2 FLAT CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH SERVING AS A COLLECTION CENTER FOR BACKPACKS There is a need for more backpacks for Appalachian children. Last year the Fairburn Baptist Association and partners delivered 600 bags, along with the total of 20,236 from Georgia Baptists. The total goal for this year is 40,000 backpacks. The FBA churches, spearheaded by Flat Creek Baptist Church, are setting a goal of 625 backpacks, filled with the same contents as before (see the suggestion list below). Churches and associations have been encouraged to deal directly with ministries and schools in Appalachia in order to have a more personalized experience. Flat Creek Baptist Church has established a partnership with the Hale Ministry Center, in Appalachia. They will help distribute the backpacks to children in need. Hale Community Ministries is a ministry of the Watauga Association of Baptists, the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and Appalachian Regional Ministries. Established in 1993, the center serves the needs of the people in both Carter and Johnson County in Northeast Tennessee through 3 ministry centers located in Elizabethton and Mountain City, Tennessee. For more information about the ministry of Hale Ministries Center, visit the website at Flat Creek Baptist Church has offered to serve as the collection center for the 625+ backpacks we hope to put together. The dates for dropping the backpacks off at Flat Creek Baptist Church are December 1-5, (M-F), between 10 AM - 3 PM. The church is located at 161 Flat Creek Tr., Fayetteville, and the church phone number is (770) For a complete list of promotional resources and instructions, visit and click on "Resources." You will find this information very helpful in correctly filling and labeling the backpacks, as well as for promotion. If you wish to deliver the backpacks directly to the Hale Ministry Center, please contact Becky Brumit, Director, at (423) Be sure to let us know how many you are delivering directly, so we can keep a complete tally. Let's all do what we can to meet or exceed our goal of 625 backpacks. FBA Fall Golf Classic at Orchard Hills Golf Club Thursday, October 23 at 8:30 AM All ticket sales and excess funds go to FBA Missions
3 MINISTRY NEEDS... If you, or someone you know, would be interested in filling in for a Worship Leader/Minister of Music, we would like to hear from you. We would also like to ask our churches if there is a person within the congregation who has surrendered to the call of Worship Leader/Minister of Music and would like to be considered by other churches to fill in when needed. We are updating our lists so we can offer this information to our churches when there is a need. Contact the FBA by phone, , or by at associationfairb@bellsouth.net. Shadnor First Baptist Church, 6320 Westbrook Avenue, in Union City, is searching for a Minister of Music. If interested please contact Joann Johnston at To submit an upcoming church event or news for publication in the next monthly newsletter, to: associationfairb@bellsouth.net

6 SWAMP PONDERINGS "Death Notice" Sister Old Time Prayer Meeting died recently at the First Neglected Church in Worldly America. Born many years ago in the midst of great revivals and spiritual renewal, she was a strong, healthy child, fed largely on testimony and scriptural holiness. She soon grew into world-wide prominence, and was one of the most influential members of the famous, now sometimes infamous, Church family. She was a great influence for good, gathering the multitudes of mankind to her bosom while sharing the story of Him who wore the seamless garment (John 19:24-25), a story of never-failing interest to all. For the past several years, Sister Prayer Meeting has been failing in health. She has been wasting away gradually, with stiffness of knees, coldness of heart, slackness of participation, weakness of purpose and shortness of will power. In the end, she was but a shadow of her former self. Her last whispered words were inquiries and intercessions concerning the strange absence of her loved ones who had been called away to the marts of trade and places of worldly amusements. Her older brother, Discipleship Training, had preceded her in death only a few years earlier. Experts examining her death include Dr. Works, Dr. Reform, and Dr. Anti-Religion. They have argued and disagreed as to the cause of her illness and death. They had treated her with large doses of organization, socials, contests, drives, and alternative religious education, but, to no avail. A post mortem revealed a deficiency of spiritual manna complicated by lack of fasting, floundering faith, and a series of cold-heart attacks. Some contributing causes were also identified: shameless desertion, nonsupport, and slothful apathy. At the time of her death, there were only a few present. Light sobbing over memories of her past beauty and power could be heard. Carefully selected pall bearers were urged to tenderly bear her remains away, but, they failed to show up. There were no flowers. Instead, gifts were encouraged to be given to the United Way and other charities of ones choice. Her favorite hymns, "Amazing Grace," "Rock of Ages," and "Onward Christian Soldiers," were not sung due to lack of familiarity. Miss Ima Modern Christian did beautifully render "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere Distant," which would have been better received if anyone had any idea where this fancied isle might be. The body now rests in the enchanting cemetery of Bygone Glories. There she awaits the summoning from above which shall bring her, with her bloodwashed garments, into the holy presence of the One and Only God Almighty. In His presence she will be spotless, blameless, and full of glory, just as her Savior. In honor of her passing, the church doors will no longer be open on Wednesday evenings, except on the third Wednesday of each month when the Ladies' Pink Lemonade Society serves refreshments to the members of the men's hardball team, and maybe a few other special event Wednesdays. "And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling (churching) of ourselves together, as is the custom of some, but exhorting one another to do so even more as you see the Day (of Judgment) approaching." (Hebrews 10:24-25) Bro. Ron
