1 Volume 8 - Number 9 September 19, 2017 ANGEL TREE ORNAMENTS UPDATE On Sunday,December 3, at the hanging of the greens we need to update our Angel Tree ornaments. This tree will be in the vestibule and is in memory of friends and family who have passed away. Many of you have placed angel ornaments on the tree in the past, however tags were either not placed on the ornament originally or they have fallen off. Each ornament should have the persons name it is in given in memory of. Tags will be available on December 3 to replace or place on the ornament. Please check your ornament then or another time in December to be sure each one does have a tag. Some of you may want to place an angel ornament on the tree for a loved one. Please place the ornament in a bag noting who it is in memory of and the Flower Committee members will prepare the label for you. Or, if you choose, you may label and hang it anytime in December. Please do not bring the ornaments prior to December 3rd since we have no place to store them for you before the tree is up. Thanks for your response and help with this angel tree. You are encouraged to pack a box with your family. These should be brought to church by November 17, If possible, November 12, 2017 would be even better if you have your boxes prepared by that date. As an alternative to doing a box yourself, we will be collecting items and having a packing session. Good items include "small" toys (cars, balls, jump ropes, etc.) Remember to include batteries if needed. Also school supplies, hygiene items (no liquids) or small accessories. Flash light should include batteries. This year, no toothpaste may be included, no food of any kind including mints and hard candy, no fruit rolls, no drink mixes, no liquids or lotions, no aerosol cans. Customs in some places will remove these. These items may be brought beginning in September extending through October 23, Samaritan s Purse SUGGEST a $9 donation for delivery. If you would like to donate for this, you may leave money in an envelope in the box, at the church office or give to Debbie Rukat. More details will be announced soon including information about a plastic box which can be purchased for $1.50.

The tentative date is Saturday, December 9, but the date has not been finalized. This will involve our choir and orchestra, the Zion Quartet, as well as other choir members and instrumentalists from our community. We are in the process of securing the dates for the presentation as well as rehearsal dates. Please be praying about this very special time of corporate community worship, and your involvement to help this time be the best it can be to the Glory of God! 4 From Ken Ken s Korner - Ken Reid, Pastor Summer is for all intense and purposes over! What a strange summer! The weather has been strangely cooler than normal. But the activities at the church have been hot, hot, hot! Many thanks to everyone who has helped along the way with youth, children, Golden Fellowship, the Church-wide picnic, baptism, so many good things. As we enter the Fall season there is still lots on the agenda. Keep in mind that you can watch this newsletter, the web-site, the bulletin and hear announcements in church to stay informed. My current sermon series is one that I have been working on and developing over the summer. It is called, Living the God-Centered Life. As I have said in the pulpit, I m not going to give you 49 ways to live a better Christian life. What I am sharing are the tangible aspects and characteristics that influence our walk, our daily journey and what the world sees in us (or at least the world should see in us). Worship has been. well, worshipful. I look forward to each Sunday morning together to see how we respond to what the Lord is doing. Secondly, I began a class during CrossWalk (same time as MARK and Youth) on Sunday evenings. It is based on the book by Henry and Richard Blackaby entitled Flickering Lamps. I m using the story of Faith Baptist Church in Canada to inspire us to look beyond ourselves to our future. I invite you to join us if you are not already involved in the other ministries of the church during that same hour. Several travel events on the Golden Fellowship Calendar that everyone is invited to attend are listed below. October 19 Fall Senior Event at Seneca Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. Guest speaker and Christian Comedian, Dr. Dennis Swanberg will the main event. You don t want to miss this hilarious morning. October 26 Annual Leaf Trip to NC. This year we will stop at our regular Dish Barn and Apple Barn in Hendersonville. After that we will make a new trip over to Pisgah Inn Dining on the Blue Ridge Parkway for lunch. October 29 Blackwood Brothers in Concert and leading morning worship at CSBC. Hope to see the house full for this once in a long-time gospel sharing time. October 29 Annual Fall Celebration with trunk or treat, games and lots of fun. November 9 Southern Christmas Show in Charlotte. Advance reduced tickets are available from me for those going on other days. The bus will leave the church at 7:00 a.m. and return in late evening. November 16 California Dreaming Dinner out. Bus leaves at 3:15 p.m.

5 Children s Ministries - Lauren Beddingfield, Director of Children Hello CSBC! I hope everyone had an awesome summer! I know that at C Street Kids, we had an incredible summer with many brand new events and opportunities for children of all ages and backgrounds to come to church and hear about Jesus! The highlight of the summer for me was our baptism at the lake where SIX children were baptized at our church picnic because they experienced God at Vacation Bible School and at KidSalt camp! I am so thankful for CSBC and your continuous support and encouragement throughout the summer! As we begin our fall session, we are so excited to announce that we ve had 25 to over 30 children each week both at Bible Quest and MARK Club and expect more over the next few weeks! Vanessa and I are so thankful for all of our volunteers who have been faithful to serve, no matter how long they have been with us in MARK Club and Bible Quest. We ve had people throughout the summer stepping up to fill in much needed volunteer slots and we appreciate it so much! It has also been so encouraging to hear from our new sixth graders how much they are enjoying their transition to youth! They have become much closer friends with each other and our youth have truly come together throughout the summer and have been experiencing growth as well! I know that due to the efforts of our Youth Advisory Committee and volunteers, our youth have had a great start to the year as well! Be sure to keep an eye out to hear about their pancake breakfast fundraiser coming up in October! It is such a joy to love, lead, and serve your children here at College Street! Can t wait to see what God is going to do next here!
