1 Voice of the Victory Riders April 2014 CMA Chapter 1073 Jena, LA President David Smith Vice President Norma Sharp Secretary Rita Dedman Treasurer Paula Berry Road Captain James Dedman Chaplain H.O. Berry Newsletter Editor Jean Smith Victory Riders Website April 5 Fly-in Breakfast & Dogwood Festival Parade April 6 Ordination for Mike Boyd April 7 & 21 Bikes & Burgers April 14 Chapter Meeting April 20 Easter! April 28 Chapter Bible Study Victory Riders Online Calendar Victory Riders meet the 2nd Monday of every month at Rick s Pizza on Oak Street in downtown Jena. Come early, (around 6) to eat and fellowship and we will begin the meeting at 7:00 P.M.
2 A word from the President I hope the old saying, In like a Lion Out like a Lamb, holds true because March pretty much continued with the bad weather, especially COLD!!! I am so ready for the warmer weather and blue skies so that we can get out and share God s Word on the bike. I am proud of our chapter and the love that was shown to Jimbo and his family during the loss of his dad. Many of you knew Mr. Jimmy from when he, along with Jimbo and Jodee, were members of our chapter (before they helped start the Jonesville chapter). Mr. Jimmy s funeral was set for the same day as our chapter Blessing of the Bikes. Mr. Jimmy had requested that CMA escort him to his final resting place. After prayer and consulting with the chapter leadership we felt it appropriate to postpone the Blessing of the Bikes and attend the funeral and escort for Mr. Jimmy. Since the Blessing of the Bikes is our biggest outreach event within the community the decision was not easy but it was God lead. I am sure that Jimbo and his family know that CMA cares for and ministers to our own as well as to the secular world. We are well into spring which means that good riding weather will be here soon. We have a lot on the calendar for the next few months so take a look at it and plan to attend as much as possible. Proverbs 27:17 says, As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another so the more we have to sharpen, the greater work God can do through us. So get out there and Share the Word and wear your Colors. It s All About JESUS! David Smith, President Well, spring is officially here. Thank God for all the blessings He bestows upon us, including safety during our rides. On March 1st David, Jean, Rita and I enjoyed a large delicious breakfast at Buhlow Lake fly-in. Afterwards we went to Rocky Creek campground to see what we would need for S.O.R. the following weekend, as we were the host chapter. On March 2nd, we gathered at Midway Baptist Church for a sandwich lunch before departing on CMA Day of Prayer. We prayed at churches currently in need of a pastor, Including Goodpine Baptist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Selma Baptist Church, and Antioch Free Methodist Church. We attended Summerville Baptist Church for evening worship services, where we also had prayer earlier in the day. Those attending were David, Jean, Donnie, Jeanie, Dillon, H.O., Paula, Bill, Norma, Wyndell, Virginia, Rita and me. Some of us ate supper at Mitch's in Jena afterwards.
3 On March 3rd Bill, Norma, Wyndell, Virginia, David, Jean, Mike and Pat visited with residents at Haven Nursing Home in Columbia, followed by a meal at Grayson Steak & Seafood. What a blessing we received at Seasons of Refreshing on March 7 9 with such wonderful singing and inspiring messages. John Ogden, Jr. gave details concerning our inner armor. A great and hilarious talent show was presented by some CMA members on Saturday night. Thank you Norma for the great job on a beautiful song. Those who attended were H.O., Paula, Bill, Norma, David, Jean, Donnie, Jeanie, Dillon, Lauren, Wyndell, Virginia, Mike, Rita and me. We had prayer for Pat, who was in a wreck that Friday afternoon, but is now recuperating at home. On March 15th we had a soup ride for RFS through Nebo, Whitehall, Jonesville, Sandy Lake, Aimwell and back to Summerville Fire Station for a delicious lunch of 3 different soups with all the trimmings. The ride and lunch was enjoyed by David, Jean, H.O., Paula, Norma, Anna, Mike, Rita, me and two visitors. We had great fellowship. On March17th Bikes and Burgers was held at the Mexican Restaurant in Olla and enjoyed by H.O., Paula, David, Jean, Rita and me. We were joined by Bill and Norma who came by to visit after attending a revival with their church. The food was great as well as the fellowship. Our condolences to Jimbo Trant and family in the loss of his father. Several of us attended the wake and funeral, and participated in the motorcycle funeral escort. On the 24th we had a delicious meal before our monthly Bible Study. On March 29th we had our Bike Blessing in the parking lot across from Wal-Mart in Jena, along with a rummage sale for RFS. Early morning was cold and windy, but what a beautiful day it turned out to be. We met new motorcyclist friends who were thankful to have their bikes blessed and showed much interest in CMA. Members present were Donnie, Jeanie, Dillon, Bill, Norma, David, Jean, Rita and me. Michael and Audra Hukins, our Area Reps and Kevin and Jannie Laborde from the Spirit Riders joined us for our bike blessing and Acie White from 4 Rivers Freedom Riders chapter came by as well. We later rode to Outlaw's Bar-B-Q in Pineville for a late lunch/early supper. We had a great day. Some of us took a ride down Bayou Rapides to Boyce and Colfax, and then on home. Looking forward to great rides ahead and following God s plan for us. SAFETY TIP: When riding always keep an eye out for other vehicles, in all directions. Be aware of your surroundings. And, as the sun shines bright upon us, remember to apply sunscreen. It s all about Jesus, James Dedman, Road Captain Chaplain s Corner Normally, we think of fear in terms of failure. We tend to become afraid when we experience a major setback and feel inadequate. Or we may be shaken when we've made a big mistake and believe that our judgment is flawed. At such times, we would almost expect fear to strike, right? We find a radically different situation in 1 Kings 18, where Elijah experienced one of the most dramatic triumphs in all of
4 Scripture. Armed with only his unflinching faith in the Lord, he faced down 850 priests of the local false deities. God moved mightily, destroying the idolaters and bringing glory to Himself throughout Israel. It was a fantastic win. Don t forget BIBLE STUDY the 4 th Monday of each month at Midway Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Bring a dish to share and we will enjoy a meal and fellowship at 6, followed by a time of studying God s Word at 7. But right after this confrontation, when the exuberance of his faith should have been at its height, Elijah became scared. In 1 Kings 19, the prophet learned that the evil queen Jezebel had called for his death. Apparently forgetting God's mighty victory just moments before, Elijah ran away. How could this be? Elijah's story reminds us that our failures may not pose the greatest danger to spiritual growth after all; potential for destruction may actually lie hidden within our successes. That's when our confidence is at its peak, which often leads us to turn our eyes away from the Giver of strength and toward our self. Your victory is always in God's hand. Don't be fooled: He may work in, around, or through you to achieve His purpose, but it is always His victory. Have you been distracted by success? Turn your eyes back to the Lord. All praise and glory are His. And fear need not be yours. It s all about Jesus! H.O. Berry, Chaplain Taken from In Touch Ministries Daily Devotion Recipe Corner - Yum CATALINA SALAD 1 lb cooked ground beef 1 lb grated cheddar 1 (15 oz.) can pinto beans, drained 1 large head of lettuce, torn into bitesize pieces 1 can chopped or sliced black olives 1 small onion, chopped 1 (7 oz) pkg plain Fritos 1 bottle Catalina salad dressing Combine all ingredients except chips and dressing. 7 Our RFS ride this year will consist of the following: we will start with a breakfast ride to the Bulow Lake Airport after which we will ride to the Confederates Rally near Arcadia to assist the Minden Chapter with the Bike Games and Bike Blessings. Please be in prayer that God will use our chapter to help accomplish His will. What dummy named these things jet skis instead of boatercycles? How do Keep Off the Grass signs get where they are? The other day I noticed on my can of Raid Ant & Roach Killer that it kills ants and roaches for up to 4 weeks. Do they come back to life after that? A toddler was found chewing on a slug. After the initial surge of disgust the parent said, Well, what does it taste like? Worms, was the reply. For your consideration The greatest evil is not now done in those sordid dens of crime that Dickens loved to paint. It is not done even in concentration camps and labour camps. In those we see its final result. But it is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smoothshaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. From the Preface of The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
