1 Heber Valley Camp Yung Wmen Guidelines 2018 ( Heber Valley Camp is a muntain facility develped by The Church f Jesus Christ f Latter-day Saints. It prvides a setting in the muntains, away frm the wrld, where the Yung Wmen prgram can be implemented. The purpse f Heber Valley Camp is t help yung wmen: Draw nearer t the Savir Be taught by the pwer f the Hly Ghst Cntinue t live the Yung Wmen values Gain experience and faith that will aid them in becming mthers in Zin *Nte: This dcument des nt define yur Yung Wmen Camp Prgram, but is intended t layut the guidelines established specifically fr Yung Wmen attending Heber Valley Camp. The Church Handbk f Instructins, The Yung Wmen Camp Manual and Fr the Strength f Yuth shuld als be fllwed when planning yur camp. Mnday Mrning Schedule: 7:00 a.m. 9:30 a.m. Arrival at Camp Required Yung Wmen Camp Guidelines Yung Wmen leaders and supply vehicles shuld arrive at Heber Valley Camp n earlier than 7:00 a.m. n Mnday mrning. Upn arrival, yung wmen leaders shuld meet with their camp hsts fr a minute leader rientatin. Since Mnday mrning is a busy time fr the yung wmen leaders (unpacking, setting up, reviewing the layut f the camp, preparing fr the arrival f the yung wmen, attending varius rientatin meetings, etc.), leaders nt riding n buses are encuraged t arrive as early as pssible after 7:00 a.m. The yung wmen shuld arrive n later than 9:30a.m 10:00 a.m. Required Trails Meeting Hike specialists may drive t the lake pavilin fr help with hike plans. If yu are using an vernight backpack site, an additinal leader, (ging n this hike) is required t attend this meeting. 11:00 a.m. Mandatry camp rientatin with yur Camp Hsts This meeting is fr everyne attending yur camp including: yung wmen, yung wmen leaders, priesthd brethren, cking staff, etc. This meeting will be held at yur campsite. 12:30 p.m. Mandatry Challenge Curse Orientatin Fr Stakes-chse 7 yung wmen adult leaders (nt YCL s) t attend the mandatry Mnday afternn training at the Challenge Curse t which yur stake has been assigned. These 7

2 leaders are trained fr the different activities that make up their Challenge Curse sessin and must attend their scheduled Challenge Curse sessins. Fr smaller wards Small wards may nt have enugh leaders t cver the entire Challenge Curse sessin. If this is the case, wards will send as many leaders as pssible, then crdinate with the ther small ward (that is sharing the Challenge Curse sessin) and between the tw small grups supply the 7 leaders that must attend the Mnday rientatin and facilitate the Challenge Curse activities fr their grups. Please leave early enugh t walk t yur assigned Challenge Curse fr this training. Friday Mrning Schedule Cmplete cabin/pavilin cleaning instructins. Take all persnal items and fd with yu. Check ut with missinary camp hst. Check ut between 7:00-10:00 a.m. Transprtatin and Parking Transprtatin is arranged fr and paid by the stake r ward. Transprtatin csts will be paid directly t the prviders and nt t Heber Valley Camp. Stakes must bus their Yung Wmen t and frm camp n available carriers. All yung wmen shuld ride the bus. Tw adult leaders are required t ride each bus. Stake leaders are respnsible t make their wn busing arrangements. Stake Presidents are respnsible t make sure the busing cmpany selected is licensed and insured. Buses are allwed t drive int camp t unlad campers and equipment. Wards registered individually may transprt yung wmen by private vehicles r bus. Each driver must be a licensed, respnsible adult 21 years f age r lder. "Participants in Church activities shuld be cvered by persnal accident and health insurance." (Church Handbk f Instructins, p Sec ) When driving private vehicles, after unlading, drivers will receive parking instructins frm their missinary camp hsts. Private trailers will be tagged and then asked t park in the pint parking lt west f the welcme center Participants Yung wmen and leaders are strngly encuraged t arrive n time, by 9:30 a.m. and stay fr the entire duratin f the camp, (Mnday-Friday). Please limit late arrivals and early departures. A Late List must be submitted prir t camp. Anyne arriving in camp after Mnday mrning must be included n the Late Arrival List t be allwed int camp. This includes priesthd brethren, Bishpric members/wives fr testimny meeting and guest speakers. Cmplete yur Late Arrival List by ging t the View My Reservatin page n the camp website. This is the

3 nly way Late Arrival Lists may be submitted. Yung Wmen Camper Exchange Plicy. Fr campers leaving camp early, the fllwing prcedure must be fllwed: The persn picking up the yung wman frm camp will be asked t wait in the Welcme Center parking Lt. A yung wman leader will need t bring the departing yung wman t the Welcme Center parking lt where the persn picking her up will be waiting. If the departing yung wman will nt be returning t camp that week, she must bring all f her belngings with her t the Welcme Center at this time. Drivers picking up campers need t be aware that a camper exchange can take up t 30 minutes t cmplete, depending n the camper s activities in camp and whether r nt the pick-up was anticipated by the yung wmen camp leaders. All camper exchanges will happen in the Pint Parking Lt in frnt f the Welcme Center. This will allw the security team t mnitr the actual exchange After the yung wman leader facilitating the exchange identifies the pick-up persn as safe, she shuld reprt t security at the Welcme Center. If the yung wman is returning t camp later in the week, her security wristband will get her back int the camp. Pregnant wmen and thse with high bld pressure and breathing difficulties are strngly discuraged frm attending the camp. Children, infants, nursing babies, yung men (under 21), bys and single men are nt permitted in camp when yung wmen grups are there. N pets are permitted. Dress standards fr safety and prtectin have been established as lng pants (n shrts, and n capris), full length shirts (t cver stmach area) with shrt r lng sleeves, and clsed-te shes. N electrnic devices are permitted fr yung wmen-this enhances the camp experience fr yung wmen. Be gd friends and neighbrs. Plan and administer yur camp prgram in a way that will nt interfere with ther grups at camp. Be mindful f thers sharing yur camp area when using sund equipment. Remain in yur assigned camp and cmmn areas. Walk arund, nt thrugh, ther camps. Safety & Security The safety f the yung wmen is the respnsibility f the stake/ward leaders. Each yung wman attending Heber Valley Camp will be required t fill ut a release frm. This frm is the Church Activity Permissin and Authrizatin Frm. It includes the Heber Valley Camp Parental Permissin and Medical Release infrmatin AND the Parental r Guardian Permissin Release specifically fr the high curse and zip line. A signed cpy f this frm shuld be brught t camp fr use by yur stake/ward leaders and medical persnnel. (See HVC website, Yung Wmen Camp menu, Frms and Dcuments

4 sectin). Participants in Church activities shuld be cvered by persnal accident and health insurance." (Church Handbk f Instructins, p. 107.Sec ) A dctr, nurse, r designated medical persn must accmpany each stake/ward fr the duratin f camp. This individual shuld be prepared t treat typical and emergency camping related ailments and injuries; CPR training is encuraged. Medical supplies are t be prvided by each stake/ward. There is a designated first aid area in each large pavilin. The nearest hspital is apprximately 20 minutes away in Heber City. Security wristbands will be issued t all campers upn arrival at the camp and are t be wrn all week. Wristbands will als get campers back int camp if they must leave and return. Emergency prcedures are in place fr the safety f all. Missinary camp hsts will explain emergency prcedures in the Mnday Orientatin Meeting. Emergencies may include, but nt limited t fire, earthquakes r severe strms. The signal fr an emergency is a repeated signal frm an air hrn. At the signal all campers shuld assemble at the main pavilin f their camp and fllw the missinary camp hst s instructins. D nt return t cabin areas until instructed t d s. D nt g int damaged cabins D nt leave camp unless instructed t d s by the missinary camp hst. Reprt medical needs t the camp hst. Campers at the Challenge Curse r Legacy Lake shuld fllw the instructins f the missinaries. Camp security recmmends a head cunt be taken at breakfast, lunch, dinner and at 11:00 p.m. If smene is missing cntact the missinary camp hst immediately. Archery and firearms are nt permitted in any area f camp. Riding utside f mtr vehicles r in the back f pick-up trucks, trailers, etc. is nt permitted. Bicycles skatebards, rller-blades, ATVs and recreatinal vehicles f any type are nt permitted. Only Heber Valley Camp missinaries and authrized staff are permitted t use ATVs. Yung wmen shuld be in cabins by 10:00 p.m. Lights shuld be turned ut and yung wmen quiet by 11:00 p.m. Yu are welcme t bring walkie-talkies fr crdinating grup activities in camp and n the trails. A tw-way camp radi is issued t all grups ging n vernight backpack hikes. Dehydratin is the number ne health issue at Heber Valley Camp. Yung wmen and leaders are strngly encuraged t carry a bttle f water with them at all times and t drink as much water as pssible. Please use the buddy system at camp. Fr emergency messages t yung wmen and leaders attending Heber Valley Camp, the stake president r bishp shuld be cntacted first and then he r ne f his cunselrs shuld call and leave the message with ne f the missinaries at the camp. Camp phne numbers are (8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) r (after hurs).

5 Fires, Cking & Fuels Fires are permitted in designated fire rings ONLY. Fires must be attended at all times r extinguished cmpletely. N candles, lighter fluid, r firewrks f any kind are permitted. Firewd is prvided. Please d nt bring firewd frm hme. A hatchet r axe t split supplied firewd is recmmended. Fire restrictins may require temprary terminatin f all fires in camp. Leaders shuld review fire preventin guidelines with the yung wmen at the beginning f camp. (See Yung Wmen Camp Manual, p ) Lcate fire extinguishers in each building/cabin and teach the yung wmen their prper use. Large pavilins have a cmmercial grade kitchen and individual campsites are equipped fr cking with tw 3-burner Camp Chef prpane stves. Cking is permitted with adult supervisin unless therwise directed by the camp hst r State Fire Marshall. Prpane is prvided fr each campsite. Prpane stves and lanterns are nly t be used utside the cabins. Dutch ven cking is nly permitted in the fire rings. Discard used briquettes in the fire rings and extinguish them prperly. Fires are NOT permitted in hiking trail areas at any time fr any reasn! Additinal heaters f any type in the cabins (electric, prpane, gas, kersene, etc.) are nt permitted. Mnday Evening Devtinal Apprval has been given by current Area Seventy fr yung wmen camps t be held at Heber Valley Camp Mnday-Friday. Yung wmen s camp begins n a Mnday a day set aside by the church fr all families t have Family Hme Evening. As yu will be away frm yur family n Mnday night we encurage all wards and stakes t invlve the priesthd brethren that will be staying in yur camp t preside and cnduct a Mnday Evening Devtinal. Begin with a prayer, sing a sng and invite a yung wman r tw t give a gspel-centered lessn fllwed by a priesthd directed discussin. Please d nt invite ward members t jin yu in this Mnday Evening Devtinal. Activities Plan t administer yur camp within Heber Valley Camp bundaries. Activities ffsite are nt permitted. Sme f the activities can be scheduled in advance, and thers shuld be scheduled with yur camp hst when yu arrive at camp. Hiking There are 32 miles f hiking trails at Heber Valley Camp fr the enjyment f all campers. A Hike Plan Frm needs t be cmpleted fr the 3 and 5 mile hikes required fr certificatin. Overnight Backpack Camping When at an vernight backpacking campsite, Yuth may nt stay in the same tent as an adult unless (1) the adult is his r her parent r guardian r (2) there are at least tw adults in the tent wh are the same gender as the yuth. 6 Instructins, p.108 Sec ) Several Overnight Backpack Sites are prvided fr furth-year certificatin purpses nly. They are nt accessible by private vehicle. Reservatins required. G t View My Reservatin page. Yung wmen and leaders shuld plan t backpack in and carry all needed supplies and equipment. A Hike Plan Frm is required fr hiking t Overnight Backpack sites. A tw-way camp radi is issued by missinary camp hsts t all grups ging n vernight backpack hikes. Each site can accmmdate 35 campers. See website fr additinal infrmatin. Challenge Curse Each campsite at the Heber Valley Camp is lcated near a Challenge Curse. There are five f these special areas, designed t help teach yung wmen cnfidence and teamwrk thrugh exciting and challenging grup activities. Yung wmen grups will be autmatically scheduled fr time at the Challenge Curse. Check yur View My Reservatin page. There is a mandatry Challenge Curse training meeting n Mnday at 12:30 at yur assigned Challenge Curse. Seven capable adult yung wmen leaders must attend this meeting. Priesthd brethren are nt required t attend this meeting. These trained individuals will be required t attend all f yur Challenge Curse sessins during the week. A cmpaninship f Priesthd brethren must attend all f yur Challenge Curse sessins. There is ne high rpes event and six lw curse events n each Challenge Curse. There is a 270 lb. weight limit fr yung wmen and leaders fr the high curse event. Please handle this situatin befre cming t camp t avid embarrassment. There will be 60 yung wmen assigned t each Challenge Curse sessin. Challenge Curse sessins are 3 ½ hurs. Please arrive n time. Please print and take a cmpleted Challenge Curse Leader Assignment Frm t the Mnday training meeting. See website fr additinal infrmatin. Legacy Lake Legacy Lake is available t all campers and will remain available each seasn as lng as water levels allw. Yung wmen are encuraged t use canes when n the lake. Life jackets are prvided and must be wrn at all times while n the lake. Since the lake is clsed t swimming and wading, yung wmen and leaders will wear nrmal camp clthing (lng pants, crew neck t-shirts and clsed-te shes). Stakes shuld prvide at least 4-6 yung wmen leaders and 4 priesthd brethren. Wards shuld prvide at least 2-5 yung wmen leaders and a cmpaninship f priesthd brethren. The priesthd brethren are encuraged t help as needed. Each sessin n the lake is 1 hur and will accmmdate 120 yung wmen. Yung wmen leaders will nt be scheduled, but may be invited t participate. 7 frm the lake. Please leave early enugh that yur grup can arrive minutes early. See website fr additinal infrmatin. Service Prjects Yung wmen visiting the Heber Valley Camp are encuraged t participate in a camp service prject. These service prjects are prvided by the camp and may include tasks such as stacking wd, spreading wd-chips, etc. Prjects are designed fr up t 40 wrkers. Service prjects are limited and may cnflict with yur assigned Challenge Curse schedule. Sign up n yur View My Reservatin page. See website fr additinal infrmatin. Presentatins Heber Valley Camp has three presentatins available during the entire camping seasn. These are given by missinary cuples serving at the camp. Yu may sign up fr any r all f these ptinal 30-minute prgrams n yur View My Reservatin page. Sand Vlleyball / Hrseshes There is ne sand vlleyball curt and ne hrseshe pit at each camp. These facilities are nt scheduled by the camp. If specific days and times are desired, please crdinate with the ther campers sharing yur area. Vlleyballs and hrseshes are available; see yur missinary camp hst. Yu will have access t the vlleyball areas at Legacy Lake during yur assigned lake time. Stake / Ward Respnsibilities Yung Wmen Leaders Heber Valley Camp recmmends ne leader fr every seven yung wmen. A minimum f tw yung wmen leaders are required frm each stake/ward t stay in each cabin. If Yung Wmen leaders and yung wmen share ther vernight facilities, such as a cabin, there must be at least tw adult wmen in the facility." (Church Handbk f Instructin, p.108. Sec ) Yung wmen leaders, nt the missinaries are respnsible t ensure that participants adhere t camp prcedures and guidelines. Ensure that check-in/check-ut prcedures are fllwed. Upn arrival, Yung Wmen leaders shuld meet with their missinary camp hsts.

8 The missinary camp hsts will review the check-in and check-ut prcedures with the leaders. These prcedures are psted in each f the cabins. Additinally, the facility cleaning prcedures and instructins are psted in each cabin, restrm, ck statin and pavilin. At the cnclusin f camp, it is the leader s respnsibility t ensure that all facilities used by their grup are cleaned as utlined n the psted cleaning prcedure sheets. These areas must be checked and apprved by the missinary camp hsts prir t the departure f the grup. Cleaning supplies are prvided. Cst fr vandalism, including graffiti and brken r lst equipment, will be assessed t the respnsible stake/ward. Restrms shuld be checked twice daily fr needed supplies and cleaned nce daily by each stake/ward, as assigned by the missinary camp hst. All flrs (including stalls) shuld be swept; tilets, sinks, and shwers scrubbed; mirrrs shined and equipment returned t strage. All flrs shuld be scrubbed during the final cleaning at the end f the camp week. Cleaning supplies, including glves, are prvided. Sanitary supplies must be depsited in cans r bags, NOT in the tilets! Priesthd Brethren Priesthd brethren shuld be prepared t attend and assist with all yung wmen activities planned by their unit, including Family Hme Evening. If cming as a stake (made up f several wards), yu shuld prvide at least six Melchizedek Priesthd brethren r if cming as a single ward, yu shuld prvide at least tw Melchizedek Priesthd brethren t be with yu at camp at all times. Tw additinal priesthd brethren will be required t attend each vernight backpack hike scheduled by the stake r ward. The additinal brethren may g hme as sn as the grup rejins the stake/ward fllwing the vernight camput the next day. Priesthd brethren must be in a cmpaninship (tw r mre) at all times and at all activities while at camp. Priesthd brethren arriving after Mnday mrning need t have their names n the Late Arrival List prepared by the yung wmen unit leaders. Stake Presidents/Bishps are respnsible fr assigning the priesthd brethren wh attend Yung Wmen Camp. The main respnsibility f priesthd brethren is t assist Yung Wmen leaders with the physical safety and spiritual nature f camp. Priesthd supprt fr the adherence t camp guidelines is crucial fr the accmplishment f these bjectives. It is imprtant that the priesthd brethren attending camp make themselves available at all times t help the stake/ward Yung Wmen leaders and missinary camp hst with anything they may need. Priesthd brethren shuld abide by all camp guidelines and dress standards. Dress standards fr priesthd brethren are the same as fr yung wmen. Priesthd brethren are t wear lng pants, a mdest shirt and clse ted shes. Shrts and any kind f pen ted shes are nt permitted.

9 Priesthd brethren at camp shuld nt bring family members with them. Their fcus and attentin shuld be n the yung wmen and the prgram/activities planned by the leaders f their unit. Priesthd brethren are t stay in tents, nt with their wives. Priesthd brethren will need t bring their wn tents, pads and sleeping bags. Each campsite has tw tent sites that are 12 x 12. Sleeping in hammcks, cars, trucks, trailers and campers is nt permitted. Restrm and shwer facilities fr use nly by the brethren will be psted by the missinaries. Priesthd brethren are nt t be in yung wmen cabins, unless hlding a testimny meeting inside because f inclement weather r when a Priesthd blessing is being given. There must be at least tw priesthd brethren and ne yung wman leader tgether befre entering a cabin fr any reasn. Priesthd brethren must be married. N yung men r single men are permitted during Yung Wmen Camp (Mnday mrning thrugh Friday nn). All brethren arriving after Mnday mrning must have their names psted n the Late Arrival List prepared by yur yung wman unit leader. Priesthd Service Prjects: An invitatin t cmplete vlunteer service assignments may be extended t sme invited stakes and wards. Assignments may include cnstructing cabins, building trails, planting trees, cutting firewd r ther assigned service. This service assignment will nt be scheduled during the same week as yur scheduled stake/ward camp at Heber Valley Camp. 10 General Infrmatin abut Heber Valley Camp N air hrns allwed. Heber Valley Camp uses air hrns fr emergency signals. Camp is clsed Sundays. N camp activities will be scheduled. Each cabin can sleep up t 16 peple (8 bunk beds). A minimum f 2 yung wmen leaders are required in each cabin. Church service missinary cuples will act as missinary camp hsts fr each camp. Fd and supplies may be transprted t camp in private vehicles. After unlading, drivers will be asked t park in ne f the remte parking areas fr the duratin f camp. The altitude at camp is 7,500-10,000 feet. Weather n the muntain varies greatly. Be prepared. This is a muntain camp. There are ticks, snakes, stinging nettle, bees, and ther muntain insects and plants. There are deer, muntain lin, bear, mse and elk. Althugh the muntain trails are marked, they are rugh trails. When n the trails be alert and bserve safe hiking practices. Nails, screws, tape, tacks and staples are nt permitted fr use in r n cabins, buildings, signs r vegetatin. Yu may bring pushpins t use n bulletin bards available in each cabin and pavilin. Magnets may als be brught t hang items n metal cabin drs. Preserve natural vegetatin. D nt pick wildflwers r fliage. Water cnservatin is encuraged. Water fights are nt permitted. Please prtect tables when ding crafts and finger nails. N pets are allwed. N hammcks. Pranks are nt allwed. N helium ballns r chalk fights.
