A word from the President Wow, what a wet May. It seemed like it would never stop raining. That is not a good thing when you are on a bike, well unless it is hot and you are looking for a way to cool off. We didn t let the rain stop us though. We had some great rides and opportunities over the last month. Our Run for the Son ride turned out to be a good one. I am sure James will tell you more about it. James, Jean and I, along with Acie from the Jonesville chapter and a new friend from the Jonesville area rode to Dallas to join the Run for the Wall. What a great experience we all had. Jean had made the run from Monroe to Jackson and/or Meridian for the last three years but I have not been able to get off to make it with her. This year things worked out so that I could make the ride so I put out the invitation to others to join us. We left on Saturday morning and rode to Dallas where we joined up with the RFTW group. We left Dallas Sunday morning after a worship service in the Wal-Mart parking lot. As we rode down I-20 headed to Monroe I was surprised at the number of people out on the side of the road and lining the overpasses waving flags as we passed. Monday as we headed to Meridian following our large Police motorcycle escort, I was amazed as we were soon joined by three helicopters and a couple of airplanes. It was quite an air show as we rolled into Jackson for lunch. The airshow continued with flybys of airplanes with their smoke trails filling the sky. I encourage you to make plans to join the RFTW next year if at all possible. I know that we will be there. God gave us an opportunity to bless a couple of bikes as we made our chapter ride to Lorman, Mississippi for the world s best fried chicken and fixins at the Old Country Store. We also had the opportunity to fellowship with some of the members from the Jonesville chapter as well as a few bikers who weren t CMA (good opportunity to show Christ s love through us). To continue to grow as a chapter and as a child of the King we need to be strengthened. Therefore, I want to encourage you to attend as many chapter, state, and national CMA events as possible so that God can strengthen you and others through fellowship, the sharing of ideas and the worship of our Lord and King. Oh, and always wear your colors. It s All About JESUS! David Smith, President

Victory Riders meet the 2nd Monday of every month at Rick s Pizza on Oak Street in downtown Jena. Come early, (around 6) to eat and fellowship and we will begin the meeting at 7:00 P.M. Well, I believe summer weather is upon us. On May 3rd, David, Jean, Dennis, Donnie, Jeanie, Dillon, Bill, Norma and Rita enjoyed breakfast and fellowship at the Buhlow Lake fly-in. Donnie, Jeanie, Dillon, David and Jean rode to the Confederate Rally in Arcadia and participated in bike blessings. On May 6th Bikes and Burgers was held at Jerry's Donut Shop in Vidalia as we joined the Jonesville Chapter for fellowship, great burgers, sandwiches and doughnuts. We had a great time. Those attending were Bill, Norma, David, Jean, Rita and me. On May 17th David, Jean, Acie and I rode to Dallas to join Run For The Wall ride back to Monroe on the 18th, what a great and inspiring ride. David, Jean, and Acie continued on with RFTW to Meridian on the 19th. On May 19th, Wyndell, Virginia, Bill, Norma, and Rita and I met at Dairy Queen in Ball for Bikes and Burgers and some had ice cream also. On the 31st, Mike, Pat, David, Jean, Rita, Lisa and I rode to Natchez, up the Natchez Trace to Lorman, Mississippi for lunch. Some of the Jonesville Chapter joined us, and others joined the ride in Vidalia. We had lunch at the Old Country Store, Mr. D's Diner. We had a delicious buffet of fried chicken, other meats and all the trimmings, and I do mean all the trimmings. Rain was predicted, but God blessed us with beautiful weather, we had only one shower on our ride, and it rained as we had lunch. We rode toward Port Gibson to see the Windsor Ruins, which were spectacular. We made an ice cream stop at Dairy Queen in Natchez. Thank God for a beautiful day and a safe ride. There were 15 bikes and 21 people. Safety Tip: On a ride, remember to stagger bikes, watch your surroundings, and use safety precautions. And, as I always say, stay hydrated. It s all about Jesus, James Dedman, Road Captain Chaplain s Corner The Privilege of Giving He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 2 Corinthians 9:6 I heard the story of a Southern preacher who was speaking to his congregation and said, "We have to crawl before we can walk." The congregation responded in unison, "Let us crawl, Preacher. Let us crawl." Then the preacher said, "We have to walk before we can jog." "We have to walk, Preacher, then. Let us walk," came the reply. The preacher continued, "We have to jog before we can run." "Let us jog, Preacher. Let us jog," they answered. "But before we can run," he told them, "we have to learn how to give." There was a moment of silence, followed by, "Let us crawl, Preacher. Let us crawl."

Any time the topic of finances is brought up, some people get a little uncomfortable. But the Bible speaks a lot about money. Almost half of the parables that Jesus told were about it and one out of every seven verses in the New Testament deals with it. It is our responsibility to give to support the church. It is also our responsibility, as members, to give to CMA; to our local chapter to support our work, to National to support the work of CMA National and International and to Run for the Son to help spread the gospel through CMA and its ministry partners. Yes, it is a responsibility. But it is more than that. It is a privilege as well. It s all about Jesus! Recipe Corner - Yum CINNAMON DROP BISCUITS 2 cups self-rising flour 3 TBSP. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 cup shortening 1 egg 1/2 cup milk Sift dry ingredients into bowl; cut shortening into dry mixture. Add beaten egg and milk. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for approx. 15 minutes. State Leadership State Coordinators: Clayton & Vicki Davis Area Reps: Mike & Audra Hukins Don t forget BIBLE STUDY the 4 th Monday of each month at Midway Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Bring a dish to share and we will enjoy a meal and fellowship at 6, followed by a time of studying God s Word at 7. Regional Evangelist: John Ogden, Jr. State Website: National website:

Berry June 22 Dennis Ford July 3 Dillon Stevenson July 6 In David s column this month he told you some about the Run For The Wall. As he said, this was my fourth year to make to Run, but this year I got to start in Grand Prairie, Texas instead of Monroe. The extra day to spend on the Run was great. As we traveled from Texas into the Shreveport/Bossier area I looked on the overpasses hoping to see some familiar CMA faces. Unfortunately, I didn t. There were probably some there that I just missed. The pack takes a fuel stop in Minden, and as we rode in, we saw CMA all around, offering cold water, bike blessings and conversation. We got to visit with a few

of the Son Seekers during the 45 minutes we were there. As we passed through Ruston I saw some familiar faces on the LA Tech overpass. I waved big, but I don t think anyone could recognize us from above. As we came into West Monroe and Monroe there were more big crowds on the overpasses and the service road by Sam s that leads to the Shriner s Temple where we had supper was lined with folks waving & holding flags. After saying goodbye to James (he had to go back to work Tuesday) we stayed over in Monroe to hit the road again Tuesday morning. First thing Tuesday there is a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial across from the Civic Center. It is always a very moving time for all of the riders. This year was no exception. As we leave Monroe I always look forward to the overpass at Mengel Rd. past Rayville. I know there will always be a big crowd of Delta Cruisers there with lots of flags. I was not disappointed. I intended to get a picture of them, but I guess I was too busy waving, because when I looked through my pictures, it seems I got a good shot of the underside of the overpass! I got a good one last year when I was riding by myself; you would have thought it would be easier from the back seat. I promise to do better next year, Delta Cruisers. David told a good bit about the escorts to Jackson. They really are cool. In Jackson, during lunch they have a great program to honor vets. We are always honored to see real life heroes such as Medal of Honor winners, Ex- POWs, Bataan Death March survivors, Navajo Code Talkers, Tuskegee Airmen, Pearl Harbor survivors and other VIPs who share their stories. Behind the Harley dealership is the Trail of Honor. It began as a pit stop on the Run For The Wall and has evolved into a 3 day event featuring living history demonstrations of every American War. It is staffed by more than 300 living historians and volunteers and features active military displays, cannon firings, Huey helicopters, an Army field hospital and the Viet Nam Traveling Memorial Wall. While walking through the Trail this year David was afforded the opportunity to pray with a young man who was working there. You just never know where God is going to decide to put you to work! After a couple of popsicles we got back on the road to Meridian. From Jackson to Meridian is much like Monroe to Jackson. After supper at the Meridian Ag Center our little group headed home that s a story for another day! Hope you can join us next year!

June Holidays D-Day The landing operations on June 6, 1944 of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II is commonly known as D- Day. The largest seaborne invasion in history, the operation began the invasion of German-occupied western Europe, led to the restoration of the French Republic, and contributed greatly to an Allied victory in the war. June 14 - Flag Day Inspired by patriotic grassroots celebrations that had been going on for years, most organized by teachers and school children, Flag Day, the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777 (when the Continental Congress sanctioned a flag for the brandnew United States of America), was officially established by President Woodrow Wilson in It was observed sporadically until 1949 when President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14 of each year as National Flag Day. Flag Lore: magazine) (from American Profile Few historians really believe that Betsy Ross made the first U.S. flag The current 50-star flag was designed in 1958 by 17 year old Robert Heft for a class project. Special Flags: The 200 year old flag that inspired The Star-Spangled Banner is larger than half a tennis court and is kept in a climate-controlled chamber in the Smithsonian s National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. The Iwo Jima Flag featured in the 1945 Pulitzer Prize-winning photo, the iconic U.S. flag raised by American troops (5 Marines and 1 Navy corpsman) during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II is currently on display at the national Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, VA. No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. It should not be printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. During the ceremony of hoisting or lowering the flag or when the flag is passing in a parade or in review, all persons present except those in uniform should face the flag and stand at attention with the right hand over the heart. Those present in uniform should render the military salute. Father s Day On July 19, 1910, the governor of the U.S. state of Washington proclaimed the nation s first Father s Day. However, it was not until 1972, 58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother s Day official, that, in the middle of a hard-fought presidential re-election campaign, Richard Nixon signed a proclamation making Father s Day a federal holiday at last. Today, economists estimate that Americans spend more than $1 billion each year on Father s Day gifts.

We met several members of the Four Rivers Freedom Riders in Jonesville. First stop as we get on the Natchez Trace. There was quite a crowd waiting for us in Vidalia. Are we there yet? I m hungry! God smiled on us as we had a great ride! The weather, even though it looked threatening a time or two, remained cloudy and cool and we had only one sprinkle while we were riding. Thanks, James for all you do to plan rides for us! Pulling out from Vidalia Wal-Mart.
