Cleary Assembly #0857, Kingston, ON 1922 ~ 2017 The Faithful Navigator Report A leader whether in the home, church, business, community, or government has authority due to her role, but her positional power will not bring about good for individuals or organizations unless it is backed up by the capital of character. Dan B. Allender, Leading with a Limp We are all called to serve our Lord, in doing so we then must all be humble servant leaders. I personally have more often reflected on what kind of a leader I am, and will my decisions make me popular; or will I loose the faith of those I lead. I found something that has allowed me to pause and reset the very emotions and thinking that is and has been a poison in how I lead. It is the Fifteen diseases of leadership by Pope Francis. I would like to share these with you. 1. Thinking we are immortal, immune, or downright indispensable. 2. Excessive busyness 3. Mental and [emotional] petrification. 4. Excessive planning and of functionalism 5. Poor coordination 6. Losing the memory of those who nurtured, mentored and supported us 7. Rivalry and vainglory 8. Living a double life 9. Gossiping, grumbling, and back-biting. 10. Idolizing superiors 11. Indifference to others 12. A downcast face 13. Hoarding. 14. Closed circles 15. Extravagance and self-exhibition So much can be said about each of these areas identified by our Holy Father and it would be wrong of me to not admit my own guilt to many of these areas. I intend over the next while bring to you a more in-depth reflection in each of these areas and how I personally will use this to bring about change in my own style of leadership. Through my own discernment, I will also pray for your discernment. I go back to my beginning words, of serving our Lord and being servant leaders. Remember mostly it is not about the position we do or do not hold. It is about how we our helping others to get to Heaven. The time is now, that we all become strong leaders, in our families, with our friends, in our workplaces and in the wider Community we serve. 2 Faithful Comptroller The membership of Assembly 857 currently stands at 201 members. This is comprised of 40 Honorary Life; 4 Honorary; & 4 Disabled members. We have 20 Priests & 3 Deacons. We have 1 candidate, read into our Assembly, and approved for membership. Christian Rojas Gaspar of Council 9652, sponsored by SK Omer Guertin (9652), awaits a 4th degree exemplification, to be announced in the spring. Remember our Assembly operates with the dues collected from those members of billing status. Please keep yourself in Good Standing with both your 3rd degree council & your 4th degree Assembly You may pay your dues for 2017 at any time, by cash, E-transfer or by cheque, made payable to Knights of Columbus Assembly 857. The 2nd billing notices have be sent out mid- February. Please support your Assembly. If you have any concerns, please contact me. Thanks. Please keep me informed of any changes in your personal Contact Info, so our records can be kept current. Also, due to the increase in postal rates, we must try to curb expense where possible. The use of & the internet, if used wisely, is an excellent way of moving information to our members. Those without, will still be informed by regular mail & by voice. 3 GROUP OPS REPORT Sir Knights As this year's program slowly recover into the black we can take pride that we have indeed fulfilled the first objective of providing affordable access to events at less than box office prices. More affordable than intended but better than having many tickets go unsold. We have supported over 1300 people since we began and have provided over $43.4K in savings. Equally since we began we have raised over $7.7k and are on target to release further funds to the Archbishop in recognition to our second objective. Thank you to every Sir Knight who actively participates or actively promotes our various events. The Senators Regular season has a month remaining and our playoff seats are ready for your reservation. Looking forward, the Blue Jay information has been available since November with July 2 Bus trip sold out since early January. A second bus in being considered if there is sufficient interest. The CFL schedule has been announce and information on both the Grey Cup Champion Ottawa Redblacks and the Toronto Argonauts is available on our website. The Ottawa Fury are launching their new season. Toronto Honda Indy tickets and Chris De Burgh Concert tickets, round out our current holdings. SK Pat Stenson and CSN-Collission have graciously donated four $500 gift certificate that we are authorized to sell for $400. That give the holder $100 savings on collision repair services or their insurance deductible. We retain the $400 for our program. Our Newest members of the Patriotic degree assembly, new SK Raymond Paquin (left) and new SK James Hughes (right) are presented with their certificates at the February general meeting by FN SK Scott Arnold We continue to look for and adapt new opportunities. The band consists of Brent Schneider, vocalist and lead guitar, Alice Ching-Chew, vocalist and tenor guitar, and two very talented fiddle players, Mary A. Kennedy and Ted Chew. Their blend of instruments and vocal styling is unique, and they cover a wide range of musical genres 2. Tea and Cookies 3. Art: Curator of Canadian Historical art Alicia Boutilier presents the 2017 Isabel Bader Fellow in Textile Conservation and Research Sophia Zweifel and Graduate Intern Gennifer Majors. They will discuss their research project investigating historical cleaning methods used on the Queen s University Collection of Historical Dress. 9 April Belissimo Featuring Bill Bosworth and Lise de Kok, is a Piano/Violin duo presenting the American Songbook : Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington and Antonio Carlos Jobim, among others. 2. Tea and Cookies 3. Art: Recently returned from exhibition in Milan, a magnificent imaginary architectural scene by the Venetian painter Bernardo Bellotto ( ) is the centrepiece of a presentation by Bader Curator/Researcher of European Art Jacquelyn Coutré. This will be the first opportunity in Kingston to see this spectacular recent addition to The Bader Collection.
