2 A word from the President Spring at last. April proved to be a much better month for getting out on the bike than the last few months have been. We have enjoyed several good rides and times of fellowship. The riding season is just about in full swing and our calendar is getting pretty full with opportunities to get out and Change the World One Heart at a Time by sharing Christ with those we meet. I see more and more bikes out as I travel to and from work. I am looking forward to the next few months as we begin to minister from the bike. Saturday, April 26 we did a chapter ride into East Texas at Burkeville and then north along Toledo Bend and back into Louisiana (check out the Road Captain s Report for more details). One stop was at The French Market in Natchitoches where we got some fuel, drinks, and a snack. While we were there we were approached by a gentleman who asked about the blessing stickers on our bikes. We explained to him what they were and why they were on our bikes. He wanted to know if we could bless his van. I told him we could if we had any stickers but I wasn t sure if we had any (I couldn t remember putting any in the bike). I looked and I did have a pack of stickers. We blessed his van and away he went. That experience reminded me how we need to be ready when God opens the door. That includes having the right stuff for the job. Is your bike ready? Do you have blessing stickers and tracts in your bag? Do you have a Hope for the Highway Bible ready to give? If you need to restock your bike you can check with me at the next meeting. As we begin the 2014 riding season we need to remember why we ride and who we ride for. God has ordained each of us to do a work and it just happens to include riding a bike. So, get your bike ready, your heart ready, and your mind ready and put on your Colors and get to work. It s All About JESUS! David Smith, President Victory Riders meet the 2nd Monday of every month at Rick s Pizza on Oak Street in downtown Jena. Come early, (around 6) to eat and fellowship and we will begin the meeting at 7:00 P.M. We've had some beautiful weather for rides. On April 5 H.O., Paula, David, Jean, Dillon, Rita and I enjoyed breakfast at Buhlow Lake flyin. We were joined by Jimbo, Cody, Robert and Acie of the Jonesville chapter, and Skip and Rachel Laborde from Pollock. We then rode to Pollock for the annual

3 Dogwood Festival where Wyndell and Virginia joined us for bike blessings. David, Dillon, Jimbo, Cody, Robert, Acie, Skip and Rachel participated in the ride on to Highway 71, back to Kingsville and back to Pollock, along with about 30 other motorcyclists. On Sunday afternoon, April 6, David, Jean, H.O., Paula, Donnie, Jeanie, Dillon, Wyndell, Virginia, Norma, Rita and I attended the ordination service for Mike at Bird s Creek Baptist Church. Bikes and Burgers was held at Maw and Paw's in Jena on April 7 where David, Jean, Rita and I enjoyed great food and conversation. On April 12 Rita and I attended the Spirit Riders Bike Blessing. We enjoyed fellowship with fellow CMA members and other motorcyclists. Bikes and Burgers at Sonic in Jena on April 21 was attended by Mike, Dillon, David, Jean, Rita and me, with special guests Wyatt and Grace. We had good food and a good time. On April 26, such a bright and beautiful day, H.O., Paula, David, Jean, Bill, Acie, Rita, Lisa and I had a great ride to Burkeville, Texas. We rode up to Hemphill where we had a picnic lunch at the park, a beautiful place. We then visited the museum and old jail there; it was very interesting. We took breaks along the way, one of them in Natchitoches, where we had snacks, sodas, and coffee. David, Jean, H.O. and Paula had supper at the Panda Restaurant in Winnfield after visiting with a friend at the nursing home and also with Jeanie and Dillon where they were assisting Donnie in jail ministry that day. We had a wonderful day, thank God for our safety. We had 13 members at our Bible study on the 28th, where we studied from 1John, chapter 2. Donnie also spoke with us about the upcoming rally at Arcadia on May 3 rd. On that day for RFS we will ride first to the flyin breakfast before departing for Arcadia. Let's remember those in prayer who have lost loved ones and homes due to tornadoes, also those who have suffered due to other causes. SAFETY TIP: Again, a reminder to stay hydrated and use sunscreen when riding. Do regular maintenance on your bike. It s all about Jesus, James Dedman, Road Captain Chaplain s Corner A Different Kind of Battle We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 Captain Scotty Smiley has served his country with great courage, but he also has had to face great adversity. A U.S. Army Ranger and a combat diver-qualified infantryman, Captain Smiley is also the Army's first active-duty blind officer and its first blind company commander. In April, 2006, Captain Smiley lost both of his eyes when a suicide bomber blew himself up thirty meters away from his vehicle. He has faced this adversity with great faith and courage, an example to anyone dealing with a disability. Since losing his eyesight, he has climbed Mount Rainier, completed a triathlon, skied, skydived, and earned an M.B.A. He was named Soldier of the Year in 2007 and has written his story in a book called Hope Unseen. Captain Smiley is a fantastic model of bravery and courage on the battlefield.

4 As Christians, we, too, are in a battle, but it's a battle of a different kind. It is not a physical battle, but a spiritual one and it is just as real. The Bible tells us that we are "fighting against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12). It would blow our minds if God were to pull back the curtain and enable us to see into the spiritual world the world of God and Satan, the world of angels and demons, the world of heaven and hell. So here is our choice: Either we are going to win or lose in this battle. Either we are going to gain ground or lose ground. Either we are going to advance or retreat. Which will it be? It's a decision we all need to make. It s all about Jesus! H.O. Bring a dish to share and we will enjoy a meal and fellowship at 6, followed by a time of studying God s Word at 7. Recipe Corner - Yum Tea Cakes Submitted by Rita Dedman 1 cup butter 2 cups sugar 3 cups flour, self-rising 4 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla or lemon extract Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla or lemon extract, then gradually add flour. Mix well. Drop by teaspoons on greased and floured cookie sheet, or you may roll out on floured surface and cut with cookie cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet. It also, of course, celebrates Limerick poems. Limericks were popularized by Lear in 1846 in his Book of Nonsense". There once was a lady named Lynn Who was so uncommonly thin, that when she assayed to drink lemonade, she slipped through the straw and fell in! There was a young man of Delcambre, Who was making explosives one day; He dropped his cigar In the gunpowder jar. Now there is NO young man of Delcambre. Don t forget our Food Drive for the LaSalle Council on Aging scheduled for May 10! May 30 th - Water a Flower Day is just too dumb to even comment on!

7 East Texas Ride April 26 Memorial Day, is an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, which honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in Pray for the families of those who gave their lives in military service and also for those who are still POW or MIA. Rolling Thunder parade in Washington, DC, May 26, Remember David, Jean, and James from our chapter and Acie from the Jonesville chapter as we participate in the Run for the Wall on Sunday and Monday, May as the pack makes its way toward DC to join in the Rolling Thunder parade on Sunday, May 25. We will join the pack in Grand Prairie, TX and ride to Monroe on Sunday and on to Meridian, MS on Monday before returning home on Tuesday. Jean in 2013 RFTW.
