3 Our Thanks to You It is the time of year when we all think of our blessings in Jesus Christ and are thankful for His love and provision as well as for one another and things that we often take for granted. Let me just mention a few. On Sunday mornings we pile into our cars and head for Second Baptist Church expecting to see our grounds tended and that the doors will be unlocked, lights and AC will be on, flowers in place, sound will be provided, musicians will praise God with their music, the choir will be in place, Sunday School teachers will be ready to spread the love of God through Bible teaching, bulletins will be available, ushers will perform their duties, and the Pastor will have a message for you that will leave you walking closer to the Lord. Beyond these things meetings have been attended, decisions have been made regarding finances and the Spiritual health of our church. And we are sure there are many more things that we have not mentioned. Many servants hearts have made all of this happen week after week, year after year and we are thankful for each and every one of you for giving your time to Jesus just because you love Him so much. 8 Dee Dee s Corner God s Plans Are Bigger Than Ours By DeeDee Jackman Recently I learned of the passing of a young man that briefly attended my church a few years ago. His 20+ year battle with cancer has ended. Regretfully, I wasn t able to get to know him all that well, other than the brief moments talking with him after church on Sundays. I do, however, remember that his words were always very meaningful, sincere and straight from his heart. He was a very kind and compassionate man and showed a deep concern back when my family was going through a difficult time. This young man witnessed the journey of my late-husband s own battle with cancer and had shared with me what an impact Daryn had made on his view with the disease. He wrote a letter to me after Daryn passed away saying he d be praying for me and the children and that our testimony had given him a new hope. As I write this, I m crying humbling tears at the fact that my dying husband gave him hope, when in fact this man was someone who gave Daryn hope. Time and people are so precious. Please be more aware of the impact that you can have on someone, even when you re not trying to. Oh the beautiful loving exchange we humans are ever so capable of giving each other! Why can t people just wake up and see all the good we should be doing? Why does it take trauma and death to make us truly see and act? Life experiences (good and bad) allow you the opportunity to see things differently and can open your heart to be a more compassionate human being. 8

9 God s Plans Are Bigger Than Ours By DeeDee Jackman Daryn fed and thrived upon God s grace and peace all throughout his illness. Not once did he shake his fist at God in anger. He just rolled with the punches and kept on smiling, no matter what news he got. It s hard to explain, but he had this attitude of complete acceptance combined with the unending will to fight, which he bravely did right unto the end. He used to say, If God wants me on earth, I ll beat this. But if He wants me in heaven, then that s where I ll go. Did the man want to leave behind his entire family and friends? Absolutely not! But he knew that God s plans were bigger than his own and he was in full submission to that fact. Even when things are sad, depressing and scary, hold fast to the promise that we are God s children and that He, as the author of life and death itself, is in complete control whether we understand it or not. Rest in peace David Sansone. Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven Matthew 6:9-10 9

10 In the Mix Becky Rudd Becky has been worshipping with us for past 2-3 years and has been kind enough to share a fall cake recipe for us to enjoy making and eating! FRESH APPLE CAKE Cream together: Sift together: 2 cups sugar 3 cups flour 1 cup oil 1 tsp. baking soda 3 eggs 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. salt Chop 1 cup nuts Dice 3 cups of apples Combine creamed and sifted ingredients, then fold in nuts and apples. Grease and flour bundt shaped pan and bake at 325 degrees until done, about 1 hour 10 minutes. **Batter will be thick** Keep my commands and live. my law as the apple of your eye.
