3 ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES--9:45 a.m. HELPING HANDS CLASS We finished our study of This I Believe and are reviewing several suggestions for our next study. Next Sundays ( August 3) we will have a presentation by Rachel Tarr about her Kenya trip and on August 10th Jody Webb will be giving another Oswald Chambers lesson on prayer from Oswald Chambers book If You Will Ask. Our next study will start after that. We have social get-togethers during our church year. Our class continues to give a monthly donation to Gilmer Community Food Pantry, Murphy Harpst, Gilmer Christian Learning Center, and Kids Kottage. We also sponsor a young boy in Kenya. Other projects are supported on a onetime basis if funds are available. If you are not already in a Sunday morning class, we welcome you to join us in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45 Sunday morning. CORNERSTONE SS CLASS The Cornerstone SS class is finishing up a Max Lucado study, You ll Get Through This. On August 17, we will begin a study by Andy Stanley, Go Fish. People love to tell stories of their fishing adventures. When it comes to faith, however, most people clam up. Why is it we can t talk about what God has done in our lives as naturally as we can spin fishing tales? Andy Stanley explores the motivation behind sharing your faith and how it can become a natural part of your life. The Cornerstone class is an active class for adults of all ages. Members of the class are active in many areas including the Gilmer County Food Pantry, Stephen Ministries, and the Kenya Project. BYKOTA continues to study The Capacity for More, by Phil Schroeder. This book is based on Jesus parable of the talents from Matthew 25: BEN BARRETT SS Class is studying the book of Ephesians during August and will study Romans in September. The class maintains an emergency food freezer, makes monthly donations to Gilmer Food Pantry, provides Sunday night meals for youth, and supports GRASP and Vacation Bible School with monetary donations. CROSSWALK SS CLASS has been reorganized under the leadership of Al Summers. This class is open to all adults. The class meets in Marianne s Preschool Office. Please join us! The Claddagh (Night) Circle is sponsoring a conference entitled "Emerging Victoriously After Loss" on Saturday, September 20 from 9 am-2 pm. Nancy Chapman Monroe will be the conference leader. Nancy's writing has appeared in national publications such as Billy Graham's "Decision" magazine, "Good News" magazine, David Cook's "Sunday Digest", as well as various newspapers, poetry magazines and anthologies. She has served as guest speaker to women's conferences and retreats throughout the southeast. Tickets are $20 and available from any Claddagh Circle member. Profits from the conference will go to New Beginnings for Gilmer County which is in the process of developing Transitional Housing in Gilmer County. The group is modeling the housing after the United Methodist's Action Ministry. Noon Circle will go back to the regular meeting schedule in August. Claddagh Night Circle meets 2nd SAVE THE DATE Monday at 6:30 p.m. Noon Circle meets the 3rd Tuesday at 12 noon. Joy Circle meets the 1st Thursday at 11 a.m. A trip is being planned for Thursday, August 14.

4 Thank you to all who have donated fabric and time in making summer sundresses for the little girls in Gilmer County. This silent ministry was a huge success! We gave a total of 101 summer dresses at various Seamless Summer locations during the target month of July. I wish you all could have seen the smiling faces of the children (and the parents) as we spoke to them about the love of Jesus. With your continued prayers for this project, we plan to sew dresses throughout the winter and be able to give even more dresses next summer as an extension of Christ's love. 5 Bringing Christ s healing love to hurting people The mission of our Stephen Ministry is To share the love of Jesus Christ by providing one-toone, distinctively Christian care to individuals who are experiencing life s challenges and difficulties. What do Stephen Ministers do? Stephen Ministers bring distinctively Christian care to those in need by working alongside our pastors to care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time, such as divorce, grief, hospitalization, unemployment, terminal illness, relocation, chronic illness, or loneliness. Ever thought about becoming a Stephen Minister? Applications are being accepted for a new Stephen Minister training class to begin in August Paul wrote, "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow" (1 Corinthians 3:6). God has plans for you to grow. Is it time to water the seeds of faith that God has planted in you? If you have a desire to share God s love with those that are hurting, consider becoming a Stephen Minister. You will join the more than 600,000 laypeople worldwide that share the love of Jesus Christ by providing one-to-one, distinctively Christian care to individuals who are experiencing life s challenges and difficulties. The United Methodist Men continue to meet at Annie's Restaurant at 8:00 AM on Maddox Dr. on the first Tuesday of each month for our Prayer Breakfast and devotional. Our evening meetings will be held on the third Tuesday at Shane's Rib Shack at 6:30 PM. We welcome ALL men of the church to come and participate in these exciting fellowship opportunities. Our next meeting will be August 5 at Annie s. A Stop Hunger Now packaging event is planned for November 1 starting at 8 AM in cooperation with Cartecay United Methodist Men. This is a church wide activity and we encourage you to place this date on your calendar. Last year this combined effort packaged over 20,000 meals. We hope to exceed that this year. Your help in packaging on November 1 will be appreciated but we are also in need of financial support. Each meal costs $0.25 so in order to package 20,000; we need to raise $5,

According to Matthew s Gospel, the risen Christ made it clear: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you (28:19-20) Based on this Great Commission, our United Methodist Church has stated its purpose: WE HAVE A MISSION Welcoming-Worshiping-Nurturing-Sending The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Local churches provide the most significant arena through which disciple-making occurs. So the mission of our congregation is to make disciples. This is a fourfold task.... We could abbreviate our mission as one of welcomingworshiping-nurturing-sending.
