Runners & walkers enjoyed a cool foggy morning and made for an excellent run and walk. This is our Council s biggest and most demanding Fund Raiser and your help was appreciated. My kudos to the experienced team of Knights mixing in a few new rookies to make this one of the easier runs from the organizational side of things. Thank you to many of you for communicating early that you would be able to help. Big thanks to: Greg Corcoran, Jeff Wershoffen, and Richard Cantlon for being there at 5 am to get the road set up started. Solid like a rock volunteerism awards goes to Mike Nelson, Terry Hubert, Joe La Mere, Jeff Reiter, Brian, Sara Clements and Mike Paoli. Of course, can t say enough thanks to Janet and Judy and all the gals who do the back room work of getting all the award recitipants in right categories for the award ceremonial. A special note to our Holmen Police Department as they were very helpful as the road construction issues were handled perfectly. Awesome thank you to all our sponsors and runners who make this event profitable so we can use the funds to help others. Charity Unity- Fraternalism Brother Gary Dvoracek Holmen Knights of Columbus 2017 Kornfest Breakfast Recap Thank you to all those that helped out with our very busy weekend of KornFest. Many hands made the work almost effortless. I am very grateful to see so many Knights and their families, parishioners, and our very important youth group pitching in to make our 2017 KornFest Breakfast a success. Special thanks goes to Len Beranek for providing the sausage links to go with our Biscuits & Gravy. Another thank you goes to Todd Knutson for taking the time to get our volunteers together. We were able to bring in a little over $1, to help with our various programs and causes, so your efforts are very worth all the hard work that goes into this fundraiser and our KornFest Fun Run. I know everyone has a busy schedule nowadays with work, family, and school events already kicking in this time of year, so we are truly grateful for each and everyone s help and support. Thank you, David Hawes, Breakfast Coordinator Adopt-A-Highway cleanup on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 on 9/24. We ll meet at the church parking lot. After the cleanup, we ll have a gathering at Features to watch the 3:30. (The picture is the clean up crew in 2012.)

Grand Knight State of the Council Report Brother Knights and Sir Knights of Council 9385 Be advised, as of this date, August 27, 2017, I an resigning as Grand Knight, Tootsie Roll Chair and State Charity Raffle Chair for the Father John Rossiter-St Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Council It has been my Honor and Privilege to be of Service to One...Service to ALL. VIVAT JESUS! VIVA CRISTO REY! Sir Knight Gregg Randall Deputy Grand Knights Report Brother Knights! Where did the summer go?! So much fun hosting events such as the Kornfest Fun Run, breakfast, and the soccer challenge! Thanks to all the Knights and their families for making these events possible, without them what we do in Charity would never become possible. With all the time invested hosting the KC events over the past month, it may have been difficult to make room for other faith building events. I know many people took vacations and as Catholics, it is always wonderful to find different churches while on vacation to attend Sunday masses and other days of holy obligation like August 15th the Assumption of Mary. September is upon us and St. Elizabeth s is always in need of people to help out with CCD. Whether it is being Catechist, hall monitor, road patrol, or tot distribution it is always wonderful to have volunteers. If you are interested in serving our Lord through these ministries, please contact the parish offices. We are currently looking at different ways to engage our Knights to Fraternity in prayer and other activities which could include a beverage or 2. An idea we are thinking about, is taking a group of Knights and traveling to St. John Vianney Seminary in the future to join the seminarian s KC Meeting. And then take them to dinner and hang out with them. As we know more we will provide more details. Every day faith is awesome and challenging and we have Jesus Christ leading us. Until next time iviva Cristo Ray! (Long Live Christ the King) Brian Clements, Deputy Grand Knight Pedal To Pray Bike/Walk Weekend / September 9/10 Join us by walking or biking to any Mass that weekend. The new bike racks have been installed at St. Elizabeth s for your use. See you then. Ben asks Ken: What do you call 53 millionaires sitting around a TV watching the Super Bowl? A: The Chicago Bears. Fred says to Gary. Q: What do the Vikings and the Post Office have in common? A: Neither deliver on Sundays! In loving memory of George Hammes The Hammes Family In Memory of the Deceased Members of the Barlow & Haymaker Families Patrick & Lila Barlow Page 3 SEPTEMBER 2017
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Our KC Soccer Challenge was a great success. We had 64 sharp Strikers and many volunteers, without the sharp Strikers and volunteers this event wouldn't have been a success! Our local Champions are: Girls: 9 yrs Isabella Cromhacke, 10 yrs - Abby Daigle, 11 yrs Alani Vue, 13 yrs Elle Stussy, and 14 yrs Chloe Lichucki. Boys: 9 yrs Caden Schams, 10 yrs - Joe Meeter, 11 yrs Sam Bruske, 12 yrs Sam Wurster, and 13 yrs Carter Fritsch. Thank you Volunteers! Gregg Randall, Joe LaMere, Fred Lanzel, Pat Barlow and his daughter, Joe and Isabel Antoni, Sara, Jacob, and Jenna Clements, Ethan Faucet, Mike Larson, Dave Hawes, Joe Meehan and his grandson Derek Lenz. Special thanks goes out to the VYSA (Viking Youth Soccer Association)! For without this fine organization this event would not have been as successful! Tom Ladwig, DD, District 25 My brother Knights, I want to thank you for the warm welcome that I have received as I have visited your Councils, and I pray for your continued support as I begin my journey as your District Deputy. I would also like to thank former DD and current District Warden Bill Jaekel for his guidance and assistance in my journey. Good News! For the second year in a row, Wisconsin has won the Circle of Honor Award for achieving 100% of its membership goals! The bad news is that District 25 is at -3 for this fraternal year. Let s all try to recruit a new member this year. St Patrick s in Onalaska is hosting a 2nd and 3rd Degree ceremony on October 1st (the Packers are not playing that day). There have been several questions about agents covering our District. I have attached a list of all of the agents in the La Crosse Diocese. It looks like the field agent for all of District 25, except the La Crosse Council, is Larry Anderson La Crosse is covered by Larry Helgerson. The General Agent is: Ed Knolmayer, FICF General Agent 200 E. Elm Street, Suite K of C River Falls, WI
There are Four Pillars of Formation used in the seminary to help our seminarians in the process of discernment. The Four Pillars of Formation are Human, Spiritual, Intellectual, and Pastoral. You could write a book about each of these pillars in depth to understand the topics, but I will try to keep it short and sweet and to point over the next four months. This month I will focus on the Human Formation Pillar. Generally speaking, Human Formation deals with 1) counseling, 2) fraternity, participation in seminary events and formation, 3) rest, diet, and exercise, 4) hygiene and cleanliness, 5) dress code, and 6) alcohol and illegal drugs. A seminarian s Formation Advisor and Spiritual Director assist in all areas of formation, but there are times when more focused care is needed to counsel the seminar using psychotherapy. Counseling is not a weakness, rather counseling should be viewed as an opportunity to assist the seminarian in an important and sometimes overlooked aspect of formation. Common themes in counseling could be how to deal with people or conflict, understanding oneself to better the people around you, etc. Seems like something everyone should go through. Building a fraternity is a priority, just like it is with the Knights of Columbus. Seminarian brothers need to pray for and with one another. They need to set aside time for common prayer and social interaction (i.e. designed night prayer, rosary, periodic dinners, etc.) This fraternity is a way for the Seminarians to continue to build on their relationships. A very important part of the path of a seminarian is working on getting enough rest, having the right diet, and the proper amount of exercise helps the seminarians care for the body, the temple of the Holy Spirit. Sustained failure to personally address these important areas of formation while in the seminary may result in a request for them to take a leave of absence and properly address these issues outside of the seminary. Care for the temple of the Holy Spirit also means keeping oneself clean, neat and presentable. Seminarians need to recognize the important link between sharing or handing faith and the presentable or approachable demeanor of the person doing the sharing. They should never allow oneself to become a block to the message of Jesus Christ because be of lack of personal hygiene, or because of improper grooming. Dress code is also important! You will see seminarians wearing cassocks and surplus when serving mass. A cassock is the long black gown and a surplus is the white cape you may see priests and deacons wear. These help seminarians remember who they are and what they are discerning. Seminarians under the lawful drinking age are not to indulge in alcohol. Those who are of legal drinking age must drink responsibly and appropriately. Any misuse of alcohol will result in a ban on all further use of alcohol while they are a seminary and require an alcohol assessment. Any illegal drug is forbidden. Misuse of this formation will be treated seriously and may result in dismissal from the seminary. I hope you found this interesting! Until next time. iviva Cristo Ray! (Long Live Christ the King) Brian Clements, Deputy Grand Knight The KC Council asked Anthony.. Q: How do you know the Pennsylvania State Police are seriously enforcing the Speed Limits into Philadelphia. I don t know..why? A: For the first offense, they give you two Eagles tickets. If you get stopped a second time, they make you use them. Q: What does an Philadelphia Eagles fan do when his team has won the Super Bowl? A: He turns off the PlayStation 3. Q: What's the difference between Philadelphia Eagles fans and mosquitoes? A: Mosquitoes are only annoying in the summer. Enough picking of the Eagles. What about the kittycats? Q: How many Detroit Lions does it take to win a Super Bowl? A: Nobody knows and we may never find out! IN MEMORY OF WILLIAM and EMMA DVORACEK MONSIGNOR DELBERT J. MALIN our priest is someone s son. Your son could be someone s priest. IN MEMORY OF SANDRA BERANEK
Dear Knights of Columbus: This summer went by very fast. Before you know it, I will be 21 and back in school. Even though it went by so fast, many great memories took place. In June, I had the opportunity to go to Adventure Camp for the tenth year in a row. It was one of the best years that I have ever experienced faith wise. The kids there wanted to learn so much about the faith. There were four seminarians at camp this year Isaac Pecha, Joseph Pyka, Sam McCarty, and myself. The kids really latched on to all the seminarians which allowed us to have some amazing conversations about the faith and just having a great time. Eucharistic Adoration is the high point of the week; it is the encapsulating event of the week. Every camper seemed to have a great experience (meeting Jesus face to face tends to do that). In July, I went on the Diocesan Mission Trip to Gatlinburg TN where we helped those who were devastated by a huge forest fire. While we were there, we cleaned ash from devastated buildings, we worked at a thrift store and a food pantry, and we also helped an older woman move into a new home. As always, we out worked our work that we were given. Over the years, I have been on six mission trips through the Diocese and every time we have done the same thing: people do not understand the work ethic of the Midwest. This trip was also amazing in regards to the faith of the youth. There was a group of about ten that consistently join me and another seminarian in praying the liturgy of the hours. They also had tons of questions about the church and vocations. I pray that all the youth ton the trip experienced our Lord in some way on that trip. In August, I was very busy. The first week was the Priest for Tomorrow dinner followed by the Summer Seminarian Gathering. The Gathering is a time for the seminarians to just relax with each other and grow together as brothers. During that gathering, we went to Green Bay to see the three shrines: Our Lady of Good Help, St. Joseph s National Shrine, and Lambeau Field. Bishop Callahan came with us on this trip. It was great to see him in Green Bay, especially being from Chicago and thus a diehard Bears fan. During the trip, I really came to know my brothers better and had a blast. Other events that I was a part of was the Clergy Golf outing (which my team won), the Marshfield Deanery Vocations Guild Dinner, and the Threshold Retreat. The Threshold Retreat is a Decrement Retreat for those who are juniors in high school up through college aged students to get an idea of what seminary is like. I brought four guys from Saint John Vianney College Seminary to come help with the retreat and have a great time. One thing that I have really learned over this summer is that one cannot force someone to do anything; only the person who is open to doing something can something happen. This has been made clear through seminary and life in general this summer and I pray that we all become more docile to the will of God and what he has in store for us. These days seem to only go faster and faster. Before you know it, it will be spring semester and I will be in Rome. God Bless you all!! iviva Cristo Ray! Jared Clements Seminarian for the Diocese of La Crosse Enjoy the new School Year! Pete Tabor Our Holmen Council #9385 website is located through the following address. knights-of-columbus.html Honor Guard. On Wednesday, September 20, 2017 the relics of Saint Padre Pio will be on display and veneration at St Joseph the Workman Cathedral. The Bishop has requested that the Honor Guard be present to guard the relics and for the procession for Mass, The relics will be displayed in the Marian Chapel. Msgr. Stoetzel will do a short presentation of the relics at 9:00am at which time veneration for the public will begin. Veneration will continue the entire day from 9:00am until 6:30 pm when we will stop to prepare for the 7:00 pm Mass. We envisioned that the Knights would be on the step of the altar on either side of the relics or one on both sides. There will also be a volunteer in the main isle helping with the traffic flow. We will need several Knights to help on this one so please make every effort to be available for this event, chairs will be available so we don t have to stand. Please answer the calls or s from Commander Miller when he calls. Happy Birthdays Emma and Mike! Fred & Cheryl
