Currently, I teach a 6th grade CCD class and serve as a reader during mass. We moved to Holmen in January of 2016 and were touched by the friendly and open people at St. Elizabeth. My wife, Angie, works as an 8th grade math teacher at Holmen Middle School, and I teach high school English up in Alma. Our two children, Addie (7) and Thorson (5), attend elementary school at Viking and are active in activities like karate, gymnastics, and swimming lessons. Angie and I enjoy running, reading, and cooking. We also enjoy long summer vacations with our family; this year we plan to travel along the gulf coast through the month of June. I'm excited to be a part of the Knights to help give back to the community that has given me so much these last three years. I'm also looking for ways to deepen my faith and better understand and witness how God works in all of our lives. I'm honored to be part of such a great group of guys, and I look forward to getting to know each of you better as the years go by. Check out our Google Calendar on our website. February Knight of the Month Emil Meindl For his continued efforts with the Newsletter, and providing us the faith opportunities. And for all he does for our parish. February Family of the Month Mary Clark and Barbara Lokken These 2 wonderful women have sorted, washed and mended clothing all year long for our Caring and Sharing at the parish. They also help with the Bazaar, Lefse and pie making as well as the Annual Rummage Sale.

Video Game Tournament Over 50 youth came to play, dance and eat their way to a championship game of Mario Kart. On behalf of the Knights and the Youth offices of St. Elizabeth and St. Pat s in Onalaska, we were honored in bringing this event together as a combined effort for our youth. Here are a few pics and stay tuned for an Elementary gamers event coming soon!! Scouting For Food Report Our counts were down significantly this year; the looming lousy weather I believe contributed to both lower scout participation and the down count. Still, It was an excellent opportunity for the Scouts to give back to the community for their support and for the Knights to offer a little gratitude to those who work to make our community a community of goodness. The food and stuff collected will go those who need it, and that is what counts most. Thank you again for all the Knights that helped and supported the drive. A special thank you to Greg and Bobbi Corcoran, Jeff Hammes, Dave Hawes, Mike Paoli, Joe LaMere, and Brian Clements for their service in helping the Scouts and their families and making them all feel welcome in our parish home. Moreover, Thank you to all the food pantry staff who tireless work to serve this ministry. The items collected during Scouting for Food go to our many broken and strained neighbors whose live the realities of life in our community. It is an effort that supplies goodwill to both participant and recipient alike; extending a hand of hope to all in our community. Vivat Jesus Jeff Reiter

Seminarian Report Dear Brother Knights: This year is going by fast. It is already midterms and classes are running full boar. It cannot believe that I have less than two months left in college and then I move on to Major Seminary in Rome. In looking back over the past 4 years, I have received numerous graces from our Lord. The biggest of all these graces is coming to know and behold that I am a son of the Father in Heaven. As a Father, God loves each one of us individually and completely. Jesus shows us that the Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him (John 3:35). Just like with the parable of the prodigal son, the Father gives His entire self to each one of us; His prodigal children. My identity is a son of God. What does that mean? It means that everything that I do, everything that I say, everything that moves me to do anything does not define who I am. As Saint John Paul II said, You are not the sum of your fears and failings, no. You are the sum of the Father s love for you. This truth struck my heart to the core. It showed me that my life is in the Fathers hands and that my sin is inconsequential to His love for me. I went on a five day silent retreat at the beginning of this semester in Birmingham, Alabama. It was a time to reorient my life to Jesus and re-recognize my identity as a son. So much pain was healed. My thirst was quenched. It really set the tone for this semester and for life moving forwards. Classes are going well. I am taking my senior capstone Philosophy course the Philosophy of God. I am beginning to write my final paper and am really excited to see where this class goes. I am also taking my final computer science course which is Advanced Information Security (a.k.a. hacking). I really enjoy this class as well. I am taking my final Catholic Studies course which is basically a seminar on Work and Leisure and what that relationship should be like. Finally, I am also taking my final core class as well. I am taking Human Geography, which is the study of why people live where they live. We just completed our intramural basketball league in the seminary and sadly my floor lost before we made it to the championship. It was a fantastic time. Our floor really came together as a team and finished as one of the best teams in the league. This year on Saint Patrick s Day, eight of us joined the little sisters of the poor and the residents of their nursing home in being a part of the St. Paul Saint Patrick s Day Parade. It was a wonderful time. I sat next to a 90 year old nun who cracked jokes the whole time. We also had a great time meeting the residents even more when we had lunch with them. It was wonderful to get to hear the great stories that these people have from when they were my age. The Knights of Columbus are preparing for our First Annual 3 on 3 Basketball tournament this semester. We plan on having teams from campus join and participate in the games to help bring the school together. It has been a wonderful time to be the Grand Knight of the UST Knights of Columbus. I pray all is well. Keep me and my brother seminarians in your prayers. We definitely need them. May God Bless you all!! Vivat Jesu! Jared Clements Seminarian for the Diocese of La Crosse

Liturgical Focus This Month After our solemn commemoration of the last days and death of Our Lord we will spend the month of April celebrating. As Spring breaks forth even nature will join us as buds and blooms begin to surface and we spend this month basking in the joy of the Resurrection. We continue throughout the entire month our cry, "Christ is risen, Christ is truly risen." The Feast of Divine Mercy offers us the opportunity to begin again as though we were newly baptized. The unfathomable mercy of God is made manifest today if we but accept His most gracious offer. Easter is the feast of feasts, the unalloyed joy and gladness of all Christians. This truly is "the day that the Lord has made." From Sunday to Sunday, from year to year, the Easters of this earth will lead us to that blessed day on which Christ has promised that He will come again with glory to take us with Him into the kingdom of His Father.. The saints that we will focus on this month those who have already shared in the rewards of the Resurrection are St. Francis of Paola (April 2), St. Isidore (April 4), St. Vincent Ferrer (April 5), St. Stanislaus (April 11), St. Martin I (April 13), St. Bernadette (April 16), St. Catherine of Siena (April 29) and St. Pius V (April 30). The feast of St. John Baptist de la Salle (April 7) falls on Sunday so is superseded the Sunday liturgy.the feasts of St. Anselm (April 21), St. George and St. Adalbert (April 23), St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen (April 24), St. Mark (April 25), Our Lady of Good Counsel (April 26) and St. Louis Mary de Montfort and St. Peter Chanel (April 28) are superseded by the Easter Week liturgy. Iron Sharpens Iron Thanks for sharing Joe LaMere! We discussed the physical passion of Jesus beginning in Gethsemane with his initial suffering of the bloody sweat. This phenomenon of Hematidrosis happens under great emotional stress when the tiny capillaries in the sweat glands break thus making the blood mix with the sweat. It is even more interesting that this aspect is only mentioned by St. Luke, the physician. Proverbs 27:17 During this Lenten Season, I had been asked by Pat Brueggen to present to the the 7th grade and 10th grade CCD classes. I was not sure if I was ready to talk to the young people of parish about my journey and how I have made the Passion of Jesus real in my life through a glimpse of the medical evidence exhibited toward Jesus. We discussed with them my real Lenten journey with Jesus from the Agony in Garden from his Journey to his death on the Cross. We talked about not only the story of the Passion that we hear on Palm Sunday and Good Friday but the trial and tribulations of what really happened to Jesus mental and physically for our sins. Our class began by asking one of the students to hold a hundred and ten pounds of kettlebells at waist level. If the student needed help they were able to ask a fellow student to give them a break. This represented the cross beam weighing about 110 pounds that Jesus carried to his execution. His fellow student represented Simon of Cyrene. After about 4 minutes, the students put the weight down as they found if difficult to hold. As Jesus continued his Journey battered, bruised, dehydrated and exhausted from a sleepless night. Jesus scourged and sentenced to death by crucifixion after being taunted by mob that only before had proclaimed him king on Palm Sunday. We showed the students an example of the flagellum used by the Roman legionnaire used at the scouring and number of lashes Jesus was given. We showed an example of the crown of thorns and cap style that Jesus was given and talked about this punishment We continued our discussion of Jesus s journey along the Via Dolorosa along the uneven, unpaved, animal used roads. We talked about the pain that he must have been in with the rough wood of the beam on his shoulders. Upon arriving to Golgotha, the class discussion turned to the crucifixion and the high degree of efficiency and skill the Roman Soldiers had in nail placement and pain. Our discussion concluded with talking about Jesus s strength, stamina, and willingness to go through this terrible endeavor and how grateful we can be to know that our God loves us so much that he gave his only Son, Jesus, to us for the miracle of the atonement for our sins and the expectation of the triumphant Easter morning.

Faith/Education The Deadline is Here! No April General Meeting due to the KC Banquet. For our faith/education session at our May General Meeting we will watch "Why Confess My Sins to a Priest?" by Fr. Michael Schmitz. Here is the link to the Video: spmvpw. (Turn on closed caption, Father Mike speaks very fast!) Thank you to all our Brother Knights that have bought raffle tickets and/or sold raffle tickets! Every ticket counts! As of 3/27/19, our council has sold 544 tickets. Last year our council sold 848 tickets, so let s try to beat that. We still have a few weeks to sell to meet that target. Remember for every $5.00 raffle ticket sold, our council receives $2.00 back! And it all goes towards Charity, both at the State level and our Council. Our March General Meeting we had a guest speaker. His name is Jeff Reinhart, Director of Catholic Cemeteries, of the Diocese of La Crosse. Jeff spoke about Catholic Cemeteries. If you haven t returned your State Charity Raffle ticket stubs and money, the deadline for the State Charity Raffle is Sunday, APRIL 15th. Remember the education starts promptly at 7:00 pm, so come early. A Welcoming Sign Soon a new beautiful new brick structure with a message board will be welcoming parishioners and guests as they enter into the St Elizabeth Church parking lot. The Knights have led the way on this project along with significant help from the Hurburters and PCCW groups through many fund-raising activities over the years. It will be a stand-alone structure that will be located as you enter the parking lot and also will be seen clearly for passers by to know what events are happening at St E s. Construction should be started sometime in May or early June with completion of landscaping done in early July. More details later. You can send your completed tickets to PO Box 492, Holmen, WI You can also drop them off in the Knight s mailbox in the church office or bring them to the next meeting. If you want more tickets to purchase or sell to your family and friends, we have some available at St Elizabeth s or give me a call. Thank you for supporting this great, charitable program. David Hawes State Raffle Chairman Deadline is April 15th! Raffle Drawing is April 27th
