2 Saint Matthew Sunday Nursery Did you know that while you are at church your child (age 1 through 4) can be socializing; praying and having fun with children his/her own age. Our nursery is open for Sunday School Parents at 9am to be able to join Richard for the parent class and at 10am for Mass. We ask that you arrive at least 10 minutes before Mass begins to preregister for our new check in system. Questions? 3 MAY CROWNING Wednesday, May 2nd 6:30 P.M. - Praying of the Rosary + 7:00 P.M. - Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary The crowning is being organized by the Legion of Mary ministry. The evening will include scripture readings, traditional Marian hymns, and of course the crowning. This year, instead of inviting parishioners to bring flowers to place at the feet of Mary, we are asking people to bring pre-natal vitamins to place in baskets. By donating the vitamins to the Life Choice Pregnancy Center, this dimension of community service will add the strength and purpose to our devotion. Light refreshments will follow the service in the Parish Center. 4 Feed the Hungry Every Sunday from 12:30 2:00 p.m. different teams of parishioners gather together at the Disciples Corner, 197 W. Central Ave. in the parking lot of our Thrift/Gift Shop and pass out bags of food to those who are in need of something to eat. The 5 th Sunday of the month a hot meal is served. If you would like to join any of these teams on a particular weekend your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Once we achieve our goal, the majority of the additional funds will be returned to our parish to support our own special needs. One of the needs is that of new projectors in the church and improvement in our sound system that we will be able to use 1/3 of the additional funds for. 1/3 of the additional funds will be placed into an endowment fund held by The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida for the exclusive long-term use of our parish. 1/3 will be contributed to an endowment fund to support retired priests in our diocese. 7 St. Matthew Columbarium JUNE 9-13, 2018 A conference focused on how to be and make disciples in our day to day lives, centered on the scriptures found in The Gospel of St. Matthew Deacon Harold will preach at all the Masses and speak at all the conference presentations. THE BATTLE PLAN FOR PURITY Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. May 10 - July 12 The Conquer Series is a cinema c group study which every man should a end. Chains are being broken. Marriages are being restored. For the first me in history, a cinema c teaching series is here to offer men proven principles and prac cal tools to be a warrior and walk with sexual integrity. The Conquer Series men s small groups are designed to be a safe environment for men to receive sexual discipleship. With 68% of men in the church viewing porn on a regular basis, this is a course that every man should a end so you are equipped with the tools you need to help other men in this fight. This is a place where men can contend together, find support and acceptance. A typical Conquer Group is made up of 5 to 6 men, including the group leader. The se ng is casual. You will watch one DVD per week, discuss topics presented in the DVD, and be given a weekly mission to apply the lessons you ve learned from the Conquer Series. You will also receive a study guide which includes the tools that a man needs to finish strong. 8 Can I Say a Prayer with You? If you are in need of prayer our Prayer Ministers are available after all of our weekend Masses by the Holy Family Statue. We ask that you wait until the conclusion of the recessional Hymn before joining them by the Holy Family Statue. Again, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew 18:19-20 WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES & BIRTHDAYS On the 1st weekend of each month we will be inviting all who are celebrating a Sacramental Marriage, recognized by the Church, along with those who are celebrating their Birthday within the month to stand during the time of announcements AND receive a special Blessing. If you have not received a Birthday Card from Fr. O Brien within these past years, we do not have your birthdate on file. ATTENTION ALL TEENS! This Summer, (July 27-29) Saint Matthew s going to Steubenville Youth Conference in Orlando! We are inviting everyone who is in 8 th grade 12 th grade to join us for this life changing retreat! You do not have to be in our Faith Formation program to come along. The price of the trip will be $375 per student, but we are offering scholarships for those who may need financial assistance! Steubenville Youth Conference Sponsors We are looking for sponsors for our Teens Summer Retreat! We are planning on attending Steubenville Youth Conference in Orlando. All are welcome to volunteer, but you must get fingerprinted through the diocese of Orlando and go through the Safe Environment Training if you have not done so already. Altaration All teens are invited to join us for a new 5 week program called Altaration! Altaration is a program that teaches the beauty and mystery of the Mass! This will be a great follow up after our Living the Eucharist program that we did during Lent. Altaration is designed to stir thought, create conversation, dispel myths, and inspire young souls to a deep and lasting love for the Mass. The goal of Altaration is not to fill teens heads with information but to pierce their hearts with transformation. So be transformed and join us starting Wednesdays at 6pm, and bring a friend so they can learn about the Mass as well! Youth Night! Attention all Middle & High Schoolers! We d like to invite you all to come join us for some food, games, and fellowship on Thursday, April 26th at 6PM-8PM in the Parish Center. At this monthly youth night, we will be discussing our Blessed Mother, why she is so special, and other apologetics about Mary. If you haven t gone to a youth night with us yet, don t be afraid! It s all fun and games and a whole lot of Jesus! So bring a friend and be ready for an awesome night. 9 MUSIC MINISTRY NOTES The Easter Season Continues: With a huge collective sigh, Music Ministers around the world are wiping their brows and taking a minute to catch their breath after the monumental task of putting together the liturgies of Lent, Holy Week, and Easter. And with that very breath, we turn to thank the very choir members who stood beside us every step of the way, with their own tireless dedication, devotion, time, and talents. The Adult Choir, Rock & Rejoice Youth Ensemble and Junior Choir all played a part, and we were blessed by their efforts. Please help us to thank them for their commitment and ministry! Why do we have just a minute do catch our breath? Well, the liturgical season continues to march on, and the Easter Season continues with several important and beautiful feasts just on the horizon. Important Feast Bring the Season to a Close: First, we have six wonderful weeks to celebrate the Joy of the Resurrection. On the Seventh Sunday of Easter, May13th, we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. The following weekend, May 20 th, is the Solemnity of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles, bringing the Easter season to a close. Without skipping a weekend, we celebrate Trinity Sunday on May 27 th, and the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) on June 3 rd. First Holy Communion will take place at all Masses this weekend, and the Corpus Christi procession will take place after the 10:30 AM Mass on that day. Keep watch for more details on how you may participate in this joyful procession! All choirs will continue weekly rehearsals through the Feast of Corpus Christi and into June. Stand Firm with Mary Free Marian Retreat (Offered by the Couples for Christ Ministry) May 12th 12:00-5:00 p.m. You are invited to spend time in prayer and fellowship during a Marian Devotion Retreat on Saturday, May the 12 th from 12 noon to 5:30 PM at the Parish Hall. Praying the Holy Rosary Veneration of the image of the Blessed Virgin flower offering to the Queen of May, and a commemoration reminiscent of Our Lady of Fatima apparition will be some of the activities that will be observed that day. The day will include two teaching sessions covering 1.The Story of Fatima, and 2.Standing Firm with Mary A free lunch and snack is served during the event. 11 HƠN 30,000 TÂN KITÔ HỮU Hội Đồng Giám Mục Hoa Kỳ cho biết: Theo các báo cáo sơ khởi của 85 trong tổng số gần 200 giáo phận tại Hoa Kỳ, hơn 30,000 người đã được đón nhận vào Giáo Hội Công Giáo tại Hoa Kỳ trong đêm Vọng Phục sinh 31 tháng Ba năm nay Những người ngoại giáo (catechumens) đã lãnh nhận Bí tích Khai Tâm: được rửa tội, được rước lễ lần đầu và được ban phép thêm sức.
