4 November 18, 2018 The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mark Page 4 Thought for the Week As Americans, we have so much for which we can be thankful. This Thursday we will gather and share a meal, expressing our thanks for all our blessings, and for all we have in this wonderful country. We are not a perfect country by any means, but there is no other place on earth that provides the freedoms we have. When we say grace, let s ask the Lord to guide and bless each one of us, and our leaders, so that we can continue to be a nation that is a model for other nations. Let charity be our beacon for all other nations. The Eucharist Do you know that people have died protecting the Eucharist? No one would do this if the Eucharist were just a memory of what Jesus did at the Last Supper. When we receive Holy Communion we receive Jesus completely His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. What a gift he gives us every time we receive the Eucharist! (Let s pray that we can believe this more every time we receive Communion.) Words from Pope Francis Let us ask our Lady to help us recognize that everything is God s gift, and to be able to say, Thank you. Then our joy will be complete. Only those who know how to say, Thank you, will experience the fullness of joy. Respect Life A society will be judged on the basis of how it treats its weakest members; and among the most vulnerable are surely the unborn and the dying. (Pope John Paul II May, 25, 2000) A Scripture to Ponder Let them give thanks to the LORD for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind, for He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Psalm 107: 8-9 Thanks to our Memorial Mass Bakers Thanks to all of our St. Mark s Bakers, we had more than enough goodies for hospitality after our annual Memorial Mass. That homemade touch meant so much to the families recovering from the loss of their loved one. It was a very touching evening, enhanced by your personal touch. Thank you!!

Despite his profound impact on the events of the unfolding century, you won t find this story in your history books. In this episode, we discovered the man, Maximillian Kolbe, and his own Marian mission before his martyrdom at Auschwitz.
6 November 18, 2018 The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mark Page 6 FAITH FORMATION relform@verizon.net Lynn Fein, Director Registration for our Catechetical Year continues. It is certainly not too late and we are always happy to welcome you back or to welcome any newcomers. Please visit the Faith Formation Office to register your child. We are also always happy to take registrations following our Sunday s 9:30 Mass. Upon registering, families will be provided with details concerning our new online registration fee payment. Children entering first grade in September should be registered now to begin the two year preparation for the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Children then continue with each level, growing in their faith and love of the Lord. The schedule for our Faith Formation classes is very family friendly, offering both afternoon and evening times for each level. We are always happy to hear from any families who would like to find out more about our parish offerings which enable the children, teens, parents and grandparents opportunities to increase their faith and grow closer to the Lord. We offer weekly formation for children and teens, a Liturgy of the Word for children at our 9:30 Sunday Mass year round, preparation for the sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation, a summer Vacation Bible Camp, a Youth Group and Youth Masses followed by get-togethers for seventh through twelfth graders, service opportunities for our young people, discussion and sharing for parents and grandparents and seasonal events for the entire parish. If your child has any special needs at all we will work with you to provide the very best learning environment. We are also happy to welcome any families with children who may have been delayed in receiving the sacraments. You are invited to call or the Faith Formation Office to discover the many ways your family can be involved, or to register your children for our classes. Please spread the word to any families of children in first grade that now is the time to begin their child s two year preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist following Diocesan policies. All of our children in Level 1 attend our Liturgy of the Word for children at our 9:30 Mass and participate in monthly get-togethers with their parents. The parents also attend several parent meetings which invite them to learn about our faith and engage more fully in the life of the parish. The faith of the families was so clearly evident at our recent Level 1 Parent-Child Enrollment Ceremony. We hope our parishioners will make plans to attend our annual North Shore Clericus Thanksgiving Service being held this year on Sunday, November 18 at St. Anthony s in Rocky Point. Our service begins at 3 p.m. Reverend John McGinty from (Faith Formation Continued) St. Anselm s Episcopal Church in Shoreham will be the homilist. As the members of the churches, which comprise the North Shore Clericus join together to give thanks to the Lord for his many blessings, may we be cognizant of the faith we share through our Baptism in Christ and through our devotion to Scripture. SAINT MARK S YOUTH MINISTRY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN 7 TH THROUGH 12 TH GRADES FAITH FORMATION DIRECTOR MRS. Our next Youth Mass is on Saturday, December 15 at 5 p.m. We will come together in the parish center following Mass for pizza and activities.

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:10-11) Our Giving Tree has been a tradition at St. Mark s for many years. Many Christmas mornings have been brightened because of the love and generosity of our parishioners. Thank you for taking a tag from the tree and providing a gift for a very thankful child or adult.
