CHRIST IS KING On the final Sunday of the liturgical year we celebrate the feast of Christ the King. It s easy to understand today s scriptures as events that happened long ago and far away, or predictions that will come true somewhere, some day. But they invite us to claim Christ as our King here and now. Jesus words to Pilate in the Gospel remind us that his kingdom transcends time and place. And the prophecies from Daniel and Revelation give us reason to be faithful to Christ our King right here and right now. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only King over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. No matter what nation we belong to or what language we speak, he has made us into a kingdom (Revelation 1:6) one people united in love and peace for all eternity. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Although our Puritan forebears at Plymouth Rock were almost a hundred years removed from their Catholic roots, the old liturgical calendar still had an unconscious claim on their hearts. We ve already seen how on Saint Martin s Day, November 11, medieval continental Europe observed a great harvest day of Thanksgiving, with games, dances, parades, and a festive dinner of roast goose. With the goose went ample draughts of Saint Martin s Wine, the first wine of the new harvest. Martinmas celebrated full barns and larders stocked for the winter. Even after the Reformation, the tradition of eating goose on Saint Martin s Day was retained in Holland, and it was there that our Pilgrims encountered this tradition. When Governor Bradford sent four hunters out into the Massachusetts wilderness in the autumn of 1621, they did indeed find some geese and ducks, and were persuaded by the indigenous people to try turkey, too. Just as the liturgical calendar has been tweaked over the years, President Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving to the third Thursday in November in 1939, probably to extend the Christmas shopping season. The protest was so great that in 1941 the day established by President Lincoln, the last Thursday in November, was restored. Here at St. Francis of Assisi we would like to work in cooperation with the Office of Restorative Justice at our Diocese to help coordinate the distribution of thousands of Christmas cards that are given each year to prisons in our Diocese. We are in need of boxes of new, unsigned Christmas cards (especially Spanish-language cards) which are then given to inmates to send home to their families. During this time, we ask for your help in showing our incarnated sisters and brothers that some people do care. Deadline is Friday, December 7, 2018 in order to meet the prisons deadlines. Please no cards that: are scented; contain glitter, tassels, ribbons, plastic, or pieces that can be removed; no musical cards. Please no cards requesting/requiring donations to an organization. If you are able to help, please drop off your Christmas Cards to the parish office thank you.

She is active in the Catholic Renewal of the Archdiocese of Miami, and has spoken at many conferences, in US and all over the world. Maria is part of Glory House of Miami, a safe haven for human trafficking victims. As founder of Glory to God Foundation, Maria is committed to making Jesus known to another nation by helping Pygmies in Kabale, Uganda build new houses, preaching the Gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit. Todos los derechos reservados. CRISTO ES REY El último domingo del año litúrgico celebramos la fiesta de Cristo Rey. Puede que entendamos las lecturas de hoy como acontecimientos que sucedieron hace mucho, mucho tiempo o predicciones que se harán realidad algún día en algún lugar. Pero en realidad nos invitan a aclamar a Cristo como nuestro Rey aquí y ahora. Las palabras de Jesús a Pilatos en el Evangelio nos recuerdan que su Reino trasciende el tiempo y el espacio. Y las profecías de Daniel y del Apocalipsis nos dan motivos para ser fieles a Cristo, nuestro Rey, aquí y ahora. Al terminar el año con esta fiesta proclamamos nuestra fe en que Jesucristo es el único Rey de todos los tiempos, pueblos y de toda la Creación. Sin importar cuál sea nuestra nacionalidad ni qué idioma hablemos: Cristo y ha hecho de nosotros un reino (Apocalipsis 1:6), en un pueblo unido en el amor y la paz por toda la eternidad. Copyright J. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE En 1917 México recibió una nueva Constitución en la cual se estableció una política de intolerancia religiosa, especialmente en contra de la Iglesia católica romana. Con el pasar de los años las normas anticlericales fueron puestas en vigor hasta el punto que algunos mexicanos piadosos y cristianos decidieron defender su religión. En marzo de 1925, estos mexicanos católicos fundaron la Liga Nacional para la Defensa de la Libertad Religiosa, en el mismo mes en que el papa Pío XI proclamó la Fiesta de Cristo Rey, celebrada el último domingo del año litúrgico. Inspirados por el grito de Viva Cristo Rey!, los fieles se convirtieron en Cristeros, muchos de los cuales dieron su vida por Cristo, demostrando así que Jesús es verdaderamente el Rey de sus vidas. La Cristiada duró sólo tres años en México y muchos sacerdotes, religiosas, religiosos, laicas y laicos dieron su vida para la gloria de Cristo Rey en México. Con el tiempo muchos cristianos y cristianas han debido repetir el martirio de los Cristeros en pases de Centro y Sudamérica. El siglo XX derramó mucha sangre cristiana en Latinoamérica. Hàng năm cứ vào thời điểm này, chúng ta lại bắt đầu nghĩ đến các ngày nghỉ lễ và những cách chúng ta có thể chia sẻ sự may mắn của chúng ta với những người chung quanh. Với sự hỗ trợ của các giáo dân trong giáo xứ, "Chương Trình Trao Quà Tặng" đã và đang giúp những tín hữu kém may mắn trong giáo xứ của chúng ta có đủ điều kiện để hưởng một kỳ nghỉ lễ đầy ý nghĩa. Trợ giúp thẻ quà tặng sẽ giúp những người nghèo có cơ hội lựa chọn quà tặng theo ý của họ nhân dịp Giáng Sinh sắp đến. Bắt đầu từ tuần này, giáo xứ sẽ nhận quyên góp để cùng 'trao quà tặng'. Giáo xứ gợi ý chúng ta mua mỗi thẻ quà tặng với giá trị $10. Ví dụ: nếu quý vị muốn ủng hộ $40 thì xin quý vị mua 4 thẻ quà tặng $10. Những nơi đề nghị mua thẻ quà tặng như: Target, Kohl, Walmart. Để biết thêm chi tiết xin vui lòng liên lạc văn phòng giáo xứ số hoặc gặp chị Yến Vũ sau thánh lễ Việt Nam. Nó là một lời mời gọi hãy sống chậm lại và chuẩn bị chính mình vì Đấng Cứu Thế, Đấng mà Sinh Nhật của Ngài sắp được chúng ta nhắc nhớ và ăn mừng một lần nữa. Để cho Mùa Vọng có ý nghĩa, chúng ta cần phải bắt đầu làm những điều này trước. Có một số việc có thể làm ngay từ bây giờ để chắc chắn những tuần sau đó sẽ có một Lễ Giáng Sinh thật thánh thiện và tràn đầy niềm vui, cho mình và những người thân yêu: Tập thói quen sắm sửa các thứ cần thiết cho lễ Giáng Sinh trước khi mùa Vọng bắt đầu. Chọn 1 hoặc 2 điều và quyết tâm thực hiện trong Mùa Vọng. Dành một ít thờ giờ cho việc thiêng liêng và tạo một khung cảnh cầu nguyện Cắt bớt những việc không cần thiết. Sắp xếp thời gian đi xưng tội Nghe nhạc thánh ca Mùa Vọng Việc bác ái, từ thiện.
