1 Assembly Bulletin May 2017 This Month s Meeting at the Francis J. Spence Diocesan Centre. The Faithful Navigator Report In the last issue of our bulletin I spoke of the fifteen diseases of leadership as presented by our Holy Father Pope Francis. We are now in the midst of an election within our Assembly and understanding the qualities required for strong leadership are needed to ensure the success of our mission. The beautiful message here is, that if we all look closely at the fifteen diseases we are all handed the same tools and can make efforts with God s grace to be a good leader. I truly believe we are all called to be leaders. The real question is are we willing. With the gift of free will, we all made a decision to join the Fourth degree of our Order. As Catholic Gentlemen we are called to serve others and assist them to get to Heaven. Who are the others? They are our spouse, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers, father, mother, friends, strangers in our midst and yes even our enemies. With the gift of free will we can also make the choice to just sit back, relax and always allow others to do the hard things in this world. If we truly believe and want to live in God s grace, there is little choice in the decision we can make here. Will this be challenging and possibly exhausting? It most certainly can be, however we cannot serve our Lord and expect it to be an easy ride. Just pause and remember what Jesus did for each of us as he was nailed to the cross. Some might say, I have young children, I work long hours, I don t feel my opinion matters, I am afraid of rejection, and the list goes on. Are these your excuses? I get it, I too have used these excuses successfully in order to resist serving others. Knights of Columbus ~ 4th Degree God s will. If you do not serve in our Honour Guards, know that serving on our Executive can be another way of contributing to our good works. In closing my message, I would like to thank all those members who expressed and shared their condolences on the recent passing of my Mother. It is true that age does not matter when it comes to the pain of loosing a loved one. It is however my faith that has given me courage and strength that I believe will pull me from the sorrow I feel at this time. My mother left a beautiful gift of daily journals to my family. These journals recorded her entire life up to about ten years ago. As I read these journals, I know my mother will live in my heart always. What a beautiful message she has given and I share it with all of you. Keeping a journal can be an ever lasting gift to future generations within our families. It is never too late to start. GROUP OPS REPORT The question was asked recently are we really giving people access to events they might not otherwise afford or just selling cheap seats to people who would go anyway?

I do know that I have sold tickets to folk who could never have paid for the tickets they wanted in one shot, but I was able to hold the tickets why they paid by installment.

3 GROUP OPS REPORT The question was asked recently are we really giving people access to events they might not otherwise afford or just selling cheap seats to people who would go anyway? It is tough to answer that question. I do know that I have sold tickets to folk who could never have paid for the tickets they wanted in one shot, but I was able to hold the tickets why they paid by installment. I do know that I have sold tickets to persons at cost when it was clear they would not afford our discounted price. I have donated tickets to Special Olympians in Ottawa when a day prior to game day the seats were still unsold. Some tickets went at half price to whomever bought them just to limit our loss. Could they afford full price or not? I have no idea. I do know that I sold 18 Senators round one play off tickets for well below the Box Office price of $ So the purchasers saved bundles and we made $574. For the person who wants that opportunity to see an event in person I can assure you, that we have helped people save money and we have made a few fundraiser dollars to help St Mary's Cathedral. help Archbishop O'Brien pay St Mary's Cathedral expenses. If you would rather pay that from your personal donation, the choice is yours. Thank you to the individuals who actively support the program as participants or by helping spread the word. The Faithful Admiral Report Greetings Sir Knights, Our Easter season is now upon us. For the month of May we need to reflect on the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord.

We re not perfect as being humans, but we have to keep in mind that our Lord will always forgive us for our sins. This should be a time of reflection of where we ve gone and where were going.

We should be trying extremely hard to developing our family relationships. I ve been reflecting within myself on this and praying for guidance.

5 The Faithful Admiral Report Greetings Sir Knights, Our Easter season is now upon us. For the month of May we need to reflect on the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord. He took his life for us as a sacrifice to save us. We always want to keep in mind to follow His footsteps as often as we can. We re not perfect as being humans, but we have to keep in mind that our Lord will always forgive us for our sins. This should be a time of reflection of where we ve gone and where were going. We also should keep in mind what we can do to help our fellow Sir Knights. This also should be the time, to remember all of our family members in our lives. My prayers have been answered, I hope yours will as well. I can appreciate the next few weeks will be very demanding upon our personal schedules. Our upcoming 3 rd and 4 th degree on May 6, is upon us over the next few weeks. Tried to remember our unity and fraternity for the upcoming weeks ahead. It has been an experience and a pleasure to serve you as your Captain and a real learning curve for me. Thank You. Our dinner meeting was a real success thanks to the help of Brothers, Tom Callery, Bill Coppens, Jerzy Prugar who provided the wonderful Stews. As for our summer social we are working on a location and hoping to have it hosted on July 10, I must say it has definitely been a different year for me, but with the support of our pastor Father Shawn Hughes, Father Brennan, My Brother Knights, Family and Friends, I am truly Blessed to be in such great company. 9 Knights in Business. Fr. McGivney s vision of the Knights was to unite men of Catholic faith and provide for the families of deceased members. The Order has certainly grown since the humble beginning of 1882 but the Order is strong in providing charitable work far beyond the needs of its members. Much of that charitable work relies upon the generosity of Knights who are also in business. This series will focus on Sir Knights in business. Your fraternal of support of them will assist in their continued ability to be generous to the Knights. If you know of a Knight in business who should be profiled here contact Pete Scott. Sir Knight Pat Stenson. Kingston Collision- CSN is family owned since November Pat and Patty are fortunate to have their son Shawn and daughter Amanda as valuable members of their staff of 18 professionals. Pat and Patty opened their collision repair business on Dalton Avenue with a fully equipped shop to repair and refinish vehicles that had been in an accident. They continually invest in their building, equipment, training and staff, to provide high quality, safe repairs for their valued customers. They also invest in their community. A Past Grand Knight and charter member of Holy Name of Jesus Kingston Mills council, Pat is extremely active in his council and parish. Pat sponsored our Blue Jay Bus trips for two years and now offers $500 Collision Repair certificates through our Group Opportunities program. The certificate which can be applied against the insurance deductible saves the recipient $100 on the service and the Assembly retains the other $400 gained from the certificate. Pat and Patty s philanthropy extends to many other activities. They are big supporters of a local registered Charity Hearts for Change which is providing the majority of financial support to the Hosanna Children s Orphanage in rural Kenya and they extend an invitation to all to help by participating in the big fund raiser golf tournament at the Colonnade in Joyceville on July 9 th.
