Worship is my topic this month. It s one that has been on my mind frequently over the past year, so I thought I would reflect on it with the hope that you might come to better understanding yourself. Worship starts and flows from the person and work of God. This is to say, God initiates worship. God, also, invites us to worship. Ultimately, for the Christian, the response to the person of Jesus Christ. In the book Worship Architect, the author writes Worship happens when we learn to say yes in ever-increasing ways to God s invitation to encounter him. (p. 4). It is the constant encounter of Jesus Christ that is the priority of worship. Can we live without worship? For many in the secular world, they seem to think this is possible. Yet, they do worship in many different ways. Only, the object of their worship could be football, baseball, or any other sport. The object could be a movie star, or TV program, or a musician or even a song. The object could be money or wealth, or it can even be a book like the Bible. For the Christian, each of these according to the Bible, is an idolatry. For us Christians, the answer to the question should be obvious. We cannot live without worship, if the object of our worship is our triune God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Yet, many of us Christians think we can. I, myself, fell into that trap for almost thirty years. In those thirty years when I foolishly told myself and the world I could be a Christian without the Church, I failed to worship. I failed to worship not just because I didn t attend a local church on Sunday s, but more because I forgot how to worship, and the object of Christian worship dimmed. Other objects became more important. I have learned the past two decades, since my return to the Church, worship is not just about sitting in a pew, it is about being formed for worship every day through the work of the Holy Spirit. Try thinking about that. Sunday morning worship in community is a place where you learn how to worship for the rest of the week. That can be sometimes alone, yet many times in smaller communities like family, or among friends. I know of a pastor who sets time aside every morning for worship. He is an empty-nester, and his wife has a different sleep rhythm than he does. He usually finds himself alone in the morning around 5:30 when he can do devotions, which is just another way to say he worships. His worship on weekday mornings is formed by Sunday worship. He prays, reads Scripture, reads some liturgy out loud, then will pray again. Thanks to smart phones, he also either plays some sacred music or sings a favorite hymn, like Be My Vision. This practice came about because of Sunday worship. That Sunday worship formed him and formed his daily worship. This is what I want to invite you into. It has made all the difference for my friend s life and mine. Even in the midst of the biggest storms and the most hectic moments. I invite you to find the truth of this for yourself. Come to Sunday worship, let it form who you are, and form your worship through the week. When you can, make it a family worship time. If not, then give yourself some space to worship, daily with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone. For it is by him all worship is measured. YIC, Pastor Andy

We meet in the church kitchen every Monday at 5 PM to pack - we are typically finished by 5:45 PM. All are welcome to join in! If you cannot join us in person, please join us in spirit. Please pray for these children - pray that the food will nourish their bodies, minds, souls, and let them know, in their hearts, that they are loved. So many children in our area suffer with food insecurity. But thanks to the generosity of the members of this church, their families, and friends, we are able to reduce those fears for 44 children. Thank you all for your continued support with this life changing mission. God Bless the Children! If you would like to volunteer, please contact Tammy Nicodemus-Linton THE SALVATION ARMY DINNER IS THE THIRD SUNDAY EACH MONTH. There are a few openings left in so if your group, or a group you know, would like to get involved, this is a great opportunity to give back to your community or to fulfill community service hours for students or clubs.
