1 Saint John The Evangelist June 24, 2018 Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist Dear St. John s Community, Last Sunday s outdoor Mass and BBQ was a success!! It was so wonderful to see so many parishioners and their children attending Mass and celebrating fathers on Father s Day. I was also so excited to see so many walking down the street heading to the Farmers Market who stopped to ask if they could come in and stayed to celebrate the Eucharist with us. This is evangelization at its best. We are called to reach out to all in the community and show them the love that only God can give. Thank you to the over 70 parishioners who donated their time or monetarily helped with the purchasing of the food. 3 SOLEMNITY OF THE NATIVITY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST JUNE 24, 2018 A Statement from Cardinal Daniel DiNardo June 13, 2018 Fort Lauderdale, FL "At its core, asylum is an instrument to preserve the right to life. The Attorney General's recent decision elicits deep concern because it potentially strips asylum from many women who lack adequate protection. These vulnerable women will now face return to the extreme dangers of domestic violence in their home country. This decision negates decades of precedents that have provided protection to women fleeing domestic violence. Unless overturned, the decision will erode the capacity of asylum to save lives, particularly in cases that involve asylum seekers who are persecuted by private actors. We urge courts and policy makers to respect and enhance, not erode, the potential of our asylum system to preserve and protect the right to life. Additionally, I join Bishop Joe Vásquez, Chairman of USCCB's Committee on Migration, in condemning the continued use of family separation at the U.S./Mexico border as an implementation of the Administration's zero tolerance policy. Our government has the discretion in our laws to ensure that young children are not separated from their parents and exposed to irreparable harm and trauma. Families are the foundational element of our society and they must be able to stay together. While protecting our borders is important, we can and must do better as a government, and as a society, to find other ways to ensure that safety. Separating babies from their mothers is not the answer and is immoral." Rectory & Office Update Hall Update The rectory damage was very extensive from the pipe burst. The whole first floor was damaged and is not inhabitable at the moment. It should take another month or two to get the rebuilding done. That means the office will be on limited hours and varied times. The Rose Room will also be off limits during this time. I will continue to keep you updated as we move forward. Aaron The Finance Committee approved a small update to the hall. This will begin in July and take about a month. We hope to have the floors redone and have new paint and lighting. This will allow us to rent out the hall to community events that fall within the guidelines set by the Diocese of San Diego. Once the hall is finished we will put out the guidelines for parishioners and others for renting the hall. Aaron

5 Catholic School Tuition Assistance St. John has the opportunity to offer financial assistance to one or more Catholic school students, K-12, for the school year. If your child will be enrolled in a Catholic school this fall and you are interested in applying please contact Aaron in the parish office.
