A number of people have complimented us on the new lights in the parking lot. They were necessary because the wiring underground had deteriorated since the 1970 s and no longer worked. The lights were $48,500, the paving was $7,200, and the dumpsters (to take away the old lighting fixtures) were $2000. There are envelopes in the back of the church marked parking lot lights. Anything you can give would be appreciated. Thanks. Tomorrow we remember Martin Luther King, Jr. a man who preached tolerance. We can imitate his tolerance in the world around us by treating everyone with respect. The Rosary is our most powerful tool to defend us from any kind of evil, and support us in troubling times. Let s give our petitions to our Mother Mary, who brings all our prayers to Jesus. We ask for the sanctification of our beloved Church, and the unification of our nation. Jesus loves to answer the prayers offered by His Mother! Jesus, we trust in you! The Eucharist At the Eucharist, Jesus accepts us into His company (from the Latin cum and panis really bread-sharers!), and by being there and eating and drinking with our fellow Christians we accept them into our company. We become the community of the companions of the Lord, sharing together the Bread of Life Himself. (Is Jesus Really Present in the Eucharist?) Words from Pope Francis Love is the measure of faith. Respect Life I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character. It is certainly not too late and we are always happy to welcome you back or to welcome any newcomers. Please contact the Faith Formation Office to register your child. We are also always happy to take registrations following our Sunday s 9:30 Mass. Upon registering, families will be provided with details concerning our new online registration fee payment. Children who are currently in First Grade should be registered now to begin the two year preparation for the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Children then continue with each level, growing in their faith and love of the Lord. The schedule for our Faith Formation classes is very family friendly, offering both afternoon and evening times for each level. We are always happy to hear from any families who would like to find out more about our parish offerings which enable the children, teens, parents and grandparents opportunities to increase their faith and grow closer to the Lord. We offer weekly formation for children and teens, a Liturgy of the Word for children at our 9:30 Sunday Mass year round, preparation for the sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation, a summer Vacation Bible Camp, a Youth Group and Youth Masses followed by get-togethers for seventh through twelfth graders, service opportunities for our young people, discussion and sharing for parents and grandparents and seasonal events for the entire parish. If your child has any special needs at all we will work with you to provide the very best learning environment. We are also happy to welcome any families with children who may have been delayed in receiving the sacraments. You are invited to call or the Faith Formation Office to discover the many ways your family can be involved, or to register your children for our classes. As we celebrate Church Unity Sunday this weekend, please welcome one of the congregants from St. Anselm s Episcopal Church who will extend greetings from their pastor, Reverend John McGinty and all of their parishioners. The representative will read a statement on Christian Unity, as well as lead us in a litany for this special day when we are reminded of our unity through Baptism, Scripture and our faith in Christ Jesus. St. Anselm s Church will also welcome a speaker from our parish. Our Catechists will be gathering in the Music Room of the parish center for prayer and ongoing formation on Wednesday, January 23 at 7 p.m. and Friday, January 25 at 10 a.m. These inspiring women, men and teens and I thank all of the parishioners for their continued prayers for our ministry. (Faith Formation Continued) Our Level 5 children and their families will be celebrating their level Mass on Sunday, January 27 at 9:30 followed by hospitality in the parish center. Any girl or boy wishing to lector at the Mass should attend a practice on Friday, January 25 at 5 p.m. in the church. Our Reconciliation prayer service for the Level 2 children and their parents will take place on Saturday, January 26 at 2 p.m. As Fathers Jeff, Tom and Mickey provide the Lord s mercy and forgiveness to the girls and boys and their parents, may they be transformed and comforted by this beautiful healing sacrament and gift from God. Please join me in thanking our Level 2 Catechists-Gretchen Alessi, Lisa Geraghty, Roseann Segura and Ann Marie Yantsos-who along with the parents have prepared the children for this spirit filled moment. SAINT MARK S YOUTH MINISTRY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN 7 TH THROUGH 12 TH GRADES FAITH FORMATION DIRECTOR MRS. LYNN FEIN OR relform@verizon.net Our Youth group meets on Mondays from 7 to 8:30 in our parish center. Our next gatherings will be on January 28 th ; February 4, 11 and 25 and March 4, 11, 18 and 25. We invite all young people from seventh through twelfth grades to join us and to bring a friend, as we share about our faith through discussions, activities and service projects. We are so truly grateful to everyone who continues to keep our youth leaders and the young people in their prayers. One of our special Youth Masses will be celebrated on Saturday, February 9 at 5 p.m. The Teen Choir always leads us in song and our young people serve as lectors for the Mass. A get-together with pizza, snacks, drinks and activities always follows in the parish center. Our get-togethers following Mass are open to the youth of our parish as well as their families.
