Voice of the Victory Riders August 2013 CMA Chapter 1073 Chapter officers Jena, LA President David Smith Vice President Bill Sharp Secretary Jean Smith Treasurer Paula Berry Chaplain H.O. Berry Road Captain James Dedman August 3 August 5 August 12 August 19 August 26 Fly-in Breakfast & Ride Bikes & Burgers Chapter Meeting Bikes & Burgers Chapter Bible Study Hope you can make all or most of these events. Victory Riders website Victory Riders meet the 2nd Monday of every month at Rick s Pizza on Oak Street in downtown Jena. Come early, (around 6) to eat and fellowship and we will begin the meeting at 7:00 P.M. Victory Riders online calendar
A word from the President If you like hot weather then you should have loved July. There were some pretty hot days, almost too hot to ride (during the day anyway). July did see a continued success in our mission to visit the nursing homes in the area. What a wonderful opportunity God has given us to not only share His word but also His love as we visit with those in the nursing homes. Mark your calendar for the first and third Monday as nursing home visitation and Bikes and Burgers. There have been some leadership changes at the national level of CMA. At the chapter level these changes may not affect us much, but as we move forward and God leads us, I believe He has set in place those who He will guide to effectively complete His goals for CMA. We need to be in prayer for the National Leadership Team and those who God has placed in these new positions. Speaking of Leadership it will soon be time to elect new chapter officers. I want to encourage you to begin to pray about your role in our chapter and how God wants to use you. I am like most people and don t really like change, however when you think about leadership and change it can often lead to new ideas and new opportunities for the chapter. God has a job for every member in our chapter and He wants to use each of us to make a difference in our community and the world. All He expects from us is to be obedient to His calling. I am sure that it will only be a few more weeks until the weather starts to cool some. Now would be a great time to check your bike and make sure you have a supply of tracts and other items to use when you get the opportunity to share Christ. As always, wear your colors. It s All About JESUS! David Smith, President The first Saturday in August is National Mustard Day!
On July 1st Bill, Norma, H.O., Paula, David, Jean, Wendell, Virginia, Rita and I visited with the residents at Wood Haven Nursing Home in Pollock. We enjoyed our time visiting and praying with them. Everyone we visited wanted prayer. It was a delight to be able to talk and pray with them. Afterwards we rode to Dairy Queen in Ball for supper and great fellowship. Most everyone also partook of ice-cream, yum. As we were leaving, one of the customers asked Rita about CMA. She was very interested. Rita explained what CMA is about and our mission. On July 6th Rita and I met with Bill and his nieces and enjoyed breakfast and good conversation with them. On July 13th David, Jean, and Rita and I began our journey to Chama, N.M. for the national CMA Rally. We spent the first night in Texas, the next night in Tucumcari, N.M. on route 66 at a retro motel with neon lights at night; it was really neat. They also had 2 large friendly dogs, Bessie and Boomer. We saw spectacular sights along the way; mountains, waterfalls, wildlife and flowers, just to mention a few. We felt blessed to see the natural beauty God has given us. We enjoyed the rally with good preaching and wonderful song services. It was so uplifting and spiritfilled. Just a reminder for the upcoming ride on August 3rd for breakfast at Buhlow Lake fly-in, followed by a ride to Shreveport for lunch at Jason's Deli. Safety tip: On accessories, make sure the accessory does not obscure any lights, reduce ground clearance and lean angle, limit suspension or steering travel, alter your riding position, or interfere with operating any controls. And again stay hydrated, especially in this heat. God is good all the time. It s all about Jesus, James Dedman, Road Captain The best remedy for those who are unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. By Anne Frank Submitted by Rita Dedman
Chaplain s Corner Matthew 28: And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. As we read these verses we see that we cannot pick and choose which commands of the Lord we will follow. Jesus Christ s last command to the Christian was to go out into the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere. This command, which the Church calls the Great Commission, was not to the eleven remaining disciples, or just for the apostles or for those in present times who may have the gift of evangelism. The command is to every man and woman who confesses Christ as Lord. It is our duty to share Christ with others. That's why the Church, the whole body of Christ showing Him to one another, is so important. The Church exists for no other purpose but to draw men to Christ, to make them little Christs. God became man and paid the Great price for our sins so that we are saved by Grace. By His shedding His blood for us we are to share Him with others. He did not ask us if wanted to, He told us to do it. Then we are commanded to. Because of His love for us we are to show this love to others. We do this by going to the V.A. and nursing homes and hospitals to share Christ with them. Keep up the spirit and never grow weary. It s all about Jesus, H.O. Berry, Chaplain Revive Us Again William P. Mackay Revive us again; Fill each heart with Thy love; May each soul be rekindled With fire from above. Will You not revive us again so that Your people may rejoice in You? Psalm 85:6
Revival Is Personal Greg Laurie Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, LORD, And grant us Your salvation. Psalm 85:6 7 The world needs evangelism, but the church needs revival. God wants to revive the church, to restore it to its original condition. In the book of Acts, we see what that original condition was. The early church was the church that changed the world, the church that turned the world upside down. Is the church of today having as much of an impact as the church of the first century did? I think the answer is clearly no. In Revelation 3:8, God told the last days church of Philadelphia, "For you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name." I believe there could be a comeback of sorts in the church today a revival. If you are Christian, you are a part of the church. What if the whole church were just like you? What if everyone in the church prayed as often as you prayed? Would we be a praying church? What if everyone in the church evangelized as often as you evangelize? Would we be an evangelizing church? What if everyone in the church gave as faithfully from their finances as you give? Would we have a church that is resourced? What if everyone in the church were just like you? the weakness of it. It is easy to point an accusing finger and say, "The church needs to do this...." But here is the question: What about you? It has been said, "Revival is God's finger pointed at me." Revival is personal. You need revival. I need revival. We need revival. Let's pray to that end because it is our nation's only hope. 8 CMA Western National Rally Chama, NM July 16 21, 2013 James, Rita, David and I left Louisiana on Saturday morning, July 13 headed for Pagosa Springs, Colorado where we would stay while we attended the CMA West Rally in Chama, New Mexico. The morning was cool, but that didn t last long, as by the time we left Clarence the sun was shining hot on our backs. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Jason s Deli in Texarkana and a nice stop at the Eiffel Tower in Paris (Texas, that is) before stopping for a cold drink about 4 P.M. At that point the temps had reached the 100 degree mark and I wimped out and got in the air conditioned car with James and Rita while David led us on to Wichita Falls for the night. The following day was pleasant and we enjoyed worshipping with the nice folks at First Baptist Church in Memphis, Texas. After lunch we made a stop at Russell s Truck and Travel Center in Glenrio, NM. It is located on historic Route 66 and they have a terrific classic car and memorabilia museum which offers free admission. We spent Sunday night at the Blue Swallow Motel on Historic Route 66 in downtown Tucumcari, New Mexico. The ambiance was amazing as we looked over the vintage magazines provided in our rooms as we sat in our vintage lawn chairs in front of our neon-lighted walls. Monday proved to be much cooler and a little wet as we rode from New Mexico into southern Colorado. The cooler temps also brought out the wildlife as we saw many, many mule deer, some elk, turkeys and David and James even saw a moose! We arrived at the Wyndham in Pagosa Springs after dark, unpacked and went for supper at Boss Hogg s Hogs Breath Saloon. Tuesday morning we rode down to Chama where we caught a motorcoach which took us up to Antonito, Colorado to the train station where we rode the Cumbres-Toltec Scenic Railroad back to Chama. The train ride was great fun, we took loads of pictures and several videos as the train made its way through the high desert. We could just imagine the robbers jumping onto the roof as
we came out of the tunnel, or a band of renegade Indians appearing on a hilltop, bows held high as they rode down the hill! John Ogden, Sr. opened the rally Tuesday night bringing a great message, as always, and I never tire of Jerry Williams leading praise and worship in his powerful way. No part of any service was disappointing, although I didn t know until Wednesday that I rode a Hondabago! It would be difficult to say which part of the Rally was the best, although I haven t been able to stop singing Jerry s song Send Us to the World for three weeks now. But I do know that I am looking forward to that Welcome Home sign on Iron Mountain in October and I hope you are, too!
