Grand Knights Report I wish everyone a wonderful and blessed Easter as our Lenten season comes to an end. It is always a time of reflection and renewal for what Jesus gave up for us.

3 Grand Knights Report I wish everyone a wonderful and blessed Easter as our Lenten season comes to an end. It is always a time of reflection and renewal for what Jesus gave up for us. During Lent we are to take this time and reflect on the choices we have made and leaving our sins to God s mercy. We had a wonderful showing at the annual Scouting for Food on March 11 th. Food items were down a bit due to the colder weather, but our local Scouts were troopers. Our council gave out hot dogs, chips and beverages for all their hard work. Great job Scouts! Thanks to Jeff Reiter for coordinating this event and showing how the KC s support our Cub and Boy Scouts. April is a very busy month ahead with some wonderful opportunities for community awareness and fraternal teamwork. Please be sure to sign-up and donate a couple hours of your time towards giving out Tootsie Rolls the weekend of April 21st, and after Masses. This is an event for great awareness and financial support for people with intellectual disabilities / special needs. We have an incredibly busy weekend of April 21 st. Unfortunately, many great events all fell on this weekend- Tootsie Roll Drive, our new fundraiser opportunity-beer, Wine, and Cheese Fest (helping cleanup (Thanks to Tom Hundt for snagging this one for us!), and of course our Annual Appreciation Banquet. Don t forget about these other upcoming events: Statewide Charity Raffle-Now through mid-april. If anyone is interested in purchasing tickets or helping sell more tickets, please contact Gregg Randall at gardar970@gmail.com. Please be sure to drop off your sold or unsold tickets as soon as possible so they make it to the State Convention. Annual Tootsie Roll Drive-is set for April 21-22nd. This is great awareness for people with intellectual disabilities. To help volunteer your time for this great fundraiser please contact Todd Knutson ( ), Mike Bruha ( ), or Gregg Randall ( ) for available times. They are still looking for people to fill spots at Holmen Festival or Onalaska Walmart. Our annual Appreciation Banquet is now set for Sunday, April 23rd at Drugan s Castle Mound Supper Club again, since it worked well last year. Help us to celebrate our 31 st year as a council. Annual Card Party will be Saturday, April 29 rd after 5:00 pm Mass. Always a great time for parishoners, youth group, and the KC s to get together and play some Texas Hold em, Eukure for some fun and bragging rights. New will be some additional board games for those not interested in cards Remember any little bit of time you can donate always makes a difference to someone in need, whether it be financial, food, spiritual, or just lending an ear to listen. As always, thank you all for your help, generosity, and support for all that represents the Knight of Columbus and may we continue to strive to support our community, our faith and our fraternity through out this Year of Mercy and our 30 th anniversary year. Leadership opportunities abound We are approaching that time of year for elections of officers and we need YOU! I, as your Grand Knight, am coming to the end of my two year term and will not be extending my term. Unfortunately, our Deputy Grand Knight, Jeff Hammes is not moving forward into the Grand Knight position, due to a busy work schedule. So our council is in great need of worthy 3rd Degree Knights to step up and take an active role in our council. We will be there to help guide any new leaders willing to take on these roles, as have our past Grand Knights. We pray for those worthy Knights of strong mind and spirit to take on this great opportunity. The Tootsie Roll Drive is really a Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities. The nickname is due to the nature of the fundraiser, in which Knights distribute specially marked Tootsie Rolls in exchange for donations used to support programs geared to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. Financial support and volunteering is an opportunity for the Knights of Columbus to make a direct impact on the quality of life of individuals with intellectual disabilities, and a meaningful contribution within our communities. Getting involved offers opportunities for us to have the experience and satisfaction of helping those less fortunate to develop and succeed in life! The Knights commitment to hundreds of grassroots programs for people with intellectual disabilities is an expression of its belief in the intrinsic worth of every human being.

It is not burial cloths that we are to see, but we are invited to see the great power of love over sin and death. In seeing the greatness of this power, we are to witness to this love in all those we encounter within the world. example, visiting the sick and the elderly, in a world that is surround by ignorance and fear, we at to be a people unafraid and certain of the saving power of God's love... A LIGHTER NOTE TO OPEN A couple of weeks ago a news story talked about the opening of the tomb of Jesus, and a surprise they found inside, the top responses were as followed from readers; They found It was empty. You think that angel was going to sit around forever and say I told you so. FACTS, PROMISES, and FAITH Have you ever considered what the Resurrection means to you personally, in the advance computer age we have the power to look that up and find so many meaning from others. I spent some time looking for something to write or print and after reading about 20 plus insights from others it was hard to choose any one person s insights. Then I remember what a teacher of mine at Viterbo University had to say. Sister Arita Dopkins FSPA through a number of (classes / courses) on the bible I remember these three words Facts, Promises, and Faith the most meaningful. She carefully went through all (FP & F) in the Old and New Testaments. The highlight of (FP & F) all lead to the Resurrection and beyond for all, and nothing has changed in all that time. MOVIES To my followers of movies I was asked for suggestions for the Easter Season, all I can say the standards are these (King of Kings) (The Greatest Story Ever Told) and of course the little seen (The Gospel According to St Matthew) an epic that was a flash in the pan when released and never caught on even as a TV great. For some time TV would run (The Ten Commandments) but it really has nothing to do with Easter. There is a new film called (Risen) could be a bit of a hard watch there are a couple of questionable things in the film, it opens fast paced and looks promising but it loses it fast in the story line. And of course there is the widely popular film by Mel Gibson (Passion of the Christ) of course this film may not be for the entire family. Mel also has a project in the works with a working title called (Resurrection) There is one film to consider if you really want to waste your time a new star called Paul Newman was in this film. Paul Newman was apparently not proud of his performance. When the film was broadcast on TV in 1966, he took out an ad in a Hollywood trade paper apologizing for his performance, and requesting people not to watch the film. The film is called (The Silver Chalice) a great line up of star s for its time, and epic to say the least, I remember watching it the first time on TV in 66 and can only say I wasted several hours of sleep time I could have had. In the end I still watch it on TV if TCM will play it, it just not one of those things I ever put in my collection unless it s a gift. END NOTES With the elections of officers coming up please say yes if you are called upon to serve. It really will not take up much of your time, and the social functions are a good get together for all. I m sure we will be called upon to be part of the honor / color guard for services at the Cathedral during Holy Week and Easter Sunday. Happy Easter!
