FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME God s Restlessness Job 7:1-4, 6-7 Job spoke, My days come to an end without hope. Almost everyone experiences depression. Some people struggle with it throughout their lives. Others have days or months when life seems hopeless. No one in the Bible experienced despair as much as Job. Job lost his livestock, his servants, his children and their homes due to the forces of nature and enemy troops. In swift succession, Job lost everything that was dear to him. At first, Job accepts this. He knows he came into the world with nothing and will leave this world with nothing. What he has belongs to God. God determines whether or not Job will keep it: The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. But later, as the reality of his loss sinks in, Job experiences despair. I have been assigned months of misery, and troubled nights have been allotted to me, he says. My days come to an end without hope. I shall not see happiness again. When we experience those emotions we may feel far from God. The security we once felt in God s presence departs. But Job s raw emotions appear uncensored in the Bible and in the Sunday readings. All human experience finds its place under the mantle of God s farseeing care. Even depression. Stewardship Reflection Like St. Paul in the second reading, the good steward can say, I do all that I do for the sake of the Gospel in the hope of sharing in its blessings. 1 Corinthians 9:23 Question of the Week How do you define your purpose in life? 3 FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SVDP s weekly food collection is for mashed potatoes, ravioli s, Spaghetti O s, pudding, Jell-o, baking mixes, Tuna Helper, corned beef hash and any other non perishable food item is greatly appreciated. We are also in need of Kleenex, laundry soap, dish soap, cleaning supplies and any personal hygiene products. We thank you for your continued generous support!! Together we do make a difference! RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CANCELLATION POLICY: If schools in Plymouth are closed or dismissed early due to inclement weather, religious education classes are cancelled. If after the children arrive home and weather conditions become a problem, we encourage parents to first call the Religious Education office at , extension 206 and, as always, we encourage parents to use their own judgment if conditions are dangerous in your area. HOSPITALIZED? We will be holding a subscription drive next week for new subscriptions to The Pilot. Please be sure to take a copy of The Pilot as you leave Church. Kateri Newsletter A second parish newsletter is being planned for this spring. The newsletter staff invites parishioners to offer their ideas for things they might like to see in future issues. Any suggestions may be deposited in a suggestion box that will be located in the foyer. PARISH CENTER CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE In the eight or nine weeks since Commitment Weekend, we have received pledges totaling very nearly half of the goal of $650,000. We have been moved by the generosity of the families and individuals who have pledged, and by their willingness to make Blessed Kateri one of their priorities, particularly during the challenging economic times that have affected all of us. We are encouraged by this initial response and remain confident that we can be successful in our effort to create the facilities that our parish community has needed and dreamt about for so long. We can do this. Together, we have met and overcome incredible challenges in the not too distant past. As in the past, we need to rally together as a community. We need everyone to do what they can, to make an equal sacrifice, if not an equal gift. We need your help. Please consider making your pledge now. On Friday, February 13 th, St. Peter s Parish will host Ultreya at 7:30 PM. All who have lived Cursillo are invited to this evening of prayer and sharing. Refreshments will be served. A Guide for Preparing Funeral Liturgies is a booklet put together by our Liturgy Committee and is available in the vestibule to take home.
