3 TRUE STEWARDSHIP The gospel message proclaimed throughout the New Testament invites us to live in harmony with the world. This is a challenge to care for the world and be stewards of all that God has given us. Like generations before us, we are entrusted with the care of the earth so that generations to follow may enjoy the same gifts. Sometimes, however, we are absorbed into the ways of the world. When we are of the world, we rely heavily on the power of wealth, beauty, fame, and accumulation of material possessions. We want earthly possessions and carelessly turn our hearts from the responsibilities of stewardship and conservation. The readings today challenge us to walk away from the world so that we might inherit our share of God s kingdom. How we live our lives directly reflects our love for God. We wish to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who financially, spiritually, and selflessly support St. Barbara Church throughout the year. Your gifts of time and talent across all the ministries of the Parish help to build up the Church and make our world a better place. Have a blessed Thanksgiving! November 22, Page 3 TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION For good reason, Americans have been ambivalent about kings for many years, even long before George III s troops were sent packing in To say Christ is our King is to make a statement not about our politics, but about the dignity of our own identity. At our baptism, the crown of our head was once slathered (or at last dabbed) with oil while the Church prayed as Christ was anointed priest, prophet and king, so may you live always as his body. To celebrate Christ s kingship, then, is to claim our own identity. Your head was anointed just as Samuel poured oil over David s head. David had his gifts, but he was no prize, and perhaps that might comfort you as you think about your call, out of the messiness of your own life, to stretch into a lifestyle that is marked by worship, by prophetic speech and deeds, and the kingly ability to fashion a world (or at least a patch of it) where relationships are marked by justice, mercy, and cultivation of the good. It is precisely because of this kingly role that our faith community has something to say about the environment, Rev. 5 Chúa Nhật 34 Thường Niên B: Ga 18,33b-37) Lễ Chúa Kitô Vua Ðứng Về Phía Sự Thật Từ sau vụ nổ big-bang, vũ trụ được thành hình, và càng ngày càng bành trướng. Trái đất chỉ là một hạt bụi nhỏ xíu trong vũ trụ, nhưng nó lại lớn lao vô cùng,vì là hành tinh được Thiên Chúa yêu thương và cứu chuộc. Con Thiên Chúa đã ghi dấu chân mình trên mặt đất, đã sống trọn phận người bên cạnh nhân loại anh em. Mừng lễ Ðức Giêsu Kitô là Vua vũ trụ, chúng ta được mời gọi ngắm nhìn trái đất tròn. Ðây là vũ trụ của hơn 6 tỉ người đang sống. Vũ trụ này sẽ đi về đâu? Lịch sử này sẽ đi về đâu? Tất cả sẽ được hội tụ và biến đổi nơi Ðức Kitô, để rồi Ngài sẽ dâng lại tất cả cho Thiên Chúa Cha. Tuy Ðức Giêsu không nói rõ mình là vua, cũng không chịu để dân chúng tôn vương mình, nhưng Ngài lại nói nhiều về Nước của Ngài. Nước của Vua Giêsu là Nước của sự thật. Sống theo sự thật chẳng bao giờ dễ dàng. Kẻ trung thực thường thua thiệt, lại bị coi là dại dột. Sự dối trá nhiều khi được coi là khôn ngoan. Người ta dối trá một cách trơn tru, không chút áy náy."ai đứng về phía sự thật thì nghe tiếng tôi". Chúng ta không nghe được tiếng Chúa, chỉ vì ta sợ sự thật, sợ nói thật, sợ sống thật, như Philatô muốn giữ ghế ngồi hơn là cứu người vô tội. Lương tâm bị băng hoại, lòng tin vào nhau bị đổ vỡ. Cuối cùng chính chúng ta là nạn nhân của mình, của một thế giới xây dựng trên những đồ giả. Mừng lễ Ðức Giêsu Kitô là Vua vũ trụ, ta đặt mình trước một thế giới bề bộn bao vấn đề: ô nhiễm môi trường, tăng dân số, aids, thất nghiệp, ma tuý, mafia, tham nhũng, nghèo đói, lạc hậu, bất công..thế lực của sự dữ và tội ác có vẻ thắng thế, ích kỷ, hận thù, bạo lực tung hoành khắp nơi. Chúng ta không chỉ cầu xin cho Nước Chúa mau đến, mà còn đưa tinh thần Ðức Kitô vào mọi cơ cấu trần gian: chính trị, xã hội, nghệ thuật, giáo dục, thể thao, giải trí...càng làm cho sự thật và tình yêu thắng thế thì Nước Chúa càng lớn dần lên cho đến lúc thành tựu viên mãn vào ngày tận thế. Xin Ðức Giêsu làm vua cả vũ trụ loài người nhờ làm vua tiểu vũ trụ là cõi lòng từng Kitô hữu. Xin cho chúng con biết cộng tác với Chúa xây dựng một thế giới yêu thương và công bằng, vui tươivà hạnh phúc,để ngày Chúa đến thực là một ngày vui trọn vẹn cho mọi người và cho cả vũ trụ. Xin nuôi dưỡng nơi chúng con niềm tin vững vàng và niềm hy vọng nồng cháy, để tất cả những gì chúng con làm đều nhằm chuẩn bị cho ngày Chúa trở lại.
