4 June 26, 2016 The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mark Page 4 Thought for the Week Knowing that intercessory prayer is our mightiest weapon and the supreme call for all Christians today, I pleadingly urge our people everywhere to pray. Believing that prayer is the greatest contribution that our people can make in this critical hour, I humbly urge that we take time to pray really pray.let us pray for ourselves that we may not lose the word concern out of our Christian vocabulary. Let us pray for our nation. Let us pray for those who have never known Jesus Christ and His redeeming love, for moral forces everywhere, for our national leaders. Let prayer be our passion. Let prayer be our practice. ( General Robert E. Lee -1863) Respect Life Prayer Lord, look with love on all those who choose to adopt a child. Bless them for their generous desire to give a child a loving home. (Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day) The Eucharist From the Eucharist comes the strength to live the Christian life and the zeal to share that life with others. (St. John Paul II) Words from Pope Francis In Jesus, God became Emmanuel, God-with-us, the God who walks alongside us, who gets involved in our lives, in the midst of our pots and pans, as St. Teresa of Jesus liked to say. Consoling the Heart of Jesus Retreat Jesus, I Trust in You! What hurts Jesus the most? Was it the nails that were driven into His wrists and feet? Was it his vision of future serious sins such as murder and adultery? Jesus gives the answer in the diary of St. Faustina when He told her that what hurts Him the most is when people distrust Him. How do we show Jesus that we trust Him? How can we build our trust in Jesus? The way to do it is to foster within yourself an attitude of praise and thanksgiving. Pray often the prayer Jesus gave to us, especially in times of uncertainty or trial. (continued)

8 June 26, 2016 The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mark Page 8 GRATITUDE AND GOODBYE TO ST. MARK S COMMUNITY Brothers and sisters, my heart is full of tears saying goodbye, words can never exhaustively express my inner most feelings as we part from each other. Believe me my love for you is so immense and boundless as the ocean. I feel profoundly sad to leave this beautiful community that is full of affection and kindness not only for me but for everyone. You have touched my life with every aspect of virtue. You are amazing and a wonderful community of life and love. I was lucky to serve you with commitment and dedication. Just know that I have loved you dearly more dearly than the spoken word can tell. There are times in life when one has to say goodbye to people and places he or she loves. Life is full of partings and it has to happen at some point in time whether it is short or long, parting is inevitable and we have to accept it. Humanly speaking, saying goodbye and leaving a place I have called home away from home for two years is the most difficult thing to do, but I have to do God s will. Though it may be harder for the person leaving, but it is always hardest for the people being left behind which I think you do and I understand it. How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard and difficult to express, it is because I have loved you tremendously with every piece of me. I cannot truly say goodbye to you friends for the memories we have made will last a life time and never knows goodbye. But I know that nothing makes the earth seem so spacious has to have friends at a distance for they make latitudes and longitudes. Goodbye always hurts whether it is the right thing to do or not and the reason why it hurts so much to part from one another is because our souls are connected in Jesus Christ. One thing I know is that this goodbye is not forever and it is not the end, but it simply means, I will miss you until we meet again. Don't be dismayed at my goodbye for it is necessary before we can meet again after moments, days, weeks, months and years which is actually certain for those who are friends. Goodbye makes one to think of opportunities experienced, opportunities lost and opportunities taken for granted. Well, I was not a perfect priest, probably you didn't understand me well or my homilies were a bit longer, but that didn't matter anyway what mattered most is the love of Christ we joyfully shared together. I learnt a lot from your witnessing of Christ through word and deed and I suppose you also learnt a lot from me. My special thanks goes to our Pastor Msgr. Jeff Madley, Deacon Pat and the staff whom we worked together harmoniously ministering to the people of God here in St Mark s. Thanks also to our ministries such as: Religious formation & teachers, Catechists, Office manager, Secretary, Outreach, Consolation ministers, PBJ, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters of America, Music group, altar Servers, cooks, maintenance man (Jim), social committee, Acts and everyone. If I forgot someone please forgive me. They're wonderful people and may God bless the work of your hands. I ask for your prayers and blessings as I begin my new assignment. You are welcome to Notre Dame to visit, call, or write a card to me. Invite me for your ceremonies and celebrations and I will honor if I have time. For all the mountains and valleys in the world cannot separate friends whose hearts are as one. Keep in touch and God bless you all. With love and prayer. Fr. Melly Amazingly, yesterday afternoon this extraordinary guest came inches closer to me with tail raised saying goodbye to me. I was humbled.
9 June 26, 2016 The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mark Page 9 Farewell Fr. Melly All are invited to join us on Sunday, June 26th after the 11:30 am Mass as we gather in the Parish Center to express our good wishes and thanks to Father Melly May the Lord bless & keep you on your new assignment.
10 June 26, 2016 The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mark Page 10 MUSIC NOTES As our music groups wind down for the summer, I'd like to express my deepest gratitude to them for serving our parish community all year long. Thank you to John Aloisio and the Contemporary Ensemble for faithfully singing at the 9:30 Sunday Mass. The musical vibrancy they bring to the liturgy is much appreciated! Many thanks also to the Adult Choir who sing at the 11:30 Sunday. Their faithful dedication is truly inspiring! The Children's Choir will also be taking their summer break. Their enthusiasm always brings special warmth when they sing at the 9:30 Mass on the third Sunday of each school month! Our Teen Choir has been wonderful throughout the year. We bid farewell to Teen Choir Leader, Gina Mingoia, who is graduating from high school this month. However, I'm thrilled that she will be remaining with the Music Ministry as one of our newest Cantors. Thank you, Gina, for sharing your musical gifts with our parish! In September, Jennifer Searing will be our Teen Choir Leader and assisting her will be Alyssa Arbuiso. You will be seeing more of these young ladies because they, too, will serve as Cantors during the summer. Thank you to our Cantors who will be serving as Song Leaders at the Masses during the summer. Through their musical leadership, they help to bring us to the presence of God during the liturgy! If you've thought about joining the Music Ministry, prayerfully reflect over it during the summer months and consider joining one of our music groups when they resume in September. Please feel free to call me for more info or with any questions at (631) or me at To all our musicians, I offer this Musician's Prayer: Creator God, you hear us in our words of prayer, in our silent thoughts and pleas, and in each note and melody we sing and play. May our sung praises connect with heaven and unite our hearts with the sound of eternity. Lord, may the gift of our voices and melodies of our instruments move with the work of your Holy Spirit. May we bring light into dark places, restore hope and vision to all who are oppressed, and well-being and health to all those who suffer. Father, we give you worship. Help us not only to focus on how to develop our creativity, but also to seek the wisdom to use our skills to your glory, and for building up of your kingdom and of the people we serve. Remind us of your faithful covenant and renew us, we pray, according to your steadfast love. Amen. Lastly, we bid farewell to Fr. Melly and we extend our best wishes to him as he moves on to his next assignment in Notre Dame Parish in New Hyde Park. May God richly bless him as he begins this new chapter in his priestly life. Also, in the coming days, our new Associate pastor, Fr. Tom Tuite, will be arriving and we warmly welcome him to St. Mark s! Till next time, keep singing, Carrie Logan
