AMY STEWART special musical guest and leader for WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY, October 7th Join us for a special hymn sing as we sing around the table of unity on Sunday, October 7th, featuring the musical leadership of Dr. Stewart. Amy is an instructor in the choral, musicology and theory departments at TCU. She conducts the Purple, White and Blues, teaches all sorts of music classes and is the accompanist for the Concert Chorale and the Choral Union. In addition, Dr. Stewart is the Assistant Organist for University Christian Church in Fort Worth. Amy made her home in New York City, where she worked with BR Productions and was a featured soloist with the New York Pops. From her early childhood, Amy has been in the recording studio where she has performed on hundreds of pieces for educational and choral publications and commercials. What a privilege to have her with us on October 7th! Bring your friends for our special worship event. On October 7, which is World Wide Communion Sunday, we will have Dr. Amy Stewart as a guest interim. She and Martha will be working together to create a lessons and hymns service of the Table. Please mark your calendar to join us for this special Communion Sunday. Our Stewardship series WHAT SHALL WE BRING begins on October 14 through October 28. Commitment Sunday is October 28. In Worship Looking ahead to the first Sunday in November we will celebrate All Saints Sunday with a KIRKING OF THE PLAIDS, a special service of our Scottish roots. We hope to see you there!

4 Parish Mark your calendars now for the Parish Fish Fry to be held immediately following worship on Sunday, October 28. Several men in our Parish will be frying fish, French fries and hushpuppies on Sunday morning so that we can all share a delicious lunch together right after church. Bring your favorite side dish such as coleslaw, salad and/or dessert and join us for this special luncheon in our new fellowship hall.

6 Sundays 9:30a - 12:30p The two - person team for our permanent nursery at church is JAYME BRIGHT and CRYSTAL PHARISS. They are tag-teaming on the roles and responsibilities for caring for our littlest ones. Please note, our nursery has RELOCATED to the last classroom on the left in the MDO Xtreme hallway. Our nursery is charged with creating a welcoming environment by engaging children in organized activities that are age-appropriate for 0-5 years of age. At age 5-6, we encourage your child to worship alongside you in big church. Our nursery workers will be on hand at 930a on Sunday mornings and will stay through the worship service every Sunday. You may drop your child before Sunday school and keep them in nursery until after worship, or any combo thereof that suits the needs of your family. We will also have a volunteer help assist our little ones to the nursery after the children s sermon on Sunday mornings, to engage in a story time, play and crafts that are based on the same scripture story we are focusing on during worship. We hope your family will find our nursery setting to be a blessing.

7 Opportunities for Ministry YOUTH GROUPS Wednesday nights beginning at 6pm. We need volunteers to provide the MEALS for these young people in Middle School and High School. They also need youth SPONSORS that interact and help lead youth nights. Please contact Chris Kahlmorgan at (817) if you are interested in helping. CHILDREN S MINISTRY, CCF needs volunteers to help with their program on Wednesday nights from 5:30-7p. This program is for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Please let the church office know if you re interested in helping. FOOD PANTRY open the 3rd Monday of each month from 2:30-6:00pm at the Light Church. Volunteers are always needed to help serve the families of our community. MEALS ON WHEELS delivered each week day to elderly or disabled members of our community. Meals are prepared and delivered by volunteers each day. SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS If you re interested in teaching Sunday School for any ages of children or adults, please contact Cindy Hackley at cindy@richardsranchtexas.com. Classes offered: Elementary Middle School High School Friends & Followers Pairs & Spares PRAYER PARTNERS a new program being implemented this year in our community that will cover our local 9th grade students in prayer! ECUADOR MISSION TRIP an annual mission trip to build/help meet the local community s needs.

8 Announcement from the Children's Christian Fellowship (a cooperative ministry by The Parish and FUMC) Join us on Wednesday's for The Sacred Circle, a children's ministry for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. We will gather from 5:30 pm to 7 pm for a brown bag dinner (please send with your child), and then we will go to The Sacred Circle for the story. Kids will experience the presence of God and how God cares for and loves the world and God's people. After story time, we will move to the activity centers to interact with God's message to us. Each child is a beautiful created image of God, and it is our goal to reinforce that he/she is a blessing to us! 9 YOUTH GROUP The youth focused on Building Relationship Around Faith during September. We started the month by spending time around the table and devotion. The following week we were blessed to have our Artistin-Residence, Ben Grace, share his story and musical talents with the youth. The youth the next week hosted an Ice Cream Social at the Faith Community Nursing & Rehabilitation. The youth took the time to mingle with the residents and got a chance to hear some great stories. This past week we had an evening centered around fellowship and games as we continued to build relationships with one another. During October we plan to continue to Build Relationships with great activities and devotions centered around friendship. God Bless, Chris The Parish was pleased to welcome the Jacksboro High School football team for breakfast on September 21st. Thank you to our Men s ministry for preparing the meal for the football team. Thank you to everyone else who participated and made this a special event. Go Tigers!!

10 MDO Xtreme September was FULL of fantastic events and creative goodness at MDO. We have seen NINE new children enrolled at MDO this month (yay!!!). The staff has been amazing with the children as they have adjusted and learned our preschool routines. All of our classes spent a couple of weeks learning all about APPLES! We read books about apples, explored them through touch and taste, painted with apples, and used paper and glue to create our own whimsical apples. The Parish s Artist-in-Residence, Ben Grace, came by the 2nd week of school and visited each class for a time of songs, instruments, and dancing. Our students LOVED having Ben visit and didn t want him to leave! His love and energy for music is contagious! Thanks Ben! Our Preschool class (3 s & 4 s) attended the Jr. High Homecoming Pep Rally a couple of weeks ago. We have an amazing group of MDO moms that chaperoned with us and even made spirit gear for each child! We are thankful for such a great group of supportive parents and for Dianna Stockdale, as she is always so willing to drive our students on field trips. Our classes ended Sept. by focusing on how God made each of them special and unique. October will kick off our fall themed curriculum and activities. We are also planning another great Fall Festival at the end of the month for students and parents to enjoy together. 11 2018 STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN It is clear that at the end of the day, what God wants from us is not our stuff, but our whole heart. Bulls numbering in the thousands and running rivers of oil are not the sacrifice that God desires, but rather our willingness to abandon all other loyalties and claims that clamor for our attention, in favor of one: God. A commitment that does not get measured by the gold standard of empire s wealth, but rather one of the simple turning of life toward the priorities of the Realm. Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. It seems so simple, but be we know the opposite to be true. It is easier to just swipe our debit card and contribute to a cause. In the church, it often feels safer to ask for money than to ask for the changing of a life s priorities. It is not that offerings are inappropriate, but they should flow from the heart of relationship and they manifest themselves in more that temporal gifts. Stewardship is about the care and management of creation, the observation of Sabbath and the care for the precious gift that is our own life. It is about sharing the good news of the gospel by inviting others to join us at an always expanding table of grace. Faithful stewardship is about the intentional and impactful deployment of our spiritual gifts. And yes, it is about our stuff. But more than that, it is a way of giving that flows from the heart in concrete ways in response to what God has already done. This year, we will be exploring our gifts and giftedness with our annual stewardship campaign and hope you will be ready to support our church through your gifts, offerings and time. Suzanne
