GK Joe along with other members of our council and families delivered a check for $1,500 to Bobbi and Greg Corcoran from the State Charity Grant. Glory be to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These are the only words appropriate for the blessings we have received from our Parish Family and Friends. The Cemo surgery and recovery have been difficult. The prognosis is great. 3 Grand Knights Report Dear Brother Knights, Happy New Year! It is my sincere hope this last Advent and Christmas Season was a joyous and blessed time for you and your families. As a council, we continued to be busy preparing for Christmas. Knights handed out our Keep Christ in Christmas signs and car magnets after mass. Through Sir Peter Tabor efforts, we were able to provide our annual Christmas lunch for about 35 seniors this last month. Brothers Sir Peter, Sir Tom Hundt, Sir Fred Lanzel and his wife, Cheryl, Sir Greg Randall, Sir Michael Bruha, and Brother Todd Knutson joined some of our neighbors and friends for hosting The Senior Nutrition Lunch at the Village of Holmen s Community room. Tom Hundt and I delivered supplies to the children of our parish for participation in the Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest. We are delighted to see the great work and creativity of our young people in this program. Our Council was able to obtain two $1500 Wisconsin State Council Knights of Columbus Charity Checks. The checks were presented to the Greg and Bobbi Corcoran Family to help with Bobbi s medical cost and to the Paul and Bobbi Medinger Family for Felix s medical cost. These wonderful Christmas Gifts were possible because our Knights and Families hard work selling State Charity Raffle Tickets over the past year. You should have received your 2018 raffle tickets, please take the time to sell or purchase these tickets as each ticket sold makes a difference in someone s life. Herb and Fred at Rotary Lights Pictures from the KC sponsored Senior Lunch held at the Holmen nutrition Site in December 2017 Coming up this month, we have our designated work day on Friday, January 5th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Rotary Lights, please contact Joe La Mere ( ) if you can assist. Our annual Free Throw Contest for kids ages will be Friday, January 12 at Prairie View Elementary School beginning at 6:00 pm. If you have not done so, please give Brother Brian Clements a call to help ( ). Remember that just being there will bring life to our principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity as well as many hands make the workload lite. Sir Knight David Hawes is getting our Super Bowl Breakfast (February 4) planning in to high gear. Please help Dave out by giving him a call ( ) and confirm your spot to assist in this fantastic community event. Our next General Council Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, January 14th at 7:00 pm at St. Elizabeth s Gathering space. 4 Deputy Grand Knights Report Brother Knights! January 2018! Say goodbye to 2017 and hello to 2018! It was a very stellar year once again. A big thanks to all the Knights and their families in helping our council with many events throughout These events included: Free Throw Contest, Super Bowl Breakfast, Charity Raffle, Tootsie Roll Drive, Freedom Fest, Wine and Cheese Fest, Soccer Challenge, Kornfest Run, Kornfest Breakfast, Nativity Setup, Christmas Party, Nativity Teardown, Meet the Seminarian Trip, etc will bring many more opportunities to help our Knights by allowing our faith to guide us. Some of the up-and-coming events from our Diocese: March of Life in Chicago (January 14), Pilgrim for Life in Washington DC (Jan 17 through 21), Catholic School is the last week in January, Day of Prayer for Life (Jan 22 from 11:00am - 1:30pm at the Shrine of Guadalupe), and Before You Leave your Marriage Webinar (Jan 25 from 7-8 pm). As you can see, with all the normal scheduled events in addition to our Diocese events, there is much to look forward to. (Long Live Christ the King) Brian Clements, Deputy Grand Knight Life of a Seminarian Last month we finished up the 4th Pillar of Formation which is Pastoral Formation, which consists of Pastoral Education and Preaching. It was a pleasure to walk through this journey with each of you over the past few months. There is so much more to the Life of a Seminarian and if you are interested to learn more, please let me know! I will continue providing articles to entice you and if you know someone who would make a great Seminarian, please contact Father Alan Wierzba and/or Father Billy Dodge. 5 The 2018 State Charity Raffle Tickets Are Here! Father John Rossiter Council 9385 and the Wisconsin State Council of the Knights of Columbus are currently selling raffle tickets for the 2018 Charity Raffle. The prize list consists of $115,000 being paid to thirty winners with a first prize of $50,000! The second prize is $25,000 or a 2018 Harley Low Rider S. The third prize is $15,000or a Travel Lead Cruise, the fourth and fifth prize is $5,000 each, the sixth through tenth prize is $1,000 each, and the eleventh through thirtieth prize is $500 each. This is the largest raffle in the State of Wisconsin for a $5.00 price. The drawing will take place at the State Convention on Saturday, April 28, 2017 at the Madison Marriot West in Middleton, Wi. The proceeds from this raffle are used to help support your brother Knights and their families, along with other members of our community, to alleviate sorrow, ease financial burdens and restore hope to victims and families of accidents and illness. Over the years, this raffle has allowed our Council to distribute thousands of dollars to local families in need. We would appreciate your best efforts to buy or sell at least 10 tickets. If you need more tickets, please contact me. Please return your completed ticket stubs in the enclosed envelope, bring them to the next meeting, or drop them off in the Knight s mailbox in the parish office at St. Elizabeth-Ann Seton. My 60 year kindergarten reunion is coming up soon and I m worried about the 175 pounds I ve gained since then.. *I read that 4,153,237 people got married last year. Not to cause any trouble, but shouldn't that be an even number? SPORTSMEN NIGHT AND WILD GAME FEED If you're an avid outdoorsmen, hunter, or simply enjoy a tasty meal of wild game, we have a very special event for you. The ST. ELIZABETH'S HUBERTERS will be holding their third annual Sportsmen Night and Wild Game Feed. This group was formed in an effort to raise money for St. Elizabeth s parish and surrounding communities. Since its conception in 2016, we have donated back over $35,000 to church building projects and families in need in our own parish and in the surrounding area. Our third annual event will be held Sat., Feb. 17, 2018, from 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m., at the Holmen American Legion with doors opening at 4:00 p.m. The menu will include wild game such as Elk, Buffalo, Mule deer, Whitetail deer, Wild Hog, Lake Trout, Squirrel, Rabbit, Antelope, Black Bear, Moose, Coon, Beaver, a variety of fish, and the ever popular Coyote:) and that s just a start. You will have a chance to win a wide variety of top of the line guns, archery equipment, camping gear, and fishing packages as well as a special MYS- TERY Prize throughout the evening. Tickets are on sale with only 300 to be sold. Cost is only $40 per person and will include all you can eat wild game, refreshments, and a chance at one of the 5 grand prizes. 6 A MESSAGE FROM OUR NEW FIELD AGENT STEVEN BOOKS / KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS INSURANCE a new General Agent as of November 1st. His name is Ludger Borger, is: 2801 North 7th Street Suite 101 Wausau, WI Office: (715) Ludger.Borger@kofc.org FOR We have his information Since Ludger took his position, my type of training has increased. With his background he brings tons of value to our table. Ludger is from Germany, at age 16 his dad started teaching him on the stock market. With his dads help he invested some money in the market and did well. At age 20 he started his own newspaper business, sold that business at age of 25 to come to the US. Nine years ago decided to move his wife and 7 kids on a business trip to South America. He had an idea to start a timber business, now has grown to acres and 700 investors. Ludger and his wife Sarah decided to move the family back to Wausau. He is the type of person that cannot sit around and has a drive that sometimes pushes me to my limits:) With what he is teaching us about business, trusts, wills, probate, estate, market, and how to use what we have at our finger tips, I am extremely confident that in the years to come we will be changing the brand of the Knights of Columbus. Every meeting I have been on since November 1st the members have been surprised on what we talk about and continue to say I did expect all this. Everybody says they are sick of meeting with us, I ask only for a chance to show the quality of change that has been brought to our training. I know that if given a chance the work will only benefit the members and the future of the councils. I wanted to give you a back ground of our GA. 8 Dear Brother Knights: Finals are over thanks be to God!! I cannot believe how fast this semester went by. This semester was absolutely amazing. All of my classes and finals went very well and is now preparing me for my next semester in Rome. November was an extremely busy month for me. The first weekend in November I had the opportunity to participate in what is called Borromeo Weekend, which involves in an opening mass, Eucharistic procession, 40 hours of perpetual adoration, and many floor devotions. It is really a time of retreat during a weekend of the semester. It comes at the middle of the semester which allows for a spiritual recharging of the batteries. To add on to that weekend, I also participated in what is called Lifeline in St. Paul. Lifeline is a program ran by NET Ministries in St. Paul where they have mass, a speaker, and adoration with around 2,000 youth from the Archdiocese and surrounding area. It was fantastic. My family was able to come up for that event as well. The weekend following, I and five other seminarians had the opportunity to go to the Wisconsin Dells for the La Crosse Immersion Retreat where 300 youth from around the diocese come to grow in relationship with our God and Father. It was one of the best Immersion Retreats that I can remember. I have been going on this retreat for now for seven years and this year, the focus was on identity as a son/daughter of God. This is at the heart of every good spiritual life. Coming to understand that one s identity does not rest in things we like to do or in things that we accomplish or things that we are talented in, but in being loved by God the Father is essential to growth in the spiritual life and in relationship with the father. This has been central to my formation at SJV. In realization to what I have placed in front of God (my intellect, computer science, athletics, perfectionism to name a few), I have been able to allow the Lord to enter into my life all the more and see God s plan for me even clearer. In having this identity as a son of God, it has become easier to pray and to relate with God. Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you (Jer 1:5). The Lord has a plan for every one of his children; it only takes an opening and stretching of the soul to allow for God s hand to guide us. In December, the Holmen Knights of Columbus came up to visit. We all had a fantastic time. The guys really enjoyed it and pray that it can be done again. Everyone loved Joe s stories and I know the guys talking to Fred thoroughly enjoyed their time talking. These connections are what as priests one day, we all pray that we have parishioners like you who support the priesthood and the seminarians like you do. This next semester I will be in Rome and I cannot believe how fast it is coming up. I am getting ready for Rome as we speak, making sure I have everything that I need. It will be the experience of a life time. I thank you for all your prayers and wish you all a Holy Christmas season and a Blessed New Year. iviva Cristo Ray! KNIGHT and FAMILY OF THE MONTH for December 2017 Knight: Sir Gary Dvoracek Is the December Knight for his help setting up the outdoor Nativity Tableau, for again lending his truck for our entry in the Rotary Lights parade, and for the food and children s gifts for the Christmas party. Thank you Gary for your service and generosity! Family: Daniel and Mary Luebke, with Nathan and Averyl are our December KC family. Dan and Mary are active in parish life. Dan helps with KC functions and Mary works with Faith Formation for our youth and is a lector at Sunday Mass, and Nate is an altar server. Thank you Dan and Mary for your time and talent! If milk goes bad if not refrigerated, why does it not go bad inside the cow? Can crop circles be square? Brother Knights, It is hard to believe the new year 2018 is upon us, what really happened to last year?? How well did we do with our resolutions? Instead of making up new ones might I suggest to continue to work on what our Holy Father suggests.: 1. Take care of your Spiritual life, your relationship with God 2. Take care of your family, give them your time, attention and love 3. Take care of your relationship with others, transform your faith into life. 4. Be careful how you speak, purify your tongue of offensive and abusive words 5. Heal wounds of the heart with the oil of forgiveness. 6. Look after your work, doing it with enthusiasm, competence, humility and passion, with a spirit that knows how to thank the Lord. 7. Be careful of envy, lust, hatred and negative feelings 8. Watch out for anger that leads to vengeance, laziness, pointing the fingers at others which leads to pride, and complaining continually which leads to desperation. 9. Take care of our brother and sisters who are weaker, the sick, the elderly, the poor, homeless, the stranger, for we will be judged on this. Happy 2018 May God's blessings be upon you. Basketball, Basketball, Basketball... It is that time of the year to bring your kids to the annual KC Free Throw Contest. In order for this event to be a success we need to find many sharp shooters. Unfortunately, there is an age limitation, so only boy s and girl s ages of 9-14 can participate. Also, to make this event a success again, I will need some help judging and scoring the sharp shooters. NOTE: WIAA has changed their ruling on Girls\Boys participation. This means all girls and boys ages 9-14 can participate without impacting eligibility to play JV, VR, and Varsity high school programs.
