Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, he said aloud. Likewise, with his empty fishing nets dramatically filled at Jesus instruction, Peter fell to his knees and cried out, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man. Next, Peter got up. He docked his boats then left to follow Jesus. Isaiah also had a dramatic change of heart. When he heard the Lord say, Whom shall I send? Who will go for us? Isaiah answered, Here I am, send me. We are summoned daily by the Risen Lord. We are reminded of the saving power of the gospel and know in our heart of hearts that, as St. Paul wrote, believing in anything else won t lead to anything. What will it take for you to move past your sinfulness? What will it take for you to get off your knees? Donate Today! TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The Reign of God comes about because people commit to reversing their lives completely, to embracing new vision, new values. Many popular television shows exploit an unattractive side of human nature by pitting contestants against one another, even to the point of performing dangerous stunts or devious schemes, to gain money or favor. At the liturgy, we counter that impulse by committing ourselves to live generously. In response to Christ s total gift, we offer bread and wine as the emblems of our lives, our hopes, our joys and sorrows. The bread and wine carried to the altar contain our lives, and by offering our lives to God, we prepare to receive the gift of God s own life. We are to become what we receive: the body of Christ. On Sundays, this self giving is often accompanied by a collection and procession of gifts for the poor and money for the upkeep of the parish. There are certainly other methods of collecting money, some perhaps more efficient. Yet the act of giving from our abundance, and attending to the needs of the poor, opens us up to participation in the changes the Reign of God requires. James Field, Copyright J. S. Estos cuentos también se escuchaban en el Valle del Río Grande de Texas, donde me crié. Confieso que me fascinaban y asustaban esas misteriosas leyendas, así como los relatos de santas y santos que levitan, tienen visiones, escuchan voces celestiales o chorrean sangre de llagas que recuerdan las llagas de Cristo en la cruz. He escuchado el llanto de la Llorona, y me parece haber visto la mano negra. Sé que mi carro se movió solo en un lugar donde murieron unos niños sobre un autobús escolar. Los latinos sabemos que hay muchas cosas que no se pueden explicar, simplemente se vive con el misterio. Y a quien no le atrae un buen misterio? El sentido del misterio nos atrae y nos intimida en el misticismo de los santos cristianos. Ellos nos recuerdan que hay mucho sagrado e inexplicable que penetra nuestras vidas cotidianas. Thánh Lễ và Tiệc Tân Niên Của Cộng Đoàn: 4:00 chiều Thứ Bảy ngày 16 tháng 2 năm Tay trong Tay Phục Vụ là chủ đề chương trình Giáo Phận Quyên Góp Hàng Năm năm 2019 của chúng ta. Chỉ Chúa mới có thể làm trái tim ông say mê một Ai khác, yêu một Ai đó hơn những người ông đã từng yêu. Đức Giêsu đã đến với Simon thật tự nhiên. Ngài chọn thuyền của ông làm nơi giảng dạy. Sau đó Ngài mời ông thả lưới bắt cá, Simon có nhiều lý do để khước từ. Ông có thể nhân danh kinh nghiệm của mình để thấy tốt hơn nên chờ dịp khác, hay nại lý do mệt mỏi, sau một đêm ra khơi. Nhưng Simon đã vâng lời, chỉ vì tin Lời Thầy Giêsu, Lời đầy quyền uy, Lời trừ được quỷ (Lc 4,30). Lời mạnh mẽ đã chữa cho mẹ ông khỏi bệnh (4,39). Mẻ cá lạ lùng, mẻ cá chỉ có trong mơ. Mẻ cá làm Simon run rẩy nhận ra mình tội lỗi, và nhận ra Đấng ở gần bên. Mẻ cá bất ngờ mở đường cho một lời mời gọi mới: "Đừng sợ, từ nay anh sẽ thành kẻ bắt người." Simon lại có nhiều lý do hơn để từ chối. Chuyện gia đình bề bộn, tương lai bấp bênh. Kẻ quen bắt cá đâu có khả năng bắt người. Kẻ tội lỗi đâu xứng với sứ mạng. Nhưng một lần nữa, Simon dám tin vào Lời Chúa, để cho Chúa tự do lôi kéo mình. Ông đã bỏ lại bao điều ông yêu mến. Khi bỏ lại hai thuyền đầy cá, ông tin rằng những mẻ cá mới đang đợi ông. Chúa vẫn gọi tôi ra khỏi lối mòn quen thuộc, khỏi những điều tưởng như không thể đổi. Tôi có sẵn sàng lên đường theo Ngài không?
