therefore, as God s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Forgive each other as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love. Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above. Before the Eternal throne we pour our ardent prayers; our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares. Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in love. We share our mutual woes, our mutual burdens bear; and often for each other flows the sympathizing tear. When we asunder part, it gives us inward pain; but we shall still be joined in heart, and hope to meet again. Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in love. From sorrow, toil, and pain and sin we shall be free; and perfect love and joy shall reign through eternity. Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in love. WORD OF GREETING & PRAYER OF INSTALLATION James Harrison Melinda Wilde, Becky Robinson, Ruth Ann Ross & Linda Textoris The stole woven for Dr. McFaul for this occasion will be given to former Binkley ministers Bob Seymour and Jim Pike, and they will then place it on him. Stoles for Dale Osborne, Stephanie Ford, and Daniel Cherrix to be placed by Marcus, Karen Long, Dylan McDonough, Jacob Bradshaw, Lisa Parks, Kara Richards-Baker, and Ellen Stutts. 5 * UNISON READING OF THE BINKLEY MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Binkley Baptist Church is building compassionate and joyful community, freely exploring spiritual paths, and pursuing justice and peace in the way of Jesus. ANTHEM Come Build a Church Ken Medema God of Creation, Maker of all things. We gather here in this place to pray. We do invite you come now among us; come and build your church today. Come build a church with soul and spirit, come build a church of flesh and bone. We need no tower rising skyward; no house of wood or glass or stone. Come build a church with human frailty, come build a church of flesh and blood. Jesus shall be its sure foundation. It shall be built by the hand of God. Let us see the tongues of fire. Let us hear the great wind roar. Let us know the awe and wonder that we ve only glimpsed before. Let us feel the strength of passion, which can make us laugh and weep. Let us know this great awakening. For so long we ve been asleep. Let us know the love unceasing, which alone can loose the bonds. Reaching out across the chasms, bringing walls of hatred down. Let us taste the sweet communion, where the circle never ends. Hold us in the sweet connection, turning strangers into friends. Guide our feet in peaceful pathways. Teach us peace of heart and mind; peace with God and all God s children; till we leave our wars behind. Surely joy will come and find us like a breeze that cools the night; like the rain upon the desert; like a candle s gentle light. RESPONSE FROM THE NEWLY INSTALLED SENIOR MINISTER Marcus McFaul * HYMN Called as Partners in Christ s Service 453 BEECHER * BENEDICTION CHORAL RESPONSE God Be in my Head John Rutter God be in my head and in my understanding. God be in mine eyes and in my looking. God be in my mouth and in my speaking. God be in mine heart and in my thinking. God be at mine end and in my departing. Following Postlude, all are invited to gather in the Fellowship Hall for the reception.
