Voice of the Victory Riders June 2013 CMA Chapter 1073 Chapter officers Jena, LA President David Smith Vice President Bill Sharp Secretary Jean Smith Treasurer Paula Berry Chaplain H.O. Berry Road Captain James Dedman June 8 June 10 June 17 June 22 June 24 Trace Ride Chapter Meeting Bikes & Burgers Benefit for Riley Roark Chapter Bible Study MBC Hope you can make all or most of these events. Victory Riders website Victory Riders online calendar Victory Riders meet the 2nd Monday of every month at Rick s Pizza on Oak Street in downtown Jena. Come early, (around 6) to eat and fellowship and we will begin the meeting at 7:00 P.M.
A word from the President What a great month we have had. The weather has, for the most part, been pretty good to be on the bike. We have had some good rides and times of fellowship. God just keeps on blessing us with so many opportunities to share His love with those around us. A few months ago Mike mentioned at Bible Study that God was urging him to spend some time visiting those who don t get a lot of visitors in their homes. Following the leadership of the Holy Spirit Mike challenged our chapter to begin visitation. After discussion and prayer we decided to spend some time on our Bikes and Burgers nights and go visit a nursing home before we enjoyed a meal and fellowship. We have been to two nursing homes in Jena, the VA and one in Pollock, and one in Columbia. The time we spent was so precious to both us and those we visited with. While the main focus of CMA is to minister to bikers, sometimes God uses us in a totally different way. I have often said that there are two kinds of people in the world, those who ride bikes and those who wish they could ride a bike. Even for old ladies, some in their 90s, that we visited with, they seemed to have some connection to a bike. It seemed like they all had a story of a husband, son and/or daughter, niece/nephew, or grandchild that has or had a bike. For the most part we have become comfortable ministering to the biker community but sometimes God wants us out of our comfort zone. I believe that God has done that with our chapter and the nursing home visitation that we are doing. If you haven t been able to join us in visiting a nursing home you have missed out on a great blessing. God is so faithful to use us in a mighty way if we will just allow Him. I hope that you make plans to be a part of the work God is doing through the nursing home visits. Remember that we have Bikes and Burgers the first and third Monday of each month. So, gas up your bike and put on your colors and join us for a great time of visiting and fellowship. God will surely bless you as you serve through CMA. It s All About JESUS! 3 Road Captain Report During May we were once again blessed with some great weather for our activities and events! We began with a Run for the Son ride to the Fly-in Breakfast at Buhlow Lake Airport in Pineville on May 4. After breakfast we rode a bit and soon found ourselves on the bank of Cane River Lake in Natchitoches. Those making the ride were H.O. & Paula, David & Jean, Dillon, Dennis, James & Rita, Mike & Pat and Donnie & Jeanie. After walking and enjoying the sights of downtown Natchitoches, the group rode on to Winnfield (without David and Jean who had to leave to go to Wyatt s birthday party) for lunch at The Panda Restaurant. On May 6 David & Jean, Mike & Pat and Rita and I met at the Woods Haven Nursing Home in Pollock to visit with residents there before riding on to B.J. s Pizza for supper and a good visit with each other. Several people rode to the Chapter meeting on May 13 where we had a good crowd and met four visitors, two of whom have since become members! A big welcome to Wyndell and Virginia Peoples from Pollock. On Saturday, May 18, H.O. & Paula and Jean attended the Riverboat Festival in Columbia where they gave out some tracts and information on CMA. Several people were interested in more information and were referred to both our website and the national website. They were also afforded the opportunity to pray with a lady whose family was having some problems. effort to join her and David next year as they go to Grand Prairie, Texas to make the ride to Monroe. Bible Study on May 27 was attended by H.O. & Paula, Donnie & Jeanie, Wyndell & Virginia, Dillon and Rita and I. We continued our study in the book of James. David & Jean missed the May Bible study because they were riding the hills of north central Arkansas with another couple. They report that they had great weather, great roads and a great time! The rode the famous Pig Trail which is a portion of Arkansas highway 23 south of Eureka Springs and also the Arkansas Dragon which is highway 123 that branches off of Scenic Highway 7 near Sand Gap and goes through Mt. Judea. Take care, stay hydrated and keep the shiny side up! It's all about JESUS. James Dedman, Road Captain Jean rode to Monroe on Monday, May 20 to join the Run for the Wall pack as it headed out toward Meridian, Mississippi after a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial on the lawn between Monroe City Hall and the Monroe City Court building. Members of the Delta Cruisers chapter greeted her at their regular spot on an overpass East of Monroe. Jean encourages anyone who has never made this ride to make an
Chaplain s Corner Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, In our lives as we pass through here on Earth we make many choices and mistakes. Some choices are good and some are not so good. The one choice that we made when we accepted the Lord as our Savior was the best that we ever made. He reached down and forgave us and gave us a second chance. He wiped away all our sins. That doesn t mean that we are perfect, for we will never be perfect until we get to be with the Lord. We face many challenges as we walk with the Lord. Sometimes we fail, but He is there to pick us up and put us back on the right path. We can t go around thinking about the past. What s done is done and you can t undo. Only God can change it. Usually when we err is when take our eyes off the Lord and try to do things our way. There is only one way and that is His way. When Peter desired to walk on the water to the Lord he took his eyes of the Lord and started to doubt and started to sink, but he cried out and Jesus reached out and lifted him up and saved him. This is what He does when we start to sink and we cry out; He reaches out and picks us up. We have to forget our ways and start to do the thing the way the Lord would have us to do. Our ways are not the Lord s ways, but the Lord s ways are our ways. We are to look ahead and not back. Keep our prayer line open to the Lord and repent daily, confessing our faults and failures to Him and let Christ lead us. We have not yet obtained the mark until we go to be with Him. Always look ahead at what we may do in His service and be of good cheer for He will never leave us or forsake us He is always as close as we let Him be. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and a true Friend. If we keep Him first in our life He will always be there for us. Give Him praise always. We have begun a study on the book of James at our chapter Bible Study each month. They have been really good with a lot of discussion. If you missed them, try to join us on June 24. Bring your Bible, a desire to grow in the Word and some food! Third Monday of each month. It s all about Jesus! H.O. Berry, Chaplain

June 14 is Flag Day On June 14th, 1885, Bernard J. Cigrand, a 19 year old teacher at Stony Hill School, placed a 10 inch, 38 - star flag in a bottle on his desk then assigned essays on the flag and its significance. This observance commemorated Congress s adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States on June 14, This was also the beginning of Cigrand s long years of fervent and devoted effort to bring about national recognition and observance of Flag Day. The crowning achievement of his life came at age fifty when President Woodrow Wilson, on May 30, 1916, issued a proclamation calling for a nationwide observance of Flag Day. Then in 1949, President Harry Truman signed an Act Of Congress designating the 14th day of June every year as National Flag Day. Properly Display Our Flag Fly your flag proudly on Flag Day and every day!! There is a right way and a wrong way to display the flag. The American flag should be held in the highest of regards. It represents our nation and the many people who gave their lives for our country and our flag. Here are the basics on displaying the American flag: The flag should be raised briskly and lowered slowly and ceremoniously. Ordinarily it should be displayed only between sunrise and sunset. It should be illuminated if displayed at night. The flag of the United States of America is saluted as it is hoisted and lowered. The salute is held until the flag is unsnapped from the halyard or through the last note of music, whichever is the longest. The flag should not be flown in the rain or inclement weather unless the flag is designed for inclement weather use. The American flag is always flown at the top of the pole. Your state flag and other flags fly below it.
The flag is to be flown at half staff in mourning only for designated, principal government leaders and upon presidential or gubernatorial order. The union is always on top. When displayed in print, the stars and blue field are always on the left. Never let your flag touch the ground, never...period. Fold your flag when storing. Don't just stuff it in a drawer or box. There is a proper way to fold it. When your flag is old and has seen better days, it is time to retire it. When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner. Most American Legion Posts regularly conduct a dignified flag burning ceremony, often on Flag Day, June 14th. Many Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, and Girl Scout Troops retire flags regularly as well. Contact your local American Legion Hall or Scout Troop to inquire about the availability of this service. Did you Know? If you like to study flags, then you are a Vexillologist! For more information on Flag Etiquette go to: Education/ Fathers Day June 16 Fathers Day is a day to honor Dad. No, better still, it is a day to enjoy time with Dad and appreciate all he does for you. What Dads really want are healthy, happy and successful kids. And, he wants you to spend a little time with him on Father's Day. Today's life style is busy for both dads and kids. So, a little time with dad on Father's day is just what he wants. A Father is more than the biological paternal source of our being. It is the person who cares and provides for us. It is the man who helps to set the standards, the family values and the example. So add to this group, step fathers and other men who willingly and eagerly accept and cherish the role. Whether biological, adopted or informally, if he is the father figure to you, give him some deserved recognition today and don't hesitate to call him "Dad".
