1 Volume 1, Issue 12 December 2015 SCBC NEWSLETTER Second Calvary Baptist Church Columbia, SC Luke 2 : 4-20 NLT 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and the line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you; You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests. 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about. 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in a manger. 17 When they had seen him, the spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

7 SCBC NEWSLETTER Page 7 Ingredients 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened 2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup sugar, plus 2 tablespoons, divided 2 large eggs Streusel Topping: 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup quick cooking oats 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened Apple Pie Cheesecake Bars 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and finely chopped 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg Streusel topping, recipe follows 1/2 cup caramel topping Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. 2. In a medium bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Press evenly into a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking pan lined with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Bake 15 minutes or until lightly browned. 3. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese with 1/2 cup sugar in an electric mixer at medium speed until smooth. Then add eggs, 1 at a time, and vanilla. Stir to combine. Pour over warm crust. 4. In a small bowl, stir together chopped apples, remaining 2 tablespoons sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spoon evenly over cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle evenly with Streusel topping. Bake 30 minutes, or until filling is set. Drizzle with caramel topping. Streusel Topping: In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Recipe adapted from Paula Deen Yield: approximately 3 cups

Saving money on gas by using fuel perks will allow you extra cash for those last minute holiday purchase. Hate shopping during the holidays due to the crowds? Many stores and malls has extended holiday hours! You may avoid some of the holiday crowds by avoiding peak shopping hours! Many stores have awesome deals during this time of year and it s the perfect time to save and stock up! Bath and Body Works for example has deals days where a certain item such as their Signature Lotions, will be on sale for $3. The normal price is $12.50! That s 4 lotions for the price of one! Many of may be a little leery about shopping online. Here s a hint, many online retailers accept gift cards! So instead of using your debit or credit card, use a gift card instead! Shipping fees are often waived or reduced during this time of year as well! Be sure to check with retailer regarding delivery dates to ensure your items arrive on time!
