SACRAMENTS : Confessions: Monday to Friday before 8AM Mass Saturday 4:00 PM. All other times by appointment. Baptisms: Baptisms will take place the 3 rd Sunday of the month at 1:30 PM. An instructional class is required for all parents & Godparents and will be held the 2 nd Wednesday of the month, at 8PM in the Church. Parents should call the rectory to arrange the celebration. Marriages: Reserve and register date & time as soon as possible, at least six months in advance of the wedding. Pre-Cana and other instructional sessions are required for all couples. Ministry to the Sick: Sick calls and Communion calls on the First Friday of the month. Please call the Rectory.

Klocek met with Bishop Di Marzio this past week and it was determined that Saint Josaphat s Church will remain open as a fully functioning parish with its original goal to serve the Polish people. Going forward, our Mass schedule will remain the same. The 2018 Mass Book will reopen on Tuesday, February 13th at 9:15 am in the Rectory Basement for anyone that would like to reserve Masses for the remainder of On Sunday, February 4, we celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life. We recognize and give thanks for those who have consecrated their lives to God and the Church through vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Some join a religious congregation as sisters, brothers or religious priests. Some join a secular institute. Others remain single and make profession to God through the local bishop and are known as consecrated virgins. May the light of Christ shine brightly through men and women who choose the consecrated life to live out their baptismal commitment, especially those who serve in the Diocese of Brooklyn now or who have been part of our history. St. Padre Pio Mass & Devotion Tuesday, February 6th, PM Holy Hour Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Recitation of the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Benediction, & Confessions. 8PM-Mass Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group Mass in Spanish on Wednesday, February 7th at 8PM. All are welcome to join us. The second season of Arise, Change Our Hearts, will begin on Sunday, Feb 18 at 1:00 PM. An additional session will also be held on Tuesday, February 20 at 7:00PM. The program runs for 6 weeks and is excellent preparation for Easter! Parish Community News & Events The Right-to-Life Committee thanks you for supporting our Precious Feet Campaign. Because of you, we are now able to add $556 to our funds that will be used for a special cause which, of course, will benefit the rights of the unborn child...a most precious gift. The 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal is coming to a close. If you still have a pledge balance, please complete your pledge payments as soon as possible. Your financial support is greatly appreciated. On behalf of Fr. Andrzej Klocek, our Pastor, and our Parish staff, thank you for supporting your neighbors in the Dioceses of Brooklyn, as well as around the world. Every gift is important and appreciated. Saint Josaphat s goal for 2017 is $23,540. To date only 56 parishioners have contributed $16,380. 4 Parish Community News & Events Lenten Regulations: In keeping with Pope Francis exhortation, our Diocesan Bishop, Nicholas DiMarzio, in order to assist the faithful of the Diocese of Brooklyn to take full advantage of the Lenten season, would like to remind us of the following: ABSTINENCE All the faithful who have reached 14 years of age are required to abstain totally from meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent. FASTING All the faithful between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This practice involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may also be taken on two other occasions during the day. EASTER DUTY After they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, all the faithful are bound by the obligation of receiving Holy Communion at least once a year. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season, unless for a good reason it is fulfilled at another time of the year. By special indult, in the United States, the time period for fulfilling this precept has been extended to include the period beginning the First Sunday of Lent (February 18th) to the celebration of the Most Holy Trinity (May 27th). The following also should be noted: The obligation to observe, as a whole or substantially, the penitential days specified by the Church, is a serious one. Days of penance are not merely individual exercises they are observed by the whole Church, as the Body of Christ. After having reached the age of discretion, members of the faithful are bound to confess once a year grave sins which have not already been absolved. The faithful are encouraged to celebrate the sacraments of the Eucharist and penance frequently during the Lenten season. Reading the Scriptures, prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, generosity toward the poor and the needy are additional means of becoming more involved in the Lenten season. Pastors and parents are responsible to see that young persons, who are not bound to the above requirements, are educated in an authentic sense of penance. All other Fridays of the year remain as days of penance in prayerful remembrance of the Passion of Jesus Christ. The Bishops of the United States have recommended abstinence from meat as a penance for all Fridays of the year, although each individual may substitute for that tradition some other practice of voluntary self-denial or personal penance.
