As we welcome in a new year, and look for things to improve on let s think about how we can help our council grow by helping others lead their events. We have many events we do each year, and these events don t get completed without a few members leading the way. Please find it in your heart to find a way to help us out by leading and/or participate in an event. Please review the list below and let me know which ones you can help us out with. Also, let me know if you see any that I may have missed, or you think would be good to do. Fun Fact: Fr. Parr asked our CCD class, when does the Christmas Season Officially end? Answer is the Sunday after the Epiphany the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord! Let s have a wonderful 2019! Rochester, 88, of Holmen passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, at Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Cecil (shown with his wife Norene) was a 25 year member of the Holmen Knights of Columbus joining in Cecil was a Korean War Army Veteran and worked on the Burlington Northern Railroad for 44 years. He always helped at Knights fundraisers and was usually at the KC breakfasts working at the door selling tickets ( shown in picture with Leo Dummer in 2005). For all he does as a Trustee, and helping out the Church as a reader. Be careful playing cards with the Magic Man!! Family of the Month Patrick and Family For all of their help with the Christmas Bazaar, many other events, and all they do as a family for our Parish. They are always willing to help to serve our Lord!

4 Christmas Poster Contest Winners The theme for the Christmas Poster was The true meaning of Christmas. Participants could use markers, paint, crayons, colored pencils, r pen and ink. All were judged on artistic quality, originality and expression of the theme. Thanks Tom Hundt for running the contest this year! Congratulations to our Council for winning the Columbia award for This award was presented at my last District 25 meeting on December 6, I received the award on behalf of our past Grand Knight Joe LeMere at my last District 25 meeting on December 6, This award recognizes excellence in your council s programming and charitable outreach. Councils must conduct and report at least four major programs in each of the Service Program categories: Faith, Family, Community, and Life. Many thanks goes out to our Council for winning this award!

6 Liturgical Focus This Month The month of January is dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus, which is celebrated on January 3. The first eight days of January fall during the liturgical season known as Christmas which is represented by the liturgical color white. The remaining days of January are the beginning of Ordinary Time. The liturgical color changes to green a symbol of the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven In the first part of January we continue to rejoice and celebrate Christ's coming at Bethlehem and in our hearts. We have the wonderful feasts of Mary, Mother of God, where we honor Mary's highest title, and then we follow the Magi to the crib as they bring their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh on Epiphany. Finally we reach the culmination of this season with the Baptism of Our Lord by St. John the Baptist. With a touch of sadness we take down our decorations and enter into the liturgical period known as Ordinary Time where we will devote ourselves to the mystery of Christ in its entirety. This is a time of growth and an opportunity to allow the dignity of Sunday to shine forth prolonging the joy of Easter and Pentecost. Besides those previously mentioned the month's major feasts include: St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory Nazianzen (January 2), Holy Name of Jesus (January 3), St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (January 4), St. John Neumann(January 5), St. Raymond of Penafort (January 7), St. Anthony, abbot (January 17), St. Agnes (January 21), St. Vincent of Saragossa (January 23), St. Francis de Sales (January 24), the Conversion of St. Paul (January 25), Sts. Timothy and Titus (January 26), St. Thomas Aquinas (January 28) and St. John Bosco (January 31). The feasts of St. Andre Bessette (January 6), Sts. Fabian and Sebastian (January 20) and St. Angela Merici (January 27) are superseded by the Sunday liturgy. Free Throw Contest We had a great turnout for this years Free Throw Contest (50 contestants). Thank you to the many Knights and their families who helped us out once again. In addition we had many high schoolers help out as well. Here are the winners. 7 State Charity Raffle Last year the State Charity raised over $500,000 which was then given back to families in need throughout WIsconsin. For every ticket we sell our council receives $2. Last year, we raised over $1,800 to help families in our local community. I know we can do better this year if everyone pitches in! You will be receiving your raffle tickets soon. You can return your completed tickets in the enclosed envelope, bring them to the next meeting, or drop them off in the Knight s mailbox in the church office.
