For the batter: Month Pumpkin Spice Cupcake For the frosting: 2 cups all-purpose flour 8 oz. cream cheese, softened 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 cup butter, softened 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon salt 2-3 cups powered sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Chopped walnuts for garnish 1/2 teaspoon ginger 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg 2 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice 1 cup packed light-brown sugar 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup unsalted butter 4 large eggs, lightly beaten 1 15oz. can pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) 1) Preheat oven to 350. Line cupcake pans with liners. 2) In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and pumpkin pie spice; set aside. 3) In a large bowl using a electric mixer, mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter and eggs. Add dry ingredients and mix until batter is smooth, add pumpkin and mix. 4) Divide batter evenly among cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full. These do not rise a LOT, so, err on the side of more full. 5) Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until tops spring back when touched. Transfer to wire rack to cool. 6) With electric mixer, mix cream cheese and butter together until very smooth. 7) Add vanilla extract and mix, slowly add powder sugar until you reach desired thickness and sweetness. 8) Smooth on top of each cooled cupcake and sprinkle with chopped walnuts. 9) Eat and enjoy!

5 Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. But should it more appropriately be called Thanksgetting? As you think about the holiday, do you spend more time giving or getting? I know that I am guilty of thinking about what I can get rather than what I can give. Will I get a fried turkey? Will I get the cornbread dressing I like? Will I get to watch football? In the tradition I grew up in, we usually took some time to give hanks to God and our family for the good things in our life. And we need time for celebration. We don t necessarily need to go to a homeless shelter on Thanksgiving day to give. Instead, as you and your family think about your Thanksgiving tradition, could you set aside some time this week or month to give to others? We have some great opportunities to give to others in the month of November. The first opportunity will take place on the week of November as different members and Bible studies will host My Hope parties. There are two ways that you can give hope during these parties. First, you can pack a shoebox with Christmas gifts for needy children around the world. This will make a great difference for a child who may not receive anything for Christmas. Second, you can invite a friend to the My Hope party where he or she will hear about the hope they can have in Jesus during a video presented by Billy Graham and two real-life stories about how people found hope in Jesus. The second opportunity will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th at our Second Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Last year, we saw the gospel touch lives through meeting the physical need of hunger and the emotional need of social interaction. This year, we would like you to participate by either cooking an item for the dinner and dropping it off or coming to serve those who will come. You can see more details about this in the newsletter. The third opportunity is a Thanksgiving offering. You will receive a letter about a way of expressing thanks to God through an offering to the church. Perhaps you have received the blessings through your health, finances, job, family or some other blessing that I have not touched upon. Allison and I fell like there are some blessings that we would like to thank God for wit an offering above our regular tithe. If you feel that you would like to do the same, I encourage you to join us in this act of Thanksgiving! Whatever you do this Thanksgiving, do it for the Lord. As the Apostle Paul said, Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for God s glory (1 Corinthians 10:31).
