Zion wants everyone to enjoy our kitchen and feel comfortable about receiving food that is prepared there. We plan to use the kitchen more than we have in the past, so it is mandatory that we adhere to the policies set by the Health Department. When serving food from the kitchen, a hair net or hat must be worn. When handling food rolls, bread, etc, gloves must be worn. A divider is available when working in the kitchen area. The storage pantry, ice machine etc. will still be accessible. A hair net dispenser is located on the wall by the sink and gloves on the bottom shelf of the center table. Thank you for your cooperation, Ron Frederick, Board of Trustees Continued from pg. 4 UMM I leave you with this: author unknown A little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to the elementary school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up along with thunder and lightning. The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school, and she herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child. Following the roar of thunder, lightning, like a flaming sword, would cut through the sky. Full of concern, the mother quickly got into her car and drove along the route to her child's school. As she did so, she saw her little girl walking along, but at each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up and smile. Another and another were to follow quickly, and with each, the little girl would look at the streak of light and smile. When the mother's car drove up beside the child, she lowered the window and called to her. "What are you doing? Why do you keep stopping?" The child answered, "I am trying to look pretty; God keeps taking my picture." May God bless you today as you face the storms that come your way. George Hill, UMM

6 Page 6 Circuit Rider September 2018 U N I T E D M E T H O D I S T W O M E N Circle of Friends invite you to join our group in Fellowship and help us with the many Missions we do for our church! Our next meeting will be September 8, 7:30am in the blue room. Any questions, please call me anytime. Thank you and Blessings to all, Carolyn Ayers, President The UMW Circle of Friends held our meeting on Saturday August 11th in the blue room of The Family Life Center. There were 15 members present. Delores Cusic and Lesley Maguire each gave a devotion. Nancy reported that the "Picnic In The Park" was a great success and that with a little help she would like to expand the program next year. We will have our usual hot dogs, chips, drinks and baked goods for sale during The Hungry Team Yard Sale on August 31st and September 1st. During the Annual Car Show on September 8th we will have a bake sale. We collected pajamas to be given to the Pajama Connection and everyone was very generous. I know the pj's are really needed and will be greatly appreciated. I want to thank all of our bakers and workers for your hard work at the bake sale during the UMM Auction. We cleared $349 which will help support our missions. Our visits to the Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home are postponed until further notice due to the outbreak of scabies which has spread throughout the facility. We will resume our sing-a-longs as soon as we get the all's clear. Due to the freeze on spending, the UMM and COF are donating the funds to purchase the candles and candle holders used during the Christmas Eve Services. We are sharing the July muffin donation between the Veteran's Home and our Sunday School. Each will be receiving $125. We have decided to give our November monetary donation to the Church. We also voted to give a $500 donation to the church to help with the deficit. Picnic in the Park We really appreciate your patronage at our fundraisers. Without your help we couldn't help others. Mt. Zion is our Church and has been a Godsend to many. Now is the time to give back to our " Little Church on the Hill " May God bless you and keep you, may He make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you, may He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26 God's Blessings, Carolyn Ayers, COF President

7 Page 7 Circuit Rider September 2018 Together We Can Make a Difference Picnic in the Park With the help of my husband, daughter and many church volunteers, Mt. Zion served 118 children a free picnic lunch this summer at the District 5 Park pavilion. Following lunch, the children enjoyed a simple craft and story time. St. Mary s County Library supplied free books for the children to choose a book to take home. The children also enjoyed the new playground. This summer has been hot and wet, but it never rained on picnic day and there was always a breeze in the pavilion. Donations to purchase picnic supplies were provided by our Hungry Team, Food Lion, McKays, Costco, B.J s, Tidewater Pharmacy and fruit was donated by the Farmer s Market. The survey completed by the parents was very positive and they would like Picnic in the Park to return next summer. As we finished on Aug. 2 the parents wanted to know what I was going to do the remainder of the summer. What else? Get ready for next year! Nancy Cardinale

8 Page 8 Circuit Rider September 2018 Music Ministry Our Music Ministry has already begun exercising their vocal cords and swinging those arms. Our search for a Director of Music Ministry continues. This is a part-time (20 hour/ week) position. Responsibilities include: working with the pastor and choosing choir music that will complement the liturgy, the preaching and the spirit of the people, rehearsing the adult choir, directing anthems at worship services, and providing occasional special services of music. Specific responsibilities include coordinating music for worship services, overseeing, and all church choirs. All inquiries can be directed to Pastor Steve. In the interim, the Chancel Choir will be led by Jen Voorhaar and Becky Humphrey. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays at 7pm in the choir room. The Handbell Choir will be led, once again, by Karen Allen. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday in the blue room beginning at 5:45pm. Interested? Stop by and see what it is all about. Chimes for Christ, Tonechimes choir (ages 5 through youth) will be led by Toni Hayes. Rehearsals are held in the parlor on Wednesdays beginning at 5pm. The rehearsal starts with one on one practicing, followed by the group rehearsing from 5:15-5:45pm. Voices for Christ (ages 4 through 5th grade) will begin rehearsals shortly. If your child is interested, please sign up on the Music Ministry bulletin board. This summer we were blessed to have Hannah Gross provide musical direction for Mt. Zion. Thank you for a wonderful Music Camp. Pictures are on the opposite page. As she begins a new chapter in life in college at the University of Maryland, our prayers go with her. It has been my distinct pleasure to be your music director this summer. This has been one amazing first job! I have learned so many new things about both others and myself during the process of planning and executing Music Camp. The skills I have picked up are valuable ones that will definitely be useful for a college student. And of course, the love and support I have felt from all of you has been so appreciated. I feel I have come further in my spiritual journey and will always hold Mt. Zion in a special place in my heart. Thank you for a wonderful summer, Hannah Gross Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a Psalm. Psalm 47:6-7.
