It s easy to understand today s scriptures as events that happened long ago and far away, or predictions that will come true somewhere, some day. But they invite us to claim Christ as our King here and now. Jesus words to Pilate in the Gospel remind us that his kingdom transcends time and place. And the prophecies from Daniel and Revelation give us reason to be faithful to Christ our King right here and right now. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only King over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. We ve already seen how on Saint Martin s Day, November 11, medieval continental Europe observed a great harvest day of Thanksgiving, with games, dances, parades, and a festive dinner of roast goose. With the goose went ample draughts of Saint Martin s Wine, the first wine of the new harvest. Martinmas celebrated full barns and larders stocked for the winter. Even after the Reformation, the tradition of eating goose on Saint Martin s Day was retained in Holland, and it was there that our Pilgrims encountered this tradition. When Governor Bradford sent four hunters out into the Massachusetts wilderness in the autumn of 1621, they did indeed find some geese and ducks, and were persuaded by the indigenous people to try turkey, too. Just as the liturgical calendar has been tweaked over the years, President Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving to the third Thursday in November in 1939, probably to extend the Christmas shopping season. The protest was so great that in 1941 the day established by President Lincoln, the last Thursday in November, was restored. Puede que entendamos las lecturas de hoy como acontecimientos que sucedieron hace mucho, mucho tiempo o predicciones que se harán realidad algún día en algún lugar. Pero en realidad nos invitan a aclamar a Cristo como nuestro Rey aquí y ahora. Las palabras de Jesús a Pilatos en el Evangelio nos recuerdan que su Reino trasciende el tiempo y el espacio. Y las profecías de Daniel y del Apocalipsis nos dan motivos para ser fieles a Cristo, nuestro Rey, aquí y ahora. Al terminar el año con esta fiesta proclamamos nuestra fe en que Jesucristo es el único Rey de todos los tiempos, pueblos y de toda la Creación. Chúng ta có thể dễ dàng hiểu được bài đọc hôm nay như những biến cố xảy ra từ xa xưa hoặc những lời tiên đoán đã thành hiện thực, nhưng bài đọc cũng mời gọi chúng ta tuyên xưng Đức Giêsu là Vua trong hiện tại. Ngài cho Philatô biết vương quốc của Ngài vượt thời gian và không gian. Những lời tiên tri từ sách Daniel và sách Khải Huyền đem đến hy vọng để chúng ta trung thành với Đức Kitô Vua trong hiện tại. Khi chúng ta mừng lễ Chúa Kitô Vua vào cuối năm phụng vụ, chúng ta tuyên xưng Ngài là Vua của mọi mùa, mọi người và mọi vật. NĂM PHỤNG VỤ Hội Thánh tưởng niệm toàn thể mầu nhiệm của Chúa Kitô qua thời gian một năm từ nhập thể, Giáng sinh đến Phục sinh, Thăng thiên, Hiện xuống, sự mong đợi hồng phúc và ngày Chúa lại đến (x. Hc. Pv. 102). Hội Thánh cử hành công trình cứu độ của Chúa Kitô qua chu kỳ một năm gọi là năm phụng vụ. Năm phụng vụ được cử hành như thế nào? Năm Phụng vụ kéo dài từ chúa nhật I mùa Vọng tới hết tuần lễ Chúa Kitô Vua, được sắp xếp như sau: - Mùa Vọng: gồm 4 Chúa nhật trước lễ Giáng sinh: chuẩn bị tâm hồn người tín hữu mừng mầu nhiệm Chúa xuống thế làm người. - Mùa Giáng sinh: từ lễ Chúa Giáng sinh đến lễ Chúa Giêsu chịu phép rửa: mừng kính chính mầu nhiệm nhập thể. - Mùa Chay: từ thứ tư lễ tro đến lễ vọng Phục sinh: chuẩn bị tâm hồn tín hữu đón mừng mầu nhiệm Tử nạn Phục sinh của Chúa Giêsu. Tuần lễ cuối cùng của mùa Chay là Tuần thánh, cử hành những biến cố cuối cùng cuộc đời trần gian của Chúa Giêsu. - Mùa Phục sinh: từ lễ vọng Phục sinh đến lễ Hiện xuống: mừng việc Chúa Kitô toàn thắng tội lỗi và tử thần. - Mùa thường niên: khoảng 34 tuần lễ, gồm 2 thời kỳ: + Từ sau mùa Giáng sinh đến đầu mùa chay + từ sau lễ Hiện xuống đến hết tuần lễ Chúa kitô vua. Hội Thánh dùng thời gian này giúp tín hữu sống mầu nhiệm cứu độ cách đầy đủ hơn. Ngoài ra, rải rác suốt năm Phụng vụ, Hội Thánh còn dành nhiều ngày lễ để: - Tôn kính cách đặc biệt Đức Maria (biệt tôn), Mẹ Thiên Chúa và Mẹ chúng ta. - Tôn kính thánh Giuse, các Thánh Tử đạo, các thánh khác là những đấng đã tới đỉnh cao trọn lành đáng nêu gương cho ta và rất thần thế cầu bầu cho ta trước tòa Chúa. Mùa Vọng Mùa Vọng có hai đặc tính: vừa là mùa chuẩn bị mừng lễ trọng Giáng sinh, trong lễ này, kính nhớ việc Con Thiên Chúa đến lần thứ nhất với loài người; vừa là mùa mà qua việc kính nhớ này, các tín hữu hướng lòng trông đợi Chúa Kitô đến lần thứ hai trong ngày tận thế. Vì hai lý do ấy, mùa Vọng được coi như mùa sốt sắng và hân hoan mong đợi. Mùa Vọng bắt đầu từ giờ kinh Chiều I ngày Chúa nhật nhằm ngày 30 tháng 11, hoặc nhằm ngày nào gần nhất, và kết thúc trước giờ kinh Chiều I lễ Chúa giáng sinh. Các Chúa nhật mùa này gọi là Chúa nhật I, II, III, IV mùa Vọng. Các ngày trong tuần từ 17 đến hết 24 tháng 12 nhằm chuẩn bị trực tiếp hơn mừng lễ Chúa Giáng Sinh. \
